Here's a tip...use shortening under the image instead of water. Just brush it on the back of the image and put it in place. With shortening, you can move the image around if needed (like if an air pocket forms), you can move it around for several minutes before it completely adheres giving you time to correct any mishaps. You cannot do that with water. Water on top of an image will ruin it. Also with shortening, you can just re-knead your fondant after as its reusable. You can also use shortening to attach images to buttercream. Again, it gives you time to move things around before it fully adheres and it sticks completely.

I’ve read that it’s not that it’s a lot of maintenance it’s just if you don’t use it the ink dries up and you’ll have to buy new ink every time.
