Hey no problem, You need to take out the larvae of the wax Moth out of the hive. I have never noticed any bad problem though in an occupied hive. It happens in stored combs. In that case just take out the wax and rewire with foundation. As for the foul brood, you can shake them. But you have to be like almost paranoid to avoid spreading the disease. This means use different tools even smoker, as you can infect other colony's easily. I made a video on it. Check it out when you have the time. :)
How would you move bees from a chimney that is between brick and boxed wooden frame around the brick. The roof is steep and we have no idea how many or how they housed inside. We joined a bee association and someone suggest to vacuum bees out. Any suggestions?
Hey Chandra, Cool name if I am not mistaken it means moon in Sanskrit. I know what you mean :) It is hard to make a video sometimes that takes in all the different methods. But I should have explained that it was also possible to just place them in a hive. As for the frame of brood it helps the swarm to stick to the new hive and bees just walk right in. A handy thing especially if the bees would have been in an difficult spot. Cheers David.
Well are they causing a problem? Mostly bees flight at a height, where there home is. If there is no queen the bees can be aggressive or they are just very protective. You could get them vacuumed out, it usually is only done as a last resort. Does not do to much harm to the bees if done at the right time. Best done before a honey flow. Make sure when all is done to close all holes or new swarms will get attracted to the old nest and move in. Best get an expert in.
beautiful new hive. my grandpa used a mild honey / sugar water spray which really works great to wet their wings with yummy sticky water. ideal time is early morning when all occupants are gathered in the cluster, cold and sleepy. this is a good tutorial and capturing the waggle dance on film. great idea to put them in a cellar for 7 days. a perfect world is to capture the entire hive all at once, branch, wax, honey and all in a capture box. sort it all out later. love the music.
I do not understand why Get that brood frame,in this case it would be ABC shake the swarm right into the hive. The swarm was so low, anyhow this is how it goes ,different bee masters different ways.- cheers.
To make room to put a brood-frame into this one from a different established hive. The brood-frame will attract the bees and the bees will go into the new home.
Yes you are right Chandra means moon and my middle name is Vidya ----,ok thank you for fast response,I saw your farming ideas very cool,I used farm 5 acres all organic.Nice thank you.I have one question If a hive has been invaded by wax moth -- what to do to prevent the wax moth,I do not use any chemicals.Next question what is american foul brood and to prevent such ---- Your response is much appreciated.tnx
+Submanca It's bee keeping, so many methods ;) Personally, the job there consists, unfold and tape up bottom of cardboard box kept flat-packed in boot of car, place under swarm, sharp jerk to get bees into box, invert box propping the bottom open (sheet is a great idea, stops bees being crushed, and prevents queen hiding in foliage), go to next swarm site, return in the evening and take away, no cutting plants, no faffing about. That was a lot of bees lost from a hive, regular inspection and swarm control would be a better lesson learnt. I would have probably taken steps to re-unite in that particular instance, although re-swarming would be an issue. It's always interesting to see different methods though.
+jackie flowers we are all allergic to bee stings, otherwise the sting would be pointless (pun intended) however if you carry an epipen for bee stings, then you would be wise to be prudent. Otherwise, go visit your local bee keeping group and consult your doctor! +VidSmoFit after 50 years of bee keeping, I still get stung, so not a wise comment to someone starting up who may suffer anaphylactic shock, it's a very sound reason not to keep bees.
Great video - great tips, but also great format - because you're not able to handle much you're forced to vocalise everything, which makes it so much better instructively. But I just can't help myself pointing out … opposite of exodus is eisodus.
one of the best channels on youtube. great work
Fantastic video and what a great way to give a new beekeeper more confidence around her hives.
Thanks Dave, appreciate it ;)
David.

No prob,
The best time to start a hive is from April on wards ;) But don't get any before winter.
David.

Great instructions! I'm going to start a hive soon at least hoping to do so. Is there an ideal time in the year to start a hive? Thanks!

Can I ask the name and artist of the song? I would like to buy it. You said McDermotts but not sure how to find them?
Question, around 4minutes in, you state 'you only need 4 frames'. Why 4? Is it to allow for room to put the swarm in?

Fascinating!
how would i get a swarm into a "flow hive" ?
I thought you were supposed to put a white sheet under the swarm and place the swarm on the white sheet leading or guiding them into the hive?

Nice efforts
@tKuruk Cheers man :)
What IS this music?
I would LOVE to keep bees but I'm allergic so it would be a danger.
+jackie flowers not an excuse

You really need to wear gloves! I have watched at least two of your post and you start out with an injury to your hand.
Yes you are right.
Am doing blacksmithing now and just burned my hand on my future knife :)
