    I started when I was 35, and have had a lot of fun with it. The steps aren't terribly difficult if you have a little dance experience, rhythm, and a desire to learn. Most importantly, have fun with it!

      @savvy2358 3 года назад +1

      Well, the steps are dependent on your capabilities & level. The steps say David Geaney dances are exponentially more difficult than beginner/intermediate adult steps.
      But, yes, fun is the name of the game! 😁

    I started dancing at nineteen three years ago with the same goal. I've mostly danced on my own and learned from videos like this one. This year, I'm finally going to be able to take classes on a regular enough basis to compete at feiseanna. I'm so glad I started dancing... it's once of the most fulfilling things in my life and it makes for great stress relief at college. Good luck with your Irish dancing journey!

    To answer some of your questions...
    1) The shoes are dance sneakers, or jazz sneakers. For practicing, Irish dancers use the ones with split soles and thick heels and toes, and NOT the ones made to go above the ankle. Most dance stores sell these but some dance shoe companies online also do.
    2) You are never too old to start Irish dancing! There are many adult dance schools, and even many adult competitions. Other schools have all ages. There are competitive schools and noncompetitive as well.

    Me & my Family do a morning warm up every day by mixing this warm up and Core Stability and Cool Down, and it does make a wonderful morning warm up. We hope you can add a video that has them all together. Thanks for your videos. We enjoy them all!

    You're SO right about the stress relief! That's pretty much why I started dancing with my college group in the first place; I'd just transferred schools a month ago, and I knew I would need some kind of group to help make the transition a little more smooth. I definitely plan on staying with them, but I'm hoping to step (hah) into the competitive sphere at some point in the not-too-distant future as well. Good luck to you too! :3

    18???? My god, start whatever you want, and good luck with it! ;) I took ballet when I was 28. I know adult figure skaters who started in their 40's. NEVER think you are too old to do anything. There is no limit, it's non-existent.

    I started six months ago at 19, and I plan on seeing how far I can go. :) And I've heard plenty of stories about people who start in their 20s, even 30s, and do really well. Maybe you and I aren't the youngest beginners out there, but we're definitely not the first adults to start Irish dance. We can both do this. :)

    do I have to be irish to learn this?

    • @xxjustcherryxx9150
      @xxjustcherryxx9150 9 лет назад +3

      Ofcourse not! You don't have to be French to do ballet, you don't have to be Japanese to do judo, you don't have to be Spanish to be good at guitar and so you don't have to be Irish to learn this.

    I love you Jean Butler, but should you not have started in part 1 with the warmup? Should that not be the VERY first thing that you teach anyone?

      @caseyphudson 6 месяцев назад

      As I said, I am not a dancer. I am a carpenter. I am reminded of of how carpenters will walk on a 4 inch board. My teacher, used to joke about certain people being able to turn and wrap their feet around a 2 by 4 to keep their balance. All of this was while they carried lumber and tools and were working very hard.

  • @RLviddy

    Really basic question, but what are those shoes they are wearing in the warmup? I'd google them, but I'm not sure what to call them. Searching hasn't turned up anything resembling what they're wearing.

    I would love to follow this, but being new to this sort of thing; I find it difficult to follow because they are all wearing dark clothes on a dark floor and the camera angles are not good at all for following along. I would had rather seen more close ups of their feet vs. a high angle above their heads.
