    If I could freeze time I think 1996 would be one of the years I would freeze. We saw this interesting, introspective, very young lady come on the scene who seemed to have the soul of a woman maybe thirty years her senior. Not just because of her singing but attitude, subtle yet powerful. She was waify and a little androgynous yet despite her age had a self assurance about herself which was actually covering up an early life of pain and abuse. Along wirh her was Alanis Jewel and even more alternative voices like Harriet Wheeler, Tanya Donnelly, Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star. These were the new Joni Mitchell's and Carol King's. To date I haven't seen any group of women as this who actually had songs on the radio and songs that meant something. Not just about materialism, casual sex and angry femenism without a point. For alot of people who came of age in the 90s their music is now timeless.

      +Sideler74, they are still together. The lineup is a bit different. But Brett is the lead again, and they just put out a new album, "Puppet Strings," in 2014 I believe.

    • @Sideler74
      @Sideler74 8 лет назад +1

      Maybe Next Time Ronda... Or, Maybe Not. No their not... It's Brett & 3 hired guns. I saw them live a few years ago & it was less than stellar. They were missing key guitar parts etc. No good

    • @wildcountingdayswithourcan2519
      @wildcountingdayswithourcan2519 8 лет назад +2

      +Sideler74, Fuel is better with Brett and the "three hired guns," than Toryn and the rest of the original lineup, no? Lol. Alright, that is purely an opinion on both mine and your parts... Admittedly, when Brett and the newbies were playing under the moniker "Re-Fueled," several years back, they did not sound too great and neither did Brett. Even when Brett managed to reclaim the Fuel name legally, they still did not sound fantastic, a bit better, but not fantastic. Now, Fuel has released a new album in 2014 called, "Puppet Strings." It is obviously not as great as their EPs (when they were known as "Small the Joy," and when they first became Fuel) or their first three albums (yes, I excluded the one with Toryn, because we are talking about Brett's Fuel, not Toryn's Fuel). However, there are quite a few songs on the album that sound very similar to classic Fuel, and the newer sound on other songs are good in their own right and are almost just as good as their older songs. Brett's voice has definitely improved since you last seen him, and his raspiness is coming back with full force. In fact, his other side project band, known as World Fire Brigade, has released one album in 2012 called, "Spreading My Wings," which is much heavier than Fuel ever was or is. Brett's voice is spectacular on that album, and there are even moments where he sounds just like he did in the late 90's and 2000's, during his prime. I will say one thing though, from 2003 (during Fuel's, "Natural Selection," release) onward to 2011 (approximately, before World Fire Brigade became a band), Brett's vocals were shot, or for the lack of better words, he just did not sound like he used to (probably from vocal strain). I will even go on to say, that he sounded like a completely different singer from 2008 to 2011, because his voice was so morphed to the point where I could not even identify that it was Brett Scallions from Fuel singing, not even when he sung Fuel's best songs. Now, since 2012, I have heard much significant improvement with his vocals, to where he is starting to sound like his young amazing self again. You can hear it on his only World Fire Brigade album released in 2012, and you can hear even more improvement on Fuel's latest release in 2014. Fuel's live performance has improved tremendously since Brett and the newer lineup have been together. They may have not been so great at first, but now that time has passed they are starting to sound more and more like classic Fuel. Granted, the original lineup can never truly be replaced. But, this is so much better than nothing. I say give them another shot, I would be surprised if you were disappointed again.

    ya, the whole time brett was in the band he only got to write two songs, which were ALIVE AND DYING, and LUCK, he also got to help write down and knives but thats it, it shouldnt be like that when it comes to being in a band, everyone should have an imput, not just one person, and thats one main reason why he quit.

    The producers for the superbowl should put this up against any act....The sad thing is that the acts pay the superbow like 8 million for stage time under the table and that is why the SUper Bowl Half times are STUPID and have like a `Its all about me air' the musician that is....and not a grab uplifting energetic act.

    And at the same time, Brett will never be like Toryn was. The band took a different direction when Toryn came in. They're two completely different singers, neither is like the other, and that is not bashing either one. Sure, Toryn cannot sing like Brett, but Brett cannot sing like Toryn either.
