I’m almost 16 and have and have been making cold process soap since I was 9 (with my mom) and safety was literally the first thing we went over. It shocks me what I see others do online 🫣 Thank you for speaking out🫶🏼 Love you and love this fun soap!😍
As a chemist, I appreciate the good safety practice you insist on. And please, for the love of all that is good, use goggles/ eye protection when working with hydroxides. Having taught undergrad lab courses at the university, we have had hydroxide solution splash and even melt a plastic pitcher once due to the strong exothermic reaction when e.g. sodium hydroxide is disolved in water. If that stuff gets into your eyes, it may take your eyesight if not treated properly and swiftly. I once has to basicly drag a collegue to an eye wash and it is not fun when you are wrinsing and wrinsing and praying that you got there in time.
As someone who sat at an eyewash station for half an hour please wear safety goggles!! Ps I was wearing protective gear, I was knocked over in chem lab, glasses came off a little and I got a few drops on my face. Was 30 min excessive- maybe but prof said better safe than sorry
Fellow chemist here, so much this!! Even with PPE accidents can happen, and I'm a ~great example~ Storytime: I was in full PPE - lab coat, gloves, safety goggles, fume-hood, etc... Pouring a solvent into a graduated cylinder. I went to get eye level to the meniscus to read it when I nearly knocked the grad cylinder over. I stabilized it a little too abruptly, which caused some of the solvent to splash out. SOMEHOW, by some random chance, the splashed solvent went OVER the top of my safety goggles and right into my eye. I wasn't even that close to it! My eye is totally fine by the way, it was just a drop and eyewash stations are very good at their jobs. Learned two things that day: 1) Eyewashes are REALLY freaking cold and 2) HR does not like when an incident report doesn't have a good 'this is how we can prevent this in the future' action item. Legitimately just sheer random chance. (For those curious: The solvent was 1:1:1 acetone:pet-ether:DCM. Could have been much worse, luckily it was only a drop)
TBH, watching Katie's videos when I was wondering about taking up soap making as a hobby convinced me that I did not have the mental or physical space to take that on right now. I would not be able to keep children or cats away from the kitchen and the kids behave unsafely even when my usual cooking and projects are taking place. I don't have confidence in my ability to secure the soap dishes from the food dishes. So when I want to make soap, I do melt and pour. It's not worth the risk to me.
I majored in chem, and my bf knows that if I tell him to stay upstairs, he better stay upstairs (the cat has arthritis, so she doesn't come downstairs). If he comes down anyway and sees me with safety glasses and a mask on, he knows I still have my dyes out, so the kitchen is off limits. I usually have some metal going in my ears, so I don't notice him shouting from the stairs when it'll be safe 😂
I can also back this up, ppe is super important, as well as proper storage of materials and a clean/open environment. I don't work in the lab anymore but seen way too many accidents and near misses. Especially chemical burns on wrists from not having gloves and sleeves match up. I even had a serious allergic reaction to 14 M ammonium hydroxide, touched the exterior of a bottle that had drips. I always appreciate when safety is talked about in hobby/craft videos even if its not so entertaining.
As nurse who has worked in an specialist eye emergency room thanks for highlighting the need for eye protection. Caustic burns to the eyes are really nasty and even a small burn can cause long term problems.
Even just reading the phrase "burns to the eye" makes me feel queasy! The worst injury of my life was 2nd degree burns (scalds but you know) on my thigh and crotch after an old hot water bottle burst. It was... awful. But thankfully there was no lasting damage. But a burn to the eye!?! That's my nightmare.
I love how protective you are about safety with chemicals! My great grandmother lost an eye from lye and my family has always been super cautious because of it!
I love the soap but the commercial is definitely the highlight. You and Caleb should definitely do more skits if you’re able to. Both of you looked like you were having fun and it was incredibly endearing and entertaining to watch!
It's funny you mention safety today. I watched a soaping vid earlier today, and their small child who was face-high to the counter, was right there where raw soap was being whipped up. I cringed and said out loud to no one....get that child out of there! Thanks for all you share. I have learned much from you. God bless.
Tallow soap really isn't much different. I render the fat down from local ranchers and use that tallow in almost all of my soaps (except vegan soaps). It reacts similar to Shea Butter in my soap as one of the fats. I still need to make a 100% tallow soap but again, the process isn't much different. Added: but I agree, watching Katie make a tallow soap and give info on the process would be very entertaining as all of her videos tend to be.
I think the only difference (or rather the extra step) is purifying the tallow if you are rendering your own fat. IIRC, this is done by melting down your tallow in a large pot with mostly water, like 70% water 30% tallow and letting it simmer for a bit. The impurities/leftover meat will separate from the tallow and mix with the water. Cool it in the fridge to harden the tallow and scoop out the solidified fat. Repeat as needed then proceed with the usual process of making cold-process soap.
@@hyldrklein451 yes, the purification process is a bit time consuming and can honestly make your house/workshop smell like tallow for the whole process - it usually takes me the initial cooking down plus 2 cycles of purifying, 3 total cooks(I use a crockpot). This makes it odorless and pure white. I'll also add salt to help all the impurities sink to the bottom. I scrape the part with crumbly bits and use that for cooking eggs, the clean is saved for soap. I do store it in the fridge because it's much easier to handle when firm for weighing it all out. There's a few great tutorials on this process online, I haven't really found a good video on the entire process, so Katie providing one for the inexperienced would be excellent 👍
@@Abutado Agreed. I'd love to see her take on the process, considering thats not the norm for her. A professional's take on a different process, if you will.
Katie thank you so much for always speaking up! You know it is the right thing, and I admire your adherence to your personal compass. You set such a good example to the community and all of the information you so freely share benefit us all! I know you hope we see your good intentions, and we surely do. Almost every time I watch UV resin pours I cringe because /they're never wearing UV-blocking glasses/ so I feel your pain. I just want to reach through the screen and protect their eyes. I appreciate you always making sure we're safe.
I’m delighted that I clocked your polish as Holo Taco! It was a perfect choice both for your glittery shadow and for the soap. Honestly, there’s something super comforting to me about watching soap making, wood turning and other crafts. I enjoy seeing the same process repeated, and being able to eventually guess what comes next. I also love watching the art and design that goes into it.
I think a rose gold/brown/bronze mix of glitter would be a really good fall mix! I definitely think this makes perfect Easter soap! Also Love the ad! 😁
We watch because you are such a kind, lively & lovely person, Katie. It’s like spending time with a friend & in such uncertain times, watching the slow, predictable process gives us a sense of normalcy. Your videos are joyful & positive. A medication against the negative & the worries of the times. Thank you, Katie 😊😊😊
Katie, thanks so much for talking about safety and PPE. I used to teach soapmaking classes back in the day (before RUclips), and was lucky enough to have studied ChemE as an undergrad, so I understood more about the potential issues than most at the time, and I was shocked at the fact that safety equipment and adequate ventilation weren't always the default at places that had hired me. The fact that you demonstrate the use of that equipment and safe practices is wonderful, but explaining in words may call people's attention to things they might not have noticed while swooning at the beauty of your designs. On a completely different topic, I made a fun soap that some folks might like to try. It was coconut based. I used coconut oil and coconut milk, but I also burned the husks and let water leach through the ashes as an alternative to lye water. I probably won't do it again, and I ended up adding salt to harden the soap, but it was a great experiment!
Why am I still watching after so long you ask? Well, there's something special about your passion for our safety and soapmaking, as well as your attitude towards life, and all your stories. I'm just a small follower, but your happiness really helps me be happy about life too. Thank you a lot for that 💕
omg that ad I love it 🤣 I think any sort of rose gold/pink gold glitters would be gorgeous, maybe paired with a pale blue or mint green or yellow gold soap
thank you so much for encouraging people to make soap AND to use proper PPE. it is so so necessary, and terrifying when people just skip it altogether. just because something bad hasn't happened to you YET doesn't mean it can't happen!
My favourite colour is grey and I know that in glitter form that's usually silver but I'd love to see a glitter that was a darker, gunmetal colour but still sparkly of course!
It is half past midnight and i am up folding nappies and rewatching Royalty Soaps videos. You are flippin wonderful Katie. Also, as a chemist, the emphasis on the safety of soap making is phenomenal, thank you. I also see all the kitchen soap videos and cringe so hard every time. Keep being wonderful. Thanks for sharing your soapy goodness and you wholesomely happy vibes, Katie! I would love to see some dark violett, deep Blue or black glitter on a soap. And thanks for advocating rightfully for certain levels of safety and safety gear in soapmaking!
Thank you for all your positivity, even when giving safety reminders💛 QOTD: I'd love to see a dark midnight blue soap with streaks of holo or gold glitter marbling through the center and colourful metallic star embeds on the top (a field of stars, not a high top)
We watch you Miss Katie because you bring light and love to this sometimes dreary world. You make us smile, laugh, and heck you even educate us. Thank you for all that you do for the Royal Court. ❤
Omg I bought the glitterati soap, I freaking loved it so much 😍 purple glitter soap! Purple glitter, purple base, purple accent, purple frosting, purple embeds, purple label.
Thank you so much for talking about safety in all the crafts you do! It is not something to overlook, thank you for using your platform to spread valuable information
Mauve Majesty and Dragon's Delight are gorgeous! I think it would be neat to see a soap centered around one of those. Also, thank you for making this video! PPE is so important and recommended for a reason! I for one, didn't know that soap could burn until I started watching you.
"How can people watch me do the same thing over and over again?" It's your personality. You're fun to listen to. Honestly, you have creative ideas, and I love hearing your voice. I don't mention names, but there's some other channels that I follow that I watch, and I skip the parts where they talk. They are not interesting like you are.
I love glitter! The good glitter has so many lovely mixes. I'd love to see some pale glitter, whites and pastel greens would be lovely. Maybe the SeaQuins mix for a seafoam theme? The Cake mix is super pretty too! Thank you for the video, I enjoyed the pretty colours and lots of glitter! 😊✨
Since you did your safety video I always look for your sleeves when you start mixing lye. It’s so subconscious now but I always notice your sleeve and how awesome they are. And protective. Can’t forget protective.
Thank you so much for not doing the spin of the final soap, I really appreciated that, I finally didn’t have to fast forward the few seconds to prevent myself from getting too dizzy. Thank you, thank you, thank you 💖💖🥰😊
I completely agree with all the homesteaders... its really frustrating to see and I've tried commenting in an understanding but concerned way bit unfortunately have been met with defensiveness. I just don't want them to be blind or to get hurt, it's really important.
Truthfully, I LOVE watching you make soap, and I am excited every time there is a new video on your channel. I just... love watching crafty videos, I suppose, haha.
Even your commercials are fun to watch! Thanks Katie & Kaleb! My glitter color choices are aqua and lavender. I know it sounds weird, but I love it. I grew up near Niagara Falls, and the aqua color of the water just as it goes over the brink of the falls is amazing!
I love that you are so supportive of your soap making community 💗 while also trying to teach proper protocol. You are a really amazing person, and I appreciate that about you, katie. You really helped me through the hardest part of my life with your kindness, wishing you all the best in this world!
Goggles with side protection is a must. My oldest worked in the physical plant at college and was wearing her safety glasses while cleaning something and the cleaning chemicals splashed behind the safety glasses and got in her eye. Luckily they had an eye wash station close by and she used it and was then rushed to the local hospital for further treatment and a narcotic pain reliever that she definitely needed for at least a week. She has fully recovered but it could have been a lot worse. Needless to say they updated their safety protocols to include goggles with full side protection.
I would love to see you make a soap based off of the Aunt Daisy glitter, especially if the soap itself had a nice light/pastel yellow in it. Not only would it be perfect for spring but you could make a great flower or sunrise themed soap. Also please keep the voice overs forever. It's not a royalty soap video without you.
Hi Katie! You wondered why everyone keeps watching these .. I can't speak for everybody, but I enjoy sharing time with you. You are genuine in your videos, which just makes people want to be around you,. Thank you for sharing yourself with us!
Thankyou once again for an amazing video. Love the safety tips, so very important! if just one person listens, you have saved them. And yes, I would love to see tallow soap made in a safe environment.
these soaps are probably my favourite you have made since i started watching your videos a few years ago. I love the swirl color mix and the subtle glitter!
I would definitely watch a beef tallow batch video!!! There's an adorable lady on tiktok who goes through the whole process of rendering the fat from the meat she gets from her local butcher and I absolutely love it!!! 😍😍🥰🥰
Purple and Teal soap with glitter-my daughter would love it. I started watching your videos out of curiosity, it came up on my ''suggested'' feed. I believe I've now watched all your videos and my Bramble Berry order yesterday.
I'd love to see a bridal soap with champagne/rose gold/silver/white glitter, maybe with some matching drizzle, no frosting, with double ring embeds. I think they'd make fun gifts for a bridal shower party or even as a wedding favor.
I have a small soap business that is primarily tallow based, including tallow lotions! I render fat I get from a local grass fed butcher into tallow and use that for my soap. I am also a mom of 3 young kids that would definitely grab stuff off the counter and touch it so I only do it when they’re asleep at night. It’s definitely inconvenient to only do it when they’re asleep but it’s not worth them getting chemical burns.
Katie, ah girl I just love love love watching you. Yes those bars would be amazing for Easter as well. As for people taken offense to any suggestions you have to offer, how could they, you are so so nice and a truly amazing! Please never leave youtube!
I love all things sparkly so this is like a dream soap for me! I'd really like to see you make black and red glitter work for a soap. I think that will make a beautiful soap! Maybe the Black Stardust Glitter mixed with the Red Stardust Glitter, I feel like that would be so pretty! Also, I appreciate the safety tips, they are definitely important. Also, hilarious sponsorship!
How am I still watching you Katie after finding you in late 2019? You always make me smile during your into/outro, you are always upbeat even when teaching, and it is always fun when you get your younger siblings and your daughter Lilly involved with crafts. Least to say you even after all these years you keep things light airy and interesting!
My favourite glittery thing is Dorothy's shoes, so I'd choose a ruby red glitter. If I'm ever ill, I watch the Wizard of Oz, and it always makes me feel better 😌
I'd love to see a soap using various shades of blue, teal, and turquoise. I've definitely seen you use a lot of blue glitter on soaps before, but I'd love to see a soap based on a custom mix of just a bunch of different blue glitter and sparkles!
Thank you for caring for the wellbeeing of everyone. I am currently not planning on making my own soap but if i do i will use your instructions both in regards of safety as to the process of how it is made.

As a chemist, I appreciate the good safety practice you insist on. And please, for the love of all that is good, use goggles/ eye protection when working with hydroxides. Truthfully, I LOVE watching you make soap, and I am excited every time there is a new video on your channel. I just... love watching crafty videos, I suppose, haha.
Thanks for posting this. Just what I needed. Soap is comforting to me and I just got the news an hour ago my grandma passed.
Sorry for your loss xxx
My deepest sympathies and prayers, Paige.
Even your commercials are fun to watch! Thanks Katie & Kaleb! My glitter color choices are aqua and lavender. I know it sounds weird, but I love it. I grew up near Niagara Falls, and the aqua color of the water just as it goes over the brink of the falls is amazing!
The soap and safety measures are great, but the commercial with you and our Caleb...stupid amazing. I love, love, love it!!!💜🧡💛💚💙💝
Katie, we love watching you make soap, because you have so much energy and passion for what you do. You are a joy to watch.
This is the happiest soap! It should be available all Spring 😊
Dragon’s Delight! That one is so gorgeous, I’d love to see a soap based on it!
I appreciate the longer form videos! Thank you for bringing these back
I would love to see you make a soap based off of the Aunt Daisy glitter, especially if the soap itself had a nice light/pastel yellow in it. Not only would it be perfect for spring but you could make a great flower or sunrise themed soap.
Also please keep the voice overs forever. It's not a royalty soap video without you.
Glitterati was the first soap I bought! ❤🙌
How fun!
Ooh! Mardi Gras and Starry Night would be really pretty together!
Omg 900k followers, look at you go! 💜
I would love it you showed how to make a tallow soap! You're an awesome teacher! Safety should always be first!
You’re amazing Katie. Your heats is in a great place.
My two favorite colors are gold/yellow and purple. I’d love to see that in a soap.
I like the glitter combo you used here. Very pretty
There can never be enough glitter ✨✨😍
Hi Katie! You wondered why everyone keeps watching these .. I can't speak for everybody, but I enjoy sharing time with you. You are genuine in your videos, which just makes people want to be around you,. Thank you for sharing yourself with us!
Thanks for watching!!
I love teal and purple, so either dragons delight or Mermaid dreams glitter would be awesome. I love this soap. You are so creative.
@ mirendarosenberg
😂🎉❤😢😮😅😊toskala arvin Mitsubishi inc. and I will be working today with your own team to see if you want a better understanding of the planet that
Purple and Teal soap with glitter-my daughter would love it. I started watching your videos out of curiosity, it came up on my ''suggested'' feed. I believe I've now watched all your videos and my Bramble Berry order yesterday.
Oscar-worthy performances. 👏🏻😌
I'd love to see a bridal soap with champagne/rose gold/silver/white glitter, maybe with some matching drizzle, no frosting, with double ring embeds. I think they'd make fun gifts for a bridal shower party or even as a wedding favor.
Ugh, gorgeous soap, Katie!! I love that the glitters stay in the soap through saponification!
Such a pretty bar it reminds me of a pastel Powerpuff girl color palette
Rainbow sherbet colors for glitter sounds super pretty😌✨
I have a small soap business that is primarily tallow based, including tallow lotions! I render fat I get from a local grass fed butcher into tallow and use that for my soap. I am also a mom of 3 young kids that would definitely grab stuff off the counter and touch it so I only do it when they’re asleep at night. It’s definitely inconvenient to only do it when they’re asleep but it’s not worth them getting chemical burns.
It’s so much fun watching somebody made something they’re clearly passionate about!
There’s just something so wonderful and uplifting about it!
Loved the commercial and we stay and keep watching because we love you and your personality and the art you create 😊
Katie, ah girl I just love love love watching you. Yes those bars would be amazing for Easter as well. As for people taken offense to any suggestions you have to offer, how could they, you are so so nice and a truly amazing! Please never leave youtube!
I keep coming back, because these videos are very therapeutic for me. 😊 and mesmerizing 😅
14:41. Oooo so glittery !!
The commercial was soooo cute! And a black glitter would be really cool something a little goth but sparkly
I’d love to see an art collection. Like using colors or methods that are similar to famous art. Special request gustav klimnt and starry night!!!!
I'd love to see a soap using various shades of blue, teal, and turquoise. I've definitely seen you use a lot of blue glitter on soaps before, but I'd love to see a soap based on a custom mix of just a bunch of different blue glitter and sparkles!
You are so creative and fun and whimsical. It is a joy to watch you!
Thank you for caring for the wellbeeing of everyone. I am currently not planning on making my own soap but if i do i will use your instructions both in regards of safety as to the process of how it is made.
I would love a video on tallow soap! I would even love locally and responsibly sourced tallow soap in the shop!
Oooh! A rose gold style would be so pretty!
I would LOVE a rose gold glitter soap. With the soap itself being rose gold and cream swirl like a marble effect 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
