Love your collection, I also collect vintage ornaments, bought a lot of them off eBay from Poland and Germany. I put a tree in every room even bathroom, small tree but it's in there. One of my trees, is all Santa ornaments another Snowmen, the bathroom is Victorian, I LOVE CHRISTMAS.....

When I was growing up we had my grandmother’s ornaments on and under the tree. My father was born in 1909 so these were very old by the time I was born.

Chris Mullan Yes dear sir ! As a Floral Designer I'm trying to come up with a way to keep Christmas up in my home all year without it standing out as Christmassy. Does that make any sense at all ! Haha.

I love your collection. I also collect vintage Christmas however I’m in Scotland U.K. and our Christmas decorations differ a bit (I have a set of 1950s British made bubble lights but these are very rare - no one in the U.K. has ever heard of them but they seem to be very common in the states). It’s interesting seeing how you guys do it over there. The basics are the same though, vintage Christmas is all about nostalgia, cosiness, warmth etc. Your house is magical

I confess, I also am a early to mid century Christmas Hoarder as well, particularly Noma, Mirostar, Paramount, Radko, etc - totes and racks to the ceiling in the basement - its ok, could be into a lot worse - thanks for sharing

OMG, You have alot of nerve talking about my collection. You are one wonderfully sick puppy. Great stuff. Yes My stuff has to stay up all year or I would never see it. I draw great enjoyment from my stuff all year. I walk by an item and remember where and when I got it and smile.

I have been watching your 2018 video and during current times it is comforting. I grew up with some of that Christmas décor and maybe I am biased but the older trends and pieces were far better made and definitely more beautiful in a simplistic way. I have been wanting to decorate for Christmas during the last few weeks, the warm glow of the lights and sparkle always makes our home feel warmer. Thank you for sharing!

Me too! I’m right there with ya. Every time I walk by the Christmas room I think..”forget Halloween decor I’m gonna put the tree up today”.

I am curious, is there some childhood memory or experience that inspires you to collect vintage ornaments? I grew up in the 19#0's and times were just so different. We didn't have much but Christmas was always a cheerful time. As a young child, I would get $20 to go Christmas shopping for my family which was a fair amount of money then, but I could stretch it by shopping at places like Woolworth's, RIP. We would go to a Christmas tree farm and cut down our own tree which always smelled so good! Over the years I was usually the one to decorate the tree since I was the most enthusiastic about it. Decades later that still holds true and I still get a "fresh" tree, usually a Noble Fir, from a tree lot. The scent brings back so many memories from days gone by. I shared your 2018 video with my mother (in her 80s), and she loved it. She still has a couple of similar vintage items today and the bubble lights triggered memories of her aunt that had them *years* ago when my mother was young.
During most of my adult life, we didn't have a big yard or a neighborhood full of kids for trick-or-treating. A few years ago we moved into a house with a good-sized front yard and a few neighborhood kids. We took possession of the house on 10/28, what I didn't know? We bought into a Halloween destination neighborhood, we didn't have much of anything to decorate with at all. I am sure people were disappointed to show up to our house that year since apparently it was previously owned by enthusiastic owners that *loved* to decorate for Halloween. My passion had always been Christmas and decorating was limited to the inside. Well, fast forward, and I work for a solid 3-4 days setting up for Halloween every year and while I love to make people happy I sometimes dread the amount of work it takes, I am not young. 😝 I would go crazy for outdoor Christmas decorating too if Halloween didn't knock it out of me, I still do a little bit it. This year the neighborhood is going dark for Halloween due to COVID and while I feel *really bad* for the families that usually come here it's the right thing to do. We get anywhere from 600, up to 1,000 trick-or-treaters and it's too risky, it was a neighborhood decision. So, long story short, I want to decorate a little extra for Christmas instead.
Sorry for the mini-book, your videos stirred the holiday spirit in me which I really needed right about now. No matter how old I get the excited little kid that loves Christmas will always be a part of me. 🎄

I could watch your videos over and over. You have so many nice pieces. How long have you been collecting? I started collecting as a kid in the 1970"s although the stuff wasnt vintage at the time. My budget is pretty tight, so I don't have a huge collection. Prices on some of this stuff can be steep, but I get lucky and find some bargains sometimes. Thanks again, Garth for sharing your videos!

Doug Grimes...I've been collecting xmas now for about 25 yrs. I inherited a good amount in high school from relatives and went from there. When I got married my budget grew and I was able to buy bigger ticket items I wouldn't have otherwise. My collections large now and since it gets put away every year it kinda overwhelms me a bit. I love it but it's a lot of work. Working on setting it all up as we speak. The problem is I have to put all away again. Ugh. Lots of collectors with large collections keep it out all year long I'm told.
