Bastion was not in previous seasons, however, there was an episode where Nimrod traveled back in time from the future to the past to kill Professor Xavier while he was in college. I recall an alternate Wolverine and Storm came back too to stop him and ultimately did. Nimrod exploded into a goo. Bastion’s parents were minor characters in the episode. It’s really cool they brought that back around. It seems Nimrod survived and infected Bastion’s father so Bastion would be born a human-sentinel hybrid.
the reason chuck left with the shiar is they had the tech to fix him and lilandra wanted to help. also thats why the X-Men at least before the 2000s were everything, they aren't a team like the avengers they are a family.
The cameo you saw was indeed William Stryker. In the comic, Stryker was a megalomaniac preacher who dangerously used words to influence the human race against mutant kinds. You should read X-Men: God Love, Man Kills. It's a powerful X-Men story. Stryker is very different from movies portrayed by him.
:). Love that you guys are enjoying this. Bastion was not in the original show, BUT here's something- Previously on X-men: One the OG show, there were two episodes called "One Man's Worth" It was a future where Mastermold was still battling mutant resistance fighters in 2055. He recruited a time-traveling mutant named Fitzroy to travel back to 1955 to kill Xavier before he had a chance to form the X-men and begin his fight for mutant kind. Mastermold sent Nimrod along with him - the creme-de-la-creme of advanced sentinels at that time. Bishop and his sister Shard found out about this plan and with Forge's help traveled back in time to stop him. Before heading to 1955, they stopped by modern times (90s) to recruit some X-men to help them, but by the time they arrived, Fitzroy had succeeded and they landed in an alternate time stream where no one's heard of Xavier. There was already a war going on between mutants, lead by Magneto and enhanced meta humans. Luckily they bumped into a married couple how agreed to help them save Xavier if only to help end the war. It was Storm and Wolverine. They eventually made their way to 1955. Upon confronting Xavier they were ambushed by Nimrod, but they managed to escape and ended up in a lil coffee shop where they explained to Xavier his own importance, and their mission to keep him alive. They were waited on by a young blonde woman, and well..since it was 1955, and 3 of the people sitting at the table were black, and Logan and Storm were holding hands, the racist owner pushed Wolverine's buttons after he insulted Storm and a fight broke out. Xavier fled in the commotion and hid in a lab in his college nearby. While the others frantically looked for him, Fitzroy showed up and Bishop knew it was over. He had rigged the very lab Xavier hid in, and it blew up. :( Ep 2: They tried again, but lost Shard and Forge along the way, when they traveled to a NEW 2055 to recharge the time-traveling wrist bands. Now back in 1955, Group 2 waited for Fitzroy IN the lab knowing they would all end up here anyway. This time they intercepted Xavier, but were ambushed again by Nimrod. There was a battle, and Nimrod was blown to pieces, but like the sentinel hybrids here, it started reassembling itself. Bishop destroyed Nimrod's time anchor device on his wrist before it could reassemble and it disappeared. Fitzroy showed up finally, but the group convinced him that Mastermold was going to kill him in the end, which was true, and Fitzroy abandoned his mission, and fled. NOW the tie-in: The janitor who Jean saw in her vision in Bastion's house WORKED at Xavier's college. It was this very room we saw him cleaning, and it was here where a piece of Nimrod latched himself to the janitor. The janitor as you guessed, was Bastion's father. His mother, was the young blonde waitress at the coffee shop! BOOM!! It's all connected.
20:34 Scroll past in case you plan on rewatching the og series... There's a two part episode where nimrod conspires to kill xavier in the past and hires someone to do it. Bishop finds himself in an altered future where it's a war zone and recruits a married wolverine and storm, along with his sister shard, to save xavier. They fail to save him, so they travel back again from the future to save him and they succeed, destroying nimrod in the process. However, nimrod's consciousness survived and is revealed to have infected bastion's dad, who was a janitor at the school where xavier went to, giving birth to a new breed of sentinel. Fun fact, back then, the group went into a bar and a racist waitress told a group of guys that wolverine was married to storm (it was like the 50s so prejudice against storm) and the group fought the guys with help from a bystander. The racist waitress and helpful bystander are bastion's parents
X-Men '97 is benefiting from then access and openness of the Marvel world and there no longer being multiple hands owning rights to different properties. There's no limitations. So you'll see all kinds of characters appear because that's their world, they all exist in it, all cross paths in some capacity, etc. It's X-Men FOCUSED, but occasionally you'll see minor appearances from the Marvel universe at large here and there.
SPOILER I GUESS????? Professor X was dying in the series ending from the old show so the alien bird ppl took him bc the x-men called them for help. The aliens have been healing him. Professor x n the queen Lilandra Neramani are so called star cross lovers/soulmates. U guys should really watch the old show also. 👍🏼
12:58 Understandable. In the original animated series, their was a future sential called Nimrod, who was basically Marvel's version of the T-1000 from Terminator 2. Nimrod went back in time to try and kill Charles Xavier, but Bishop, and alternate versions of Storm and Wolverine stopped him. However, now we know he survived and infected a human from that timeline and created Bastion. Hope this makes sense. The time travel lore can be cool and confusing lol
In the comics Bastion is what you get when Mastermold is seeking to upgrade the Sentinels and encounters a future Sentinel in Nimrod, it absorbs Nimrod and that mix gets mixed with human DNA, you get Bastion, a mix of man and machine. The comics create him differently than the show but he’s the same person. In the original cartoon show, the Xmen destroyed Nimrod but he wasn’t dead, it infected Bastion’s father and put itself into his DNA, he was born with the memories of every Sentinel, Mastermold and Nimrod. The Sentinel Primes aren’t dead, they are alive and they are cyborgs, they are flesh and nanites but once activated their minds are overwritten by Bastion and he controls them all, just something to remember going forward, Bastion can absorb technology into himself, remember that for some things you may question.
24:57 This is actually a really good point. As anti-racism teacher Jane Elliott, who is known for her blue/brown eye exercises has said. "Tolerance means: _to put up with_ and people of color don't want to be put up with, they want to be celebrated and valued as human beings" This applies to mutants in this instance as well.
There's always been a bit of friction between the Avengers and the X-men, though some get along better than others. Previously on X-men: In "A Rogue's Tale" it was revealed that after Rogue's absorption powers manifested, her father disowned her. She was taken in and raised by a woman who taught her how to use her abilities a little better, but used her to do ...certain jobs, and well...they were basically criminals. During one of those jobs, they tried to steal a plane but Ms. Marvel (early Captain Marvel) showed up. Rogue's mother radioed Rogue and told her to grab Ms. Marvel and told her not to leg go as the plane crashed down, and she did even though it "felt bad". The transference was more severe and it left Carol in a coma. Not only that but Rogue adopted her strength and flight permanently. A part of her mind was stuck inside of her as well, but eventually Jean helped to quiet her because the Professor was missing at the time. In the comics, I think it was revealed that when Carol eventually came out of her coma, she was severely depressed and became an alcoholic. So....bad blood, even though Rogue is reformed. Ooo it was revealed in another episode that her mother was Mystique in disguise, helping to mold Rogue into a weapon. That's why she considers Nightcrawler her bro since he's Mystique's son.
The strength of the X Men franchise is the polarity of Charles and Erik -- we all want what Charles wants, but time and again the bigotry of humanity makes Erik's cause relatable.
This is basically X-men season 6, a lot of context is missing from the previous 5 seasons, but I understand people refusing to watch the previous season from the OG show.
In the OG show Other marvel’s characters appear very often in quick cameos. In the final season there’s an episode with Captain America and Wolverine in world war 2. Animation is different from live action rights.
22:40 Well, to be fair, in the final episode if the original series, Garik *The man with the glasses who Bastion killed* use a device and attacked Professor X with it, which affect his telepathy and almost killed him. The Sh'ar had the technology to heal him, but he had to leave. The X-Men haven't heard from him for months so they assumed he died. However, I do beleive he should of contacted them and inform the X-Men that he was still alive and well.
The mutants definitely are the most powerful characters in Marvel comics. I mean Wanda is a mutant and she is the most powerful being to show up in the MCU outside of the celestials.
We’ve seen statues of Eternity but not the actual being, once Franklin Richards shows up, then we are talking god like power. Things are going to get wild in the MCU going forward.
Exactly I hope this marvel cinematic ( oni-verse) expands to new and current stuff especially the recent ice cool X-Men from the ashes as well. Also love your Eternity - Affinity Franklin Richard analytics comment
Nimrod was in the original show. He was sent back in time to present day and Cable was sent to stop him. Kind of like the movie The Terminator. At that point it was the latest version of the sentinel. He could adapt to different mutant powers. Just like the sentinels in X-men Days of future past. Bastion was in the comics. He is a human sentinel. I remember him from comics. He was somehow born when Nimrod and Mastermold merged. Something like that. Bastion has been in the background in every episode so far. You just don’t notice him. It’s usually just a hand or he’s mostly blocked. He was in one of the pictures that Forge has and was spotted watching Magneto in Genosha from a balcony.
Professor Charles was close to death. Just the way Cable had to be saved in the future cos they didnt have the technology. Charles had to go with the shi'ar to get saved thats why the X-Men aren't shocked he's alive
Bastion wasn't in the animated series because at the time the series stopped in 1997 and Bastion's first appearance in comics was in 1996. Nimrod made an appearance in the episodes called Days of Future Past. Season 1 Episode 11.
There are crossover and apparences with other heroes in the old shows. There are a lot of X-men and as much Avengers in the comics. But there are more mutants who are not X-men than the contrary.
fun fact: every episode except 6 has some kind of cameo or reference to bastion. episode 3 only has a reference to him but in all of the other episode you can see a partially blocked part of him.
Captain america was. In a episodes back in the original series. So it's not the first time we're seeing him... It was an episode involving Wolverine. Back in the day wolverine and captain america are old buddies
I hope you guys still all manage to finish all the original X-Men: The Animated Series seasons, even if you do not react to them. In fact, if you have not seen it, you would also love seeing Spider-Man: The Animated Series. That way, you can enjoy more of the 90's animated crossovers we got to see as kids growing up & see why it made sense for Captain America to be here, though it was still a very pleasant surprise, for sure. Spider-Man: The Animated Series & Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men: The Animated Series are probably my top 3 favorite cartoons of all time. Mr. Sinister has always been 1 of my favorite X-Men villains. You may already know this, but Fox Studios was actually starting to set up Mr. Sinister in their later X-Men movies. If Disney had never bought Fox, it would've been very interesting to see how different things would be. For example, Sinister being an eventual movie villain, Dark Phoenix would've ended differently & New Mutants would've connected more to X-Men. I love seeing Rampage Rogue! How long do you think it took Steve to find that shield, LOL. This episode makes me want to see a Rogue-centric X-Men movie and/or animated series. She is probably my favorite X-Men. In these episodes, Bastion reminds me of a more sinister, creepy version of Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster in the MCU. lol.
You guys are great! I'm really enjoying watching this awesome series again with you all 😊 It's the best show of all time! 🤘🔥🤘 I grew up obsessed with this show, was a big X-Men fan all my life. I wonder how long Cap had to wander around in the snow looking for his shield. Or maybe he called Tony to bring a flying metal detector or something.
15 min with his speed and knowledge of how it moves.
I love Cap's face when she throws his shield. "You know I can't fly."
❤
With this knowledge of how it moves and his speed, he found that in 15 min top.
