- Here is a brief introduction of my 3D printed battery pack that attaches to the back of the Lab599 Discovery TX-500. Sorry for the level of zoom. My recorded format and rendered format are not in sync... I intend to sell the next iteration of this pack and do a full build video in the future.
I finally got my TX-500 and your covers and screw caps that I bought months ago fit great I just used a little velcro on the top and bottom sides and stuck across the covers to make them hold into place. Bravo!! I'm looking forward to this battery case becoming available.
Hello. Finally got my TX 500 and already had ordered your cover. All fit great and can't wait for you to put the battery pack into sale. Thanks for your effort. Great Radio and your covers fit amazing.
Thank you for the support through purchasing my products.
This is the addition that the transceiver lacked so much. Excellent report, colleague!
Looks very nice... would love to see it from the inside. Keep your accessories coming. Thanks for sharing
Yep, I plan to show the inside in detail in the next build video.
Received my battery pack yesterday!
Great pack! Highly recommended
This is wonderful. Innovators like you are the best. Hope your sales will be very successful. Mark K3DEX
I just found out about this radio last night. I’m not on Twitter so I’d like to know if the Lab599 battery pack is a similar no wire design like yours. I believe that your covers are available on Etsy .... same for your battery pack in the future? Thx. Mark
Etsy is my sales platform. You can Google Lab599 Twitter to see the pictures and posts. You do not have to be a member.
An awesome project, well done OM. Sadly I do not have a 3D printer so homebrewing this is out of the question. I think shipping costs to the UK could be prohibitive, otherwise I would be knocking your door down for one of these. Also as Yaesu have finally announced the plan to stop making the FT-818ND there may be a rise in demand of other internal battery QRP rigs. In saying that, if the original FT-817 is anything to go by the 818 will last for ever hihi. Although, the TX-500 is still my QRP rig of choice for POTA and tent operation.
Nice project and well done. Being able to charge while using the radio is a fairly important feature to support. If you can find a BMS that supports this, I think it would make for a better solution.
Just got my 599 this morning
This is very cool nice job! I will probably either build one of these or buy one from you if I end up getting the tx-500.
Nice job, well done. Why not 6 each 18650's, too thick?
It would be nice if there was room left over for a speaker since I think the radio does not have one?
Barry, KU3X/QRP
Thickness was the deciding factor. 18650's add a lot of bulk although they seem to be a crowd favorite. I prefer the less is more approach. A speaker would be nice. Would have to figure out how to wire it into one of the connectors.
With the batteries how much does the rig now weigh? 73, Bob WK2Y
31.18 oz (884g) body with battery pack. Compared to 19.51 oz (553g) body only.
Anyone know where I can buy a PA-500 for this radio?
So are you going to sell these or did you give up?
Awsome! how hard is it to source the magnetic connectors?
Not hard from Ali Express. Just have to wait a few weeks with standard shipping. Still trying to locate a US source. www.aliexpress.com/item/33049945641.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4d5QZDwI
Where did you get the stand?
Brilliant job. Please get in touch with me when you have this together as a project. I'd love to plug it on QRPer (in fact, I'll share this video on QRPer very soon). Thomas (K4SWL)
Thank you. I will get in touch with you this week. The project got delayed with a case optimization but I have it complete now and will be finishing units 1 and 2 this weekend.
@@brewer3ddesign757 excellent! Feel free to email me at k4swl [at] QRPer.com.
Why are you concerned about charging while in use?
I didn't include any overvoltage protect besides the BMS itself. I'm not too keen on fancy circuits either. So the intent of this pack was to be an attached battery with no frills.
Bro...awsome keep at it this diy build will sell 7 3
Name from the magnetic connection?
Here is the link from AliExpress. I have not found a source in the US yet. www.aliexpress.com/item/33049945641.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4d5QZDwI
were can we buy
Only diy, sorry :(
Too bad it can’t charge and power the radio at the same time. You should build in buck / boost
It could probably be done in a later revision. My goal was to keep this one simple and small as possible. I should be releasing the final iteration soon and taking orders.
I would love to get the stl files if you have them. I can print additional copies for you if you need some, I'll send them for free if the postage isn't too high. I have a Prusa MK3S and an Anycubic Predator that both make some nice prints. I have prusa ASA filament, which is more UV resistant than ABS and better for outdoor use. KI4CJJ
please make and sell on etsy!
