I’m envisioning a return to “Marty-ball” style offense which was my favorite era of Chargers football. A balanced run/pass team that could beat you both ways but absolutely wants to smash you in the trenches.

Sure Martyball style without the Marty.

Herbert’s arm keeps the CBs from creeping up. He threw for 4,700 yards and did not have a single 1,000 yard WR. Palmer lead the team in receiving yards that year. You creep up on Herbert, he will kill you getting the ball to the open man, whoever that is. You want the running game to force the DBs to creep. Come on up and I will dissect you. The running game was not respected and Herbert still got his.

The more time goes on and the more I think about it the more I dislike the thought of sticking and picking at 5. In any other draft with any other new head coach a wideout makes sense but not here. Harbaugh is going to build the tram the way he has ALWAYS done it, and a receiver at 5, no matter how good he is isn’t going to build the team the way the new coaching staff wants. I hope and pray we trade down with Minnesota and acquire the 2 first rounders this year and also their first rounder next year. We have a top 5 quarterback in this league, we need to protect him and also acquire a run game, Reciever can’t be the number one and only priority just because we lost 2. We need to build the trenches and the spine first, along with that, Reciever talent will be available down the board, I wouldn’t be surprised if 7 tackles go before our second round pick, it would be a huge miss in my opinion if we don’t acquire at least one offensive lineman, not to mention cornerback

  • @mmccracken8478

If we're looking at what both Harbaugh and Hortiz have done in the past why aren't we talking about what they've actually done in past drafts? In Baltimore they took a wr for their first pick last year, a wr with their first pick in '21, another wr with their first pick in '19, and only 1 OL in the first round in the last 7 drafts. When Harbaugh was in SF they took a wr with the first pick in '12 and never took an OL before the third round and only drafted 4 that actually saw the field in the 4 years he was there. Where is this evidence of these guys prioritizing OL in the draft?

@@dandeitch3459 So if they trade back with Min and get their two 1s I'd assume the talent gap at the wr position would be gone so I wouldn't take a wr. The only O linemen I'd consider would be Fuaga or Latham but I still wouldn't want to do that bc I feel next year is much better to address RT and we would avoid paying our swing tackle $9M to watch most games from the bench. Honestly I'd probably go defense with like Latu or Mitchell and then try to pick up powers- Johnson at 23. But I also really like Payton Wilson so I may have to just take 2 defensive picks. There will be good wrs & linemen in the later rounds I want elite to great in the first.

I don’t have an issue drafting o-line at 5, however, I do have an issue drafting a left tackle, Joe Alt, and converting him to right at 5. There are no guarantees he will transition well, and with the 5th pick, you want to pick a player with the least risk and most upside. This ain’t it. Take MHJ or Nabers and don’t look back. If the Vikings trade is on the table, take it and draft your right tackle there.

Exactly. We are not going to be able to fix an overhaul every single position group. I have faith in this coaching staff getting the most out of our offensive line already have five starters. We legitimately cannot run a three-wide receiver set as a roster is currently constructed right now. We have no bodies in the wide receiver room 🤦🤦 coaching can't fix a lack of personnel. A trade back is fine to take a lineman, just not at 5

@@kevincurnick exactly, really dont like the idea of taking a lineman regardless unless it’s round 2+ but as far as our 5th pick in the best WR draft in a long time, when will we ever get that high of a pick again? Considering we have a great staff now, I kinda would be pissed if we took anything other than WR or maybe a CB. Every player we have is an NFL player so we need to fill out these rooms with best players available. Our o line has plenty of potential as it stands now

I don't mind if they trade down, but they could trade down from 37 or 110 or 106 both top of day 2 & 3 for draft capital too.
The only thing i worry about not drafting one of the top 3 WR's is that the Ravens have never been able to draft a WR1 and the last really good WR the chargers drafted was Keenan. It isn't as easy as Money seems to think that you can just draft any WR & Herbert can make it work. We saw how that went with QJ last year and he was a 1st round pick.
Herbert had better chemistry with Alex Erikson, Deandre Carter, Guyton & Tbilly easily.
They should have stole scouts from the rams instead of their D.C. in 2021.

I get Jim Harbaugh doesn’t throw the football all over the field like this modern day nfl, but there is something to be said for playing an exciting style of football and utilizing your quarterbacks best asset, his arm strength. I don’t mind if it’s more balance run and pass as long as they are not using Herbert as a glorified game manager like they did JJ McCarthy, because then they would be wasting Herbert’s talents. Remains to be seen how this is going to look, but for all the people that wanted Harbaugh, this is the way he wants to play so be prepared.

I get what Money means about the Jets and Bowers when they have an aging and infirm QB to protect. I think that cuts both ways, however. They know this will be the only window to ride Rogers into the big time. Maybe one year more? Maybe.
I think they may want Bowers precisely because of Rogers' window. Give him every weapon possible. They have an upper level defense. Plus, I bet that that is what he is lobbying for.

Honesty I think they stick & pick it will be Wr & who ever they think is best for system. They may trade down after that. I think they might just to fill the wholes on D fence because its way more hole on D than O.

The Cardinals made it known today they want the same deal the Niners made to trade up for Lance, THREE 1st rounders and a 3rd round. Chargers need to get tough too. Tell the Vikings they can have the 5th pick for 11, 23 and Jordan Addison or no deal. If not, get an elite WR for Herbert at 5. This is the deepest OL draft ever. There will still be plenty to get in rounds 2-6 and free agency. There will be zero elite WRs rounds 2-6 and free agency.

  • @rem1762

I would not be shocked if Harbaugh ends up with Brock Bowers.
The tight end played at that positions capacity requires a special person with a high IQ. It is imperative to know each play and responsibility to make that play work at the line of scrimmage.
Just look at who they've acquired through free agency.
    That's the blueprint.
    Kelce, Gronk, Kittle type.
My pet peeve applies to the quarterback position as well.
    Absolutely no pretend dummies.
