@@1mol831Mary was from the tribe of Juda. Biblical genealogy doesn't directly mention women so when they explained Mary's genealogy, Joseph's name is in place of Mary's he's her husband. It just followed the cultural way they would have explained genealogy at the time. Hope that helps

The Tribe of Judah were the kings, the tribe of Levi were the priests. Jesus embodied both roles meaning that he was "in the line of Melchizedek".

There is one more thing Judah did, that I think also links his lineage. It may be obscure, but I always thought it was significant. When the group of Jacob's sons returned to Egypt during the famine, Joseph tested his brothers by secretly putting a golden cup in Benjamins bag. He had a search done an "found " the cup. He was going to throw Benjamin in prison, but Judah stepped up and said "take me instead". He was willing to take a punishment for a crime he didn't commit to save his brother.
