Strange that he got so big because watching these old debates back, it really is ramblings of a man who has no concept of a final philosophy. He just can't pull his ideas together.
@@roscius6204 There's an old truism that goes "bs baffles brains". I'm sure Peterson has had some value as a professor or clinician in his field, so maybe that helped give an air of credibility, but his public persona was based in bs from the beginning.
In my day we used to call blokes like Peterson a bullsh1tter. Talk fast, put in lot of big words and hope people feel too scared to disagree. I used to think he was a rational thinker but he needs to steer clear of the religious debate because he’s making a fool of himself. Ah, sorry, someone’s making a fool of him. Ke
I don't understand Douglas talking about how "what we have" is so rare for religious reasons if we look at religiosity in the sorts of places he's implying to be so horrific. The most religious places in the world, even the most Christian places in the world if you want to narrow it down so much, are right alongside those where other correlations are shared. The most Christian part of Africa isn't Egypt, Algeria, or Morocco, but the Sub-Saharan countries. The most Christian part of the Americas isn't the US, but Mesoamerica and the Andean states. The most Christian part of Europe isn't Norway or the Netherlands, but Romania and Serbia. The less religious parts of the world aren't the less "orderly" or moral parts, but quite the opposite; importance of religion by country maps snugly onto all the worst statistics, regardless of the religion-some more than others, or in different ways, yet still all of them. Even historically this has been true for centuries. Eastern Europe has been more religious than Western since the Roman Empire(s). The major religions just seem to get so high on having ended lots of worse ones. But the kicker is, they were an improvement for exactly this reason: being more worldly and concerned with the matters of ethics and reason which enabled their own obsolescence. Human development has a beautiful way of doing that. Our very existence is the work of nature enabling conscious improvement on its unconscious flaws; or if you wish, Man showing God how to be good.
I am a fan of Jordan Peterson but my criticism of him is that he is always in the process of showing something and never simply states the conclusion from that process. This leaves you in loose ends.
So Jordan's argument is you can't be an artist without religion? And I thought the giddy feeling i get in my brain of experience symetry, resolve in patterns etc. Makes me do it.
Thanks! And Harris! I hold you and Elizabeth both personally responsible for inviting not just me but the entire public who wish to respectfully attend a temple service. We can do it later.
If you break down what JP says it’s incoherent nonsense, but that’s the whole point. If only JP understands what JP is saying, then only JP is the authority on how to decipher it. It’s a clever scam by a master manipulator.
At this point in time, I question Jordan's desire to be publicly humiliated. I'm sure an expert psychologist would have something interesting to say about him.
The stories were the first attempts to finding reasons and how things happened. We won't be able to forget it for should it's a part of our history. However if we stop growing and progressing we die.
Based on what JP mentioned about 'transcendence,' it seems he believes in realities that exist beyond human comprehension and the physical world. However, I find this perspective to present a false dilemma: it suggests we must choose between a mystical reality based on hunches, intuitions, and personal feelings, or an overly simplistic binary logic that underpins foundationalism. Religious fundamentalism often embodies this foundationalist thinking. Fundamentalists may perceive their worldview as rational because they associate "God" with a vague concept of The Ultimate or The Absolute. Yet, foundationalism is a pseudo-rational philosophy, as it overlooks recent advancements in logic prompted by sciences like Quantum Mechanics. For example, the law of identity becomes problematic when analyzing subatomic particles, whose behaviors contradict this law and can only be understood through modeling rather than classical observation. However, it's crucial not to overly conflate physics and philosophy, as this can lead to the pitfalls of quantum mysticism, as seen in the work of individuals like Deepak Chopra. This distortion of physics often revolves around word games that exploit the ambiguities and correlations between concepts like the collapse of the wave function and the idea that human consciousness 'creates' reality.

A very good discussion
Jordan gets to the point right away
But he does go on about it🎉
Jordan rants incoherently for 3 minutes straight
