Of all the fantastic Irish musicians of the 70’s, Planxty was what I most remember. The Chieftains were gods. I mourn the deaths of Paddy, Dereck and , especially, Sean Keane, but Planxty was magical. Rest in peace Liam og O Flynn.

Absolutely. Im listening to many types of music. But I will certainly never forget the day i had the absolute privilege to experience Irvine Live and i wish i could have seen the whole of planxty. And i always find myself coming back to Planxty and just feel happy

I remember repeatedly listening to a planxty album as a very small boy, im thinking mud 70's and being taken away in the songs, sweet Thames flow softly raggle taggle gypsy, memorising the words, playing a little theatre in my head, funny, i can't remember what I did 2 days ago but I remember the words of those songs, ❤️❤️

As a lifelong Flogging Molly fan, as I get older, I'm really getting into more traditional acoustic tunes. Until this video, I'd never even heard of Planxty. This is absolutely amazing. Hauntingly beautiful. Incredible tin whistle, and as a singer, I wish I had one-tenth that voice. With ancestors from Limerick and Cork, I feel this music in my veins.

Everytime I hear the beginning of this song and Liam's pure fantastic whistle, I almost cry. Both of joy and sadness. Words are not enough to express how beautiful this song is.

I love how they delayed it a wee bit for this performance. It's complete ecstasy because you've been waiting, waiting, & waiting! Beautiful. I have no words either ~ none that could do it justice, but I know that the feeling it stirs within takes me to a warmer, kinder place where the wolves cannot get in (-:

Also, even if all the other instruments are out of this world and Christy's voice just as good, it is the Tin whistle that kind of makes this song what it is. Best version ever.

As I Roved Out from The Well Below The Valley. And it was always Christy Moore's voice that won me over somehow. I think most seem to prefer the Andy Irvine song (which is also gorgeous) if you go by view counts on YT. Fair enough (-: I remember seeing a video of Christy Moore and Sinead singing a song together here on YT (you'll all know it). You could see that she had so much respect for him. It's enchanting. This was my absolute favourite from The Well Below The Valley. 14 dislikes? You'd have to have a heart of stone to dislike this performance. I swear the man has the most warm & soothing voice that I've ever heard! Thanks for uploading this so many years ago (-:

To those complaining about the song name: As many Irish (and Celtic, and American) trad songs and tunes, this has multiple names. And conversely, often multiple tunes or songs go by the same name. 'History' was a bit messy before the internet and the printing press.
To complicate things even further, many (modern) artists will write new melodies and arrangements for old songs, or combine an old song with a new melody, to create entirely new works. Look up 'Love Henry' and listen to a few different versions. Definitely listen to Jolie Holland's version, which is absolutely haunting. Then listen to 'Henry Lee' by Nick Cave, and 'The False Lady' by John Doyle and Karan Casey. Cool, no?
Personally I knew this song as 'Who Are You?'. (Actually, many artists who played it called it that). But who cares?
It's actually quite fascinating when you get into it a bit. So much richness, so much mileage, out of such old creations.
