What likely happened was that about a year or two in Hyuna wasn't really in love with Dawn anymore but just got comfortable and stayed with him instead of breaking it off because she felt guilty. She probably also accepted his proposal because she believed she loved him and was still guilty. But I think while planning for the wedding she realized her true feelings and finally left. Honestly, this is why I cringed when Dawn left pentagon for Hyuna. A one-sided big sacrifice is romantic in dramas but in real life it just creates an awkward dynamic that would inevitably end up straining the relationship.
