CSX did this to the branch line that runs in front of my house several years ago and I missed it because I was working. Missed the ribbon rail replacement about 40 years ago for the same reason. Thanks for posting , really fantastic footage!
i did this after high school out west. it was so cool then. its so cool now. looks dumb but its precise.hardest labor and best time of my life. ocean fishing in nfld is 2nd. the task is the same. the machines now are huge. wow thanks guys.
I was going to go there today to see if they were still working, but I got informed of a heritage unit on the RF&P so I went there instead. It is interesting to see how fast these machines work. I can only imagine how it was back in the old day when this stuff was done by hand.
Interesting. I hope something like this was done in the vicinity of Orchard Farm MO. We lived near there in the early '70s and the tracks were in such bad condition they had a 10mph speed limit on it.
I always wondered how those machines worked. Never had time to stop and watch them in action. What an engineering feat! I thought that humans were involved after the rails were removed. To drive the spike in the proper place, is there a camera setup for the operator to see? Poor John Henry...he would never be able to match this.
Is this line of work difficult to get in to? What's the job like? I imagine it's not a job you want if your prone to migraines. But it looks so fun and interesting...
Very very fascinating to watch and see, however I'm left with even more questions on how exactly these machines work and what exactly they are doing? Also are the pins being hammered in by the machine reused old ones? I noticed they all look old and rusted and beaten up. I was curious as to why?
Biggest setup was in Europe worlds largestlifted the old rail picked up the wooden sleepersthe rail and ties were replaced with new concrete ones track bed was leveled new concrete ties down and new track laid as well.
Ugh roll plates suck haha. The front trip guy is a bit 🐌. Wish we had that broom and those closed cab rail lifter adjuster things. Never seen that work head layout. We just got spreader and snubber with roughly the same design. Same cab and chasis but different workheads. And might i add, by the gods does the track behind the regulator look bad. Surfs up!
i work on these crews. ive done rail gangs, tie gangs etc. i have alot of info on this stuff. work for cn rail in canada. we have the highest producing tie gang in NA . we can do about 500 ties an hour. some days we've done 4-5000 ties.
man this isn't tie replacement !!!!!! Where are the picks and shovels and bars and track jacks and spike mauls and claw bars and screaming foremen and laborers and stuff???? sigh
ah ha. to move oil by rail, better than pipelines . good. make the trains go slower. if there is a derailment, its found. right away.Slower will help. there is our solution. and i'm in Canada. pipelines: ouch. too dodgy :-] thanks.

Very informative - thank you so much for taking the time to film this maintenance, make great editing, and posting it, Ciao, L
This is amazing machinery! Very impressive, I’ve gotten to see this live in action in California. 👍🏻

How cool is that. I saw them working in Lansdowne, but couldnt see how they were doing it from my side of the tracks. Thanks
Very nice video.
Thank You and Thumbs Up.
Many Greetings

Thanks for visiting 💗

nice catch...love those mow machines
Looks like you stayed the entire time! I had to leave because my Dad had to take a work call, glad I told you to go down there!
WOW!!!!! this was a very fascinating video it neat the way that machine lifts the rails up just enough to put ties under them
First!!!!! Look at that machine go!! I would love to do this job!!!
Very cool! Reminds me of the embryo-harvesting machine from The Matrix.
I couldn't stop watching!
sweet video I love the machines
Mommy is getting me this for Christmas!!
Interesting video!

+r g
i think the window of the cab goes to the floor, and the operator can watch from his seat
I love how they keep the old spikes there and people like me can pick them up
John Henry would be driving the machine! :)

Interesting to watch. What will Lionel do after studying this action.
An old time gang of gandy dancers could work circles around these multimillion dollar machines. Been there...done that.
that dyna-cat at 30:25 was interesting
old old old tech, time for us to upgrade, haha
Awesome!
amazing! auto machine for train road work.
Efficient, but the grabbers really eat up the ties. You would think they could improve that so new ties wouldn't be chewed up right away.
Muy buen video saludos desde mexico

Hunter Mac They are fixing the ties
When did I comment this ?

yes, after I upload the good stuff!
Knox Kershaw regulators. Ran one like that all year. I'd run a Nordco over a Kershaw any day.
Nice I saw this happening in hamler Ohio

@@EdwinMaxwell1947that is interesting to me because I never
Saw a concert tie. In Michigan
Wow!!
Jackson 6700 with electomatic not Jackson tamper heads. Good catch.
thx
I have seen them do this myself in Auburn, Al
wow that long rail about 10 hours
My grandpa work for this he died unfortunately my grandma has been depressed ever since
Yeah, that can be very depressing 😢
BaltimoreAndOhioRR I agree I want to work at the tile crew because they are very cool and I love Travis
I mean trains

500 ties an hour huh...with what 8 trips???4000 to 5000. Hard to believe for me but i wont call ya a liar.
Is someone controlling them or they doing it by themselves
the operator is controlling them
+BaltimoreAndOhioRR cool!
it might seem retarded, but watching the whole 35 minutes was interesting.
It must have been back-breaking, for sure.
thanks, that's why I put it up!
We are looking for machine operators
I collect railroad spikes
