The reason that your Xstick button is seemingly doing nothing is likely because your XStick Adj setting is too low. That setting is like the velocity switch you've set up with the fade parameters - the value you set for the Xstick Adj is the velocity at which the module will swap from Xstick to Rimshot when you hit the rim. Since you currently have it set at 25, any cross-stick you play over a velocity of 25 (out of 127) is going to become a rimshot instead. Increase it to the same value that you've set your Sub layer's Fade Point to and it will only swap to a rimshot at 103/127 or above. There is also a volume control for the Xstick in the Other > Volume menu if you need it boosting compared to the rimshot. That said, I don't recall there being a way to swap to a different cross-stick instrument with this method - I know the TD-27 and 50/X let you pick it independently but I think it's just tied to the snare you pick on the 17. So your workaround gives you more customisation there which can be handy! There are multiple manuals for the TD-17 - the Data List manual explains the Xstick Adj setting. There are quite a few other useful explanations in there that aren't in the Owner's Manual, so it's worth downloading it!
Great channel. I'm going to copy the acoustic kit to a user kit and watch all your videos and hopefully get a nice sounding kit. I have the td-17kvx and had to replace one of the crashes. Now they only sell the newer ones, the cy-12c-t. Still trying to get it tuned in.
Could be. On every one of the pre programmed kits it doe nothing on mine. Does it allow you to have both cross stick and rim shot in one sound without selecting and deselecting the cross stick button?
That’s not the way to do it. The Td17 already switches from cross stick to rimshot with velocity when you activate the Xstick button. If it doesn’t, the adjustment is wrong. Xstick adj. is the parameter you need to adjust. If Xstick adj. is too low, you’ll end up with rimshots while trying to do cross sticks. If it’s at the max value, you’ll be unable to get rimshots. And somewhere in between : that’s where you’re gonna find your own personnal sweet spot where it switches from xstick to rimshots. Also adjust rim gain as needed, if xsticks and rimshots seem too quiet or too loud compare to a same force head shot. That’s the proper way to do it.
@@TJB-zt9txfactory reset your module and then just turn the xstick button on. It is already fine from the factory! Low velocity rim hits will sound like crosstick, full force rim will sound like rimshot! If it doesn’t work, you need to adjust "xstick adj." in the pad settings
@@TJB-zt9txi tried the first time as he said and a get the results as you get. But I try again for the second time but i didn't go through until sub as he said. I tried this way and it's working. I pressed the assign button and hit the rim once and change the rim sound into cross stick 8 and exited. Now i got what I want.
Thanks for this video ! I have the same issue with my TD07, I'm going to try this !

Thanks I'll have to check that out. I do like being able to select the cross stick sound I like.

Thanks for that. Do you know if the have a vibra-slap instrument sound in the TD-17 Module?
Yes there is, I actually used it in my ozone cymbal hack ruclips.net/video/qgK0EEq24JE/видео.htmlsi=fOm5JrrsLNUPEqZy

Maybe your td17 doesn’t work properly? My.crossstick button instantly switches the sound on every kit and with out modifications

it also works on my kit that (x-stick) button.. but it is not that loud..
@@Matt-io3uz no
@@ryancayetano no actually it does
@@plazima i mean, yes, it works on any preset kit by just pressing that x-stick but the volume is not that loud..
Anybody try with TD11 ???
I have the same problem... and i use superior drummer 3
I tried it and it work. But i didn't go to sub as he said. I went to assign and hit the rim and changed to cross stick 8 and that's it.

That really doesn't help. Make your own video. I tried what he did and it turned my whole snare into a rim. 🥴

Hello i think your Xstrick Adj is too low. Try rim gain 0.7 head/rim adj 40 Xstick Adj 50.cross stick is on when the box is check.
