    As a Prost fan, 17 year old in 86, i think this was his greatest achievement in my mind from all his titles... not just one great nemesis but 3!!! What a way to win a championship on the last race FAIR AND SQUARE with an inferior car. My greatest regret is when he should have won with Ferrari in 90.... I would have preferred him losing in 89 and winning back in 90... but fate did it otherwise.

    7:52 This almost terminated the contract between Lotus and Renault. At this episode, Lotus didn't knew that the Renault EF4 engine's fuel comsumption was higher than the factory specs said and the calculations to the race strategy was completely wrong. The press blamed Senna. Senna got furious and and opened the team calculations and the specs showing that the engine was burning more gas that it suposed to do. Reanult got pissed. In 1987, Lotus would race with the Honda RA166E engines.

    It was great that Berger - Benetton won Mexico because it left the championship open for another race. Patrick Head should not have called in Piquet. Piquet was a smoother driver and probably had better tires left at that point.

    • @eduardovieira7377
      @eduardovieira7377 10 месяцев назад +1

      I'm a fan of Piquet and in an interview here in Brazil, he said that halfway through the race the tires started to vibrate, that you couldn't see the braking at the end of the straight, so he stopped. Prost said that even though he made the pit stop a little before the halfway point, the changed tires also arrived vibrating at the end of the race. I think that was Mansell's mistake, he had the race in hand. Stefan Johansson, who was in fourth place, was light years behind him. It was about making the pit stop and securing the title. But Mansell is Mansell, if he was as intelligent and capable as Piquet, Prost and Senna, he would have won.

    Hold on bitches….
    Let’s mention that Piquet was the ONLY ONE
    who won his championships with two different teams, three different engines,
    Two different tire manufacturers and against crazy competition from whithin
    Senna lost by points to Prost both in 88 and 89. In 90 he punted Prost off.
    In 91 Mansell lost the Championship, Senna didn’t win it.
    Piquet should’ve been 6 times Champion.
    80, 81, 82, 83, 86, 87.
    And had the Branham not broken down all the time he would’ve won 84 too.
    Look it up, I’m right!

    • @ivanjulian2532
      @ivanjulian2532 2 года назад +16

      Prost won world titles for McLaren and Williams, so that's two different teams. He won World Titles using a Porsche TAG turbo V6, and Honda V10, and a Renault V10. So that's three different engines. He came 2nd in the World Championship on 4 separate occasions. So besides being wrong about Piquet being the ONLY ONE who achieved what you claimed, if we use your logic Prost should have won the World Championship eight times.

      Piquet's title win in 1987 is the most undeserved championship win in F1 history. He didn't beat Mansell in a straight fight once throughout the year and he won only half as many races as Mansell. His three victories that year were all inherited after drivers ahead of him had to retire; Germany after Mansell and Prost retired, Hungary after Mansell retired again and Italy after Senna went off the circuit to avoid Ghinzani. He was consistently out-paced and out-driven by Mansell all season but whenever there was a technical problem with a Williams it was almost always on Mansell's car.

    Prost, consistant, quick and fair on track, sneaky behind the scene
    Piquet, quick and soso on track, most hated driver ever because he was just a piece of shit person, extremely dirty play.
    Senna, possibly quickest of them all, beast on track, no prisoners... fair and honest behind the scene, generally good person.
    Mansell, possibly only one to challenge Senna on pure speed, behind the scene generally good person but lacking a bit of commitment when it came to everything NOT racing
    To me the battle between Senna and Mansell was and has always been the most intense, 2 drivers with pure speed... and also the only two drivers on track that actually showed their respect for one another on and off track... even though they crashed many times together... These two were for me the drivers of the era... and Red 5 has always been my favourite...
    but thats just my opinion :)

      Maybe because he won with an inferior car? Maybe because he has more championship than the others three? (More win too) and maybe because he made more points than senna in BOTH 88 and 89 in the SAME car

    • @tomwells8093
      @tomwells8093 Год назад +1

      @@sz6498 Prost was a great driver but he also used politics and his nationality to get ahead and cheat his way to titles, how much he was apart of these issues is debatable though. Exactly the same thing with Schumacher, exaggerating their greatness beyond what it actually was. Points mean nothing when Senna was ahead of Prost 80% of the time in the races before mechanical issues or retirement. Only a handful of races a year Prost could challenge Senna for a win in McLaren. I've got all races on archive and its very clear.
