It's more than that. It's a victory to Eivor sure, but if you know your history, you'd know that these two men would see a period of great change by their very actions. Alfred the Great would see England thrive and bloom, and Eivor would find the Danelaw begin its slow march towards collapse. Eivor's home will not remain forever as he may have hoped, but tragically what he doesn't realize is that his own actions (or inaction) is partly responsible.
*All who came before us are dead, and we are the remainders and now we are going separately on our own paths. And I am sad. All I know is that we will see each other again. In Valhalla, in Odin's Hall. And we will be young again. We will be fierce and proud. We will laugh and sing. The gods will embrace us. And we will be what we were always meant to be. And so this is life, and so is this death. Farewell.* - Bjorn Inorside
This game was amazing. I just got the platinum and I couldn’t be more happier to achieve it for a game that I cherish and adore so much. This track that plays after “defeating” the Grand Maegester is perfect to capture the feeling of triumph and victory after Eivor’s long journey of conquering England and being an important figure in its history. Everything from the soundtrack, combat, characters, main story, side missions, settlement, and modern day story are good because of how tragic and compelling it is for the overall game and story. It’s truly an 8/10 game ⚔️🛡🪓
Aethelflaed, King Alfred’s daughter, became Queen of Mercia and drove the Danes and the Norse out. I keep imagining a DLC that would end with Ravensthorpe burning as the Mercians advance and this song playing over the deaths of the Raven Clan and their allies. Sad, yeah, but damn it’d be a hell of ending. War for war. Destruction for destruction.
@@FriedspaghettiIt would be perfect for Assassin's Creed. The games always felt like they had a tragic bent to them. No matter what, every hero's story ends in death after all. And change is so fundamental to the series. Often violent ones.
Its funny what you said. Because Valka tried to warn Eivor before he/she leaves dor the final alliance, that the settlement will not be the same when he return. I imagine that it means something like that
People don't realize why this song makes so much sense with the ending. The order of the ancient purpose was to use ancient isu artifacts to guide humanity and recreate the society of the ancient Isu. They saw the isu as superiors and deities. Odin and the rest of his sages and reincarnated, but died ultimately not achieving their goal of living beyong. Odin lost to Eivor. Halfdan dies never remembering he was Thor. Same with Faravid and Sif. Sigurd remembered pieces of Tyr, same with Svala. Heimdall was born in the wrong time. With the destruction of the order of the ancients, the Isu's legacy of being the 'Gods' died out. So did their reincarnation. The time of them as Gods and their influence on earth was over. The templars goals are different then the ancients. This song is effectively the swan song for Isu legacy and veneration. This is where the veneration of the Isu ends, and the templars begin.
Darn, that's a sick interpretation. This game's narrative is very deep, and it's incredibly rewarding when you understand the themes it explores if you pay attention.
This is one of the best views I've seen about an Assassin's Creed story, especially given the fact it took some thought. I fully agree, and I am so happy there are still a few willing to give the game a fair chance
Ragnarokkr is literally old Norse for “twilight of the gods”. Wagner made operas about this and the ring cycle. There is nothing new here. This song is describing the events that occur during ragnarok. That’s it. The gods died exactly how they do during ragnarokkr in the poetic and Prose Edda more or less with an alien spin to it. Lif and his lover are the only two that survived. The Aesir died trying to prevent the world from succumbing to complete chaos. They succeeded and the world was reborn. Some of their influences are present in the game but the intent was not to become human, exact opposite actually. The goal was to preserve order, they all knew they would die. In the game the order of the ancients ends and the cycle has completed itself. A new cycle is occurring with a new “ragnarok” that Desmond is trying to prevent. Loki had a child that destroyed Odin. Seems the the plot is set to repeat itself in some manner with the new game supposedly being about baisir
The wolf will break his bonds. The serpent will uncoil. The nail-ship will launch. The giants will pour out of the Outer Yard. The rooster will sound. Now is coming the great winter and the great war. The wind age, the wolf age, the sword age, the axe age, the age of shattered shields. The era of broken bonds. Our world will die, and be reborn. Humanity will fall, and rise again. Destroyed and remade in the forge of ice and fire.
Many people hate this game but they never actually finsihed it and those who fully finished it will understand the true feeling of accomplishment after listening to this, for me this game is a solid 8.5/10 minus 1.5 points for detection mechanics and poor animation in cutscenes but other than that it's a solid game definitely recommended
