- This video (humble as it is) seems so necessary! Fredric March, though earning two Best Actor Academy and two Best Actor Tony Awards, never really received the credit he deserved. Born in Wisconsin in 1897, he was slated to be a banker after earning a degree in economics from University of Wisconsin-Madison. But, commerce’s loss was the public’s gain. Fredric March is said to be one of the finest actors to have ever graced stage and screen - with a career lasting nearly 50 years. He married fellow thespian, Florence Eldridge, and they remained blissfully happy for 48 years (at his death from cancer in 1975). He is wonderfully brilliant on film, and it’s said he was absolutely captivating on stage. I hope this video of “Freddie” brings a little joy. Please enjoy! 😊 And thanks for watching! 😁
Selected Filmography: Paris Bound (1929), Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde (1931), The Eagle and the Hawk (1933), Les Misérables (1935), A Star Is Born (1937), One Foot in Heaven (1941), Adventures of Mark Twain (1944), Best Years of Our Lives (1946), Death of a Salesman (1951), Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954), Inherit the Wind (1960), Seven Days in May (1964), and The Iceman Cometh (1974)

Frederic March is, in my humble opinion, the greatest actor Hollywood ever produced. Thank you for this montage, I hope it spurs others to seek out all his movies.
Oh, @Kiskaloo...thank you so much for such a heart-warming comment! I too think he is brilliant! I tried to create something that would spur others! Let's keep putting that out there. Thanks heaps!
I agree, he is that!
Beautiful montage of an amazingly versatile actor. So many outstanding performances, and always 100% believable.
Thank you SO MUCH, Monica! It means a lot to read such a lovely comment. I too think he's incredibly versatile...and sadly underrated for just that. Please enjoy!
Thank you for this video! I adore Fredric March! Great actor and so damned handsome...
You are most welcome U H! 😊 I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly. Please enjoy.
He was gorgeous 🥰
I didn't realize Fredric March was so athletic! 😮This is cool!
Great observation, JK! Thank you for watching - and glad you enjoyed it!
Wow - this is absolutely wonderful. Like another commenter, I have just in the past year "discovered" Fredric March, and the more I learn, the more I want to know. He was so deeply gifted, and yes - very handsome! There was just something about him...
Thank you so much for this!
Aww, you are so welcome Julie! I had been looking for a video (versus picture) tribute. I am SO happy you enjoyed it. That's how we pull more folks in. I was hoping there was more views by now...but, hopefully people will catch fire. Thank you Julie!
You're evolving, FilmBuff. ;-) This is bloody fantastic. Fredric March is brilliant.
Thanks, Matt! I'm trying! I think Mr March is brilliant too!
I love this! Fredric March was a favorite of both of my parents. I believe they said my grandparents knew him from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. I think he is terrific and so under-rated. I am so happy you included clips from the first film I ever saw him in, Les Miserables. He is brilliant as Jean ValJean. Thank you so much, Film Buff!
Thank you so much, A! This is a GREAT comment! I really appreciate the story! I appreciate the look and the comment.
Absolutely right about Les Miserables. Charles Laughton was also superb as Javert.
Thank you. I have such a crush on this man. I'm trying to watch all his movies.
Ha ha, rociomiranda5684! I hope the little video does him justice! It needs to live up to your crush! Good luck with your film hunt! 🏵
🔥FANTASTIC! 🔥 I'm a bit newer to Fredric March - so this was so fun to watch! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the many movies you contained in this BEAUTIFUL tribute.
WOW! What a lovely comment! Thank you so much Alek! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
I absolutely ADORE this! 💗💗💗 I've been anxiously awaiting a tribute with video clips versus photos. Thank you, thank you, thank you, FilmBuff!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the lovely comment, RUclips User!
Thank you for this video tribute! I recently discovered Fredric March after watching Death Takes a Holiday. His performance turned a film that I thought was alright into a film I couldn’t help thinking about even weeks later. I’ve started to check out books on him from the library, but this video made me want to really watch more of his films!
Awww, THANK YOU SO MUCH, Htatperson Whoop! Your comment makes my day! Good luck on the film hunt! 🤗
This is such a beautiful video! Fredric is one of my favorite actors and it saddens me so, that everyone seems to forget about him when talking about the greatest actors ever, even despite of his two Oscars... Thank you very much for uploading!
AGREED! 😊
Thank you SO MUCH, Paulina! This means a lot. I'm glad so many of us have not forgotten him. Thank you! ☺
This is so heartwarming. A big thank you to whomever made this!
THANK YOU for the lovely comment! I'm glad you liked it. 💗
I love this man. How much I would be willing to do just to meet him.
Agreed! What an awesome soul, and talented gentleman! Thank you for the lovely comment! ☺
Gifted, superb actor. Another Part of the Forest- tour de force.
This is a masterpiece !
This message completely made my day! I wish I had fancy equipment to do it justice...so this makes me even happier to read this, divinefem111! THANK YOU!
Just wanted to add that saw Man on a Tightrope from 1953 and March's performance should not be missed. He is amazing, compelling and heartbreaking in it as is Terry Moore, Gloria Grahame and really everyone in it.
Absolutely, Kathleen! (I do have a mea culpa for forgetting that clip!) I had a clip ready from that amazing performance - and I put it in the wrong folder (with a couple others). 😬 So YES! I completely agree-- thank you for the reminder! 😊
@@filmbuff5524 ❤
Freddie was interesting to watch just taking off his hat. 🙂
Amen to that, Kathleen! Surprising how, with talent, even the smallest gestures have meaning. Well said. 😉
Beautifully done video.
Oh, thank you so much Kathleen! I want to do Fredric March justice. I appreciate the compliment!
Another great one, FilmBuff. I also think Fredric March never got the accolades he should have. What is the clip at 2:31 from? I can't recognize it. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I agree, it seems odd he was not given those accolades outside of the many awards he was nominated for and/or won. The clip at 2:31 is from "Good Dame" - it is a bit harder to find.
@@filmbuff5524 NOW ON YT !
FREDRIC MARCH ... ici , un intéressant montage ...
Merci beaucoup, fanny! Votre compliment est très apprécié! 😃
@@filmbuff5524 un nouveau montage serait apprécié :) Lilian HARVEY ?
@@fannylablanche9952 Ha ha, merci pour la suggestion. 😉
@@filmbuff5524 mais oui ... :)
I just discovered frederic march.. and I am 100% in love with him.. thank you for this! Whats the melody you used?
Good for you, Louvon Brockdorff! There are so many performances to enjoy! Have fun watching them all! 😀
What recording os this song is it? Cant find it anywhere?
If you look in the description (for most RUclips videos) you can always find the music that is used. 😊 For this video it's Epic Orchestra performing Fireflies.
What movie is the clip af 3:39 from?
It's from "One Foot in Heaven" from 1941. It should be rather easy to find, and is frequently on TCM. 🙂
