Thank you Michael, me and my sons have built two guitars , both out of a “butchers block” that I worked on for many years as a baker. The wood was very old and dense to hold up to years of knives being used on it. The tele we made my youngest son says is the best tele he has ever played! Thank you for being so inspiring!! Live the videos and are a breath of fresh air watching you learn as you go as we did not being woodworkers. Love your channel. Greetings from Alaska.
When you don’t look at the headatock, you can’t tell them apart. It’s all a matter of pickups. I prefer the single coil P90 but that’s just my opinion.
Michael your builds are amazing. I love the fact that you built something different. Almost everyone builds a tele or strat which has been done to death. I have a Novo Solus and it is a great guitar and I am planning on building a clone of it with double P90's. The fact that you built yours without ever laying hands on one and getting so close is really impressive. The biggest challenge I see right now is figuring out how they get the grain texture in the wood to be so pronounced yet it is smooth. I think Novo keeps that a closely guarded secret. Novo uses roasted pine for all of their bodies which are both light yet unbelievably resonant.
I know Novo is a bit cagey about their specific methods, but from my understanding, they sandblast the body. With pine there is such a big difference in hardness between the early and latewood that sandblasting will eat away more at the softer earlywood, creating the ridges you see.
I can’t be the only one who thought your guitar sounded better. I have been drooling over Novo guitars for a while. Now I feel like I need to pay you to build me one. Super well done.
Hi Justin. Thanks so much for that amazing comment 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥳🙏🏻👍 I like the sound as well. Just saw a video with Andre Fludd who is selling his Novo because of the p90 noise so maybe the hum cancelling isn’t so bad after all. @@MichaelLagerstedt This just an personal opinion, but I liked the sound of your build more. To me it sounds a bit darker and more jazzy and I like that. Hey, I just noticed that this version that you built has a metal pickguard, which I'm wanting to do on my build. I'm trying to figure out what thickness of metal to order. I can get 1.6mm, 2mm or 2.2mm, which one do you think is closest to what's on the Novo?
Hi Luke The pickguard I got is too thick 3mm aluminium. The Novo is stainless steel 1 or at most 1.5 mm … I want to change mine but don’t know how to shape stainless steel … please let me know how you do that 😉👍🏼
@@MichaelLagerstedt Thankfully, I actually prefer the more matte look of aluminum so I'm going to go with 1.6mm 6061 for that. I also don't have the tools to cut/shape steel so I have to stick with aluminum which I can use my normal woodworking tools with. You can even route aluminum apparently.

I have thought about that a lot myself. Then a viewer of my videos who lives down the street from the Novo factory said that he knows that they sandblast the bodies. I haven’t tried that yet but I will at some point.
Thanks so much for watching 😉🙏🏻
@@MichaelLagerstedt Thank you very much. So the sand doesn't get into the wood pores? Hope you decide to do it and we get a video. Been loving all of your videos.
Cool, what pedals are you using to get that dreamy string effect @ 8.08. Cheers
Hi Merv, I’m actually using the plugin from Neural DSP : Archetype Cory Wong. I’m using the shimmer reverb… but that is inspired by the Strymon Big Sky shimmer reverb. Hope that helps.
Thanks so much for watching 🙏😃
@@MichaelLagerstedt Hi Michael, thank you so much for that, I am recording a tune at the moment and when I heard that sound I thought? that is what I need! Cheers
Hi Michael. This is Charles Downs. That's awesome that you finally got to play a Novo. How did you come by getting it? Did the guys at Novo send you one to test out? if so, that's VERY cool of them!
Hi Charles
No no - Novo hasn’t sent me the guitar. I don’t think they would do that even if I had a million subs 😜.
@@MichaelLagerstedt You bought one then?
@@TheGhuru no actually a neighbour bought one. Great coincidence 😃👍🏼
@@MichaelLagerstedt So, it's like it's kinda yours as well! Score!😉
It's much cheaper to build your own and more fun. 😎
Right you are 😃👍🏼 I didn’t touch on the part with the fun we are having building guitars in this video but that’s a BIG part of the equation 😉
but NOVO are beyond amazing
Agreed 👍
Hey, I just noticed that this version that you built has a metal pickguard, which I'm wanting to do on my build. I'm trying to figure out what thickness of metal to order. I can get 1.6mm, 2mm or 2.2mm, which one do you think is closest to what's on the Novo?
Hi Luke
The pickguard I got is too thick 3mm aluminium.
You can even route aluminum apparently.
my I ask where you purchased the body of your guitar?
Hi Wallace
Thanks for watching 🙏😃
I made the body myself- check out this playlist:

Great video man. :) If you ever gonna sell your ‘Novo’, please contact me. I wanna buy it. And I’m also near KPHG, only over the sea. :)
Thanks so much 🙏. I’ll think about it 😜👍🏼
@@MichaelLagerstedt you are welcome. :)
Hi
I’m seriously thinking about selling my white wonder to finance more guitar builds.
It’s not an easy thing to do but it’s too expensive for me to build that kind of guitar again and again and I really want to continue my RUclips channel.
Just wanted to let you know in case your still interested in it 😉👍🏼
@@MichaelLagerstedt sent you message on the Whatsapp. :)
What are the dimensions on your guitar body?
You can check this video:

there’s a download link in the description with a pdf template 😉👍🏼
@@MichaelLagerstedt Thank you!
BAUM guitars are even better
Never heard of BAUM - I will check them out 😃👍
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Sounds like a guitar, not jumping on this band wagon.
Ok… thnks for your comment though 😉👍
