I firmly believe in the Marshmallow Test. I was also an environmentalist so I took public transport for as long as I could. I bought my first car at 57 but even then I bought a used vehicle in cash. I still miss riding public transport from time to time because that's where I see and experience local culture
Brand new car is only brand new on the first day. On the 2nd day used car na din yan. If you want peace of mind on used car, there are many CPOs Certified pre owned and carry warranty just like new cars. Cars are never an investment because they depreciate in value
Definitely prioritize a residence over a car on first major purchase. Many newcomers to Canada, however, go for the shiny new car so they can show their relatives in the Philippines how successful they are in Canada.
Let's not put into bad light our Kababayans who purchased a car over a home as their first choice. Maybe may nabili silang used car under finance tapos unrepairable or too costly to repair that forced them to buy a car that would save them minutes since okay pa sila sa narerent nila. We really don't know the struggles of each and everyone, but this is a good advice to our fellow Kababayans. Car brand or model won't matter in the long run, what matters here is as long as it runs, it's good to go!
@@justinmiguelco2474Your comment doesn't make sense. Until you see the long financing periods and huge interest payments they're paying on a fast depreciating car then you'll understand my comment. I never said people can't buy cars. Just don't be stupid and financially reckless about it

Based on me and my wife's experience, I totally agree na buying a new car that you cannot afford (that is, cannot pay on cash) is a very bad financial decision It's a depreciating tangible asset that will not last forever. When we get married we decided to pay off our car loan balance and sobrang sarap sa pakiramdan na we have no car payments in the world and we no longer have to pay our bank to make them richer. Because of that we are able to use that money to either invest for our retirement or spend for the things that we love to do like traveling.
