- ⏩Documents needed to verify your NSFAS funding application
Take note of the below important documents needed to complete the application:
🔹All applicants must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted
🔹Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian or spouse
🔹Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided
🔹Proof of income: applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip, not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
🔹Person with disabilities: to complete Disability Annexure A form.
However, many of the applicants only their ID copies were needed on the NSFAS application. There was no proof of income required by NSFAS.

⏩What is NSFAS?
NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.
⏩What does the NSFAS cover?
Amounts indicated of accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.
⏩UNIVERSITY
🔹 Accommodation As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
🔹Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
🔹Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
🔹Book allowances R5200 per annum
🔹Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
⏩TVET
🔹Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
➡Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
➡Accommodation in a rural area R15,750 per annum
🔹Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
➡Transport R7000 per annum
🔹Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
⏩Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?
🔹All South African citizens
🔹All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
🔹Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
🔹A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
🔹Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
⏩Who should not apply?
🔹Students that have completed a previous qualification.
🔹Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
🔹Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
🔹Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen).

Hey can I ask why do they ask for a declaration form if I have both parents. I've been submitting a declaration form signed by my father in place of guardian and went to my previous school for the principal part but they been sending sending me an email telling me it wa wasn't signed by a principal or the guardian didn't sign ...so what must I do?

Who are you staying with now, that can be regarded as your guardian. ask him/her to sign it for you.
What happens if you have a part time job, but you want to quit and go to study. Will this affect your financial eligibility?

I have registered my application and received my References number but i can't log in itsl says invalid password/username i keep clicking the forgot password/username and reset it then sign up exactly the way still it doesn't pass to the next page it loads and stay there on the sihn in page
If you are using Telkom network or Cell C, please change it.

Because I've been waiting for four weeks now and all my documents have been submitted and it's still on awaiting evaluation.

You must not use Telkom to sign in if you are using it.
Long enough, it depend with the accuracy of the information you provided and how long does the other third parties take to respond back to NSFAS.

@@Mihleee.m hey Mihle! Yes it went okay. They were stalling thou and asked me to resubmit it, I had to wait months before being approved.

NSFAS will fund you but transfer your NSFAS to the current institution.

Brotherman how can I delete or restart my application, I made some mistakes, didnt include my parents information and some required documents. Only sent my ID document. Is there any way I can edit or add these on my application even though they say application eligible

What do they want on proof of legal guardian
Proof that you are staying with the rightful guardian in the absence of your parents. you can maybe obtain it from the Social Workers.

So sir there is no way we can add our legal guardian?..the only way is for Us to provide our id and then Sassa will check our guardian’s details?
Correct, but in most cases if it required your ID only, you are guaranteed of of being funded. Check your status.
