  • Autosavant.com's Kevin Gordon reviews one of the products we have used for a few months on the long term test Ford F-150 EcoBoost. The Extend-a-Truck bed extender is a load bar that fits into any Class III receiver hitch that allows users to carry much longer loads in their truck bed or supported on their roof.

I bought one of these to load my 16' Old Town Canoe on TOP of my truck. Well ... I found that going across the top isn't quite as easy as I thought in terms of securing it to the truck with the tonneau in place. I now leave the tonneau cover in place and have the bed extender in the position shown here. Works great!! :) I can now get out to the lakes and rivers in no time. I have secured the canoe with ONE tie down strap which goes from the anchor in the bed, through the eyelets on the bed extender and continuing to the anchor on the other side of the bed. The tonneau cover actually keeps the front down as it is. Hopefully someone finds this helpful. Great product.

Thanks for posting this! I was just checking this product out today at the local Dicks Sporting Goods, during the research of an upcoming fishing kayak purchase. I wasn't sure of the product so I moved on. Your video helps a lot and I think I'm gonna be investing in it for kayak transport, for my '11 Chevy Silverado.

This video made me get the extend a truck ..... BTW you should remove your rod from the yak when transporting cuz a low hanging branch could break them

Ordered one of these to flip upright on my jeep wrangler. Want to carry my 12 foot kayak and keep the soft top on. I am thinking a light bar on the front with some ratchet straps all around?

You really left those rods standing high like that while driving?

Could you fit 2 kayaks with 33" width using the Extend-a-Truck?

How long was the Hobie you put in the truck? I have the Hobie Pro Angler 14 I want to do the same with, and I have the same truck, even the same colour.
