    Hi James, i've almost watched every single video on your channel now. You're such an inspiration! I've purchased an X100V two weeks ago and i really like the camera. But I'm a little bit unsure, if I should keep it or not. I used to shoot with Olympus cameras (E-M10 Mark 4, Pen-F) and most of the time I use the tilting screen to set my focuspoint by tapping on the screen (easy to use when shooting from waist). With the X100V I do exactly the same and it works ok, but not as responsive as my E-M10. The main reason why I ordered the Fuji are the filmsimulations. I don't want to spend hours to give my photos to a certain look when editing them im Lightroom, that my jpgs from the Olympus can't give me (although they aren't bad at all). So I tried some of the filmsimulations from fujixweekly. And now there's this problem with the clarity-setting (which most of the filmsimulations have), that slows down the camera to a very annoying amount. So my question is, how do you handle this, when you maybe want to shoot with a nice filmsimulation for nice jpgs and you don't want to have the camera slow down? Is there a way out of this?

      Hey dude - Thank you so much for your kind words, glad you are enjoying the content.
      I'll be honest and say I don't know a work around with the clarity adjustments, which seems to trigger a processing buffer after every shot.
      For the time being, I would probably consider setting clarity to 0 and removing this buffering as well as dropping the sharpness and contrast (which is pretty much what clarity is) to create a similar effect.
      It's not perfect, but I would much rather have a camera that didn't infuriate me every time I went to take a photo ahaha.
      LMK if you have any more questions

    I picked up my X100V about 6 months ago now and haven't stopped using it, I went for the black finish, IMO it looks uber cool and is a bit more stealthy for street photography. The peak design wrist strap is the best accessory. It's comfy, secure and your V is always to hand. I did get the WCL and TCL lenses although I don't use them that much, probably the TCL a bit more but I'm a sucker for an add-on 😀, the phone app is really shabby, I'm surprised Fuji haven't done something about it, perhaps they will . Yeah I enjoy the TCL, haven’t got the WCL but I could see it’s advantages at times, I think 28mm is easier to shoot with, but I think 35mm in the right hands just has something special about it. I do really enjoy 50mm though as it’s easier to fill the frame nicely for amateurs like me 😂. Great fun camera to use in the day, low light I end up pulling out the Sony a7riii with any f1.8 lens though.

    Cool video 👍. A lot of good points ❤. I’ve owned the X100s and the X100f. Both developed their own issues (after warranty expired). The X100s had an aperture issue, where in some shots it would shoot wide open and I’d miss the shot. Fuji Japan fixed for free but had to send it in a few times as it came back with new issues haha 😅. The X100f developed an issue with the EVF/OVF. The small lcd screen that pops up when you switch to the EVF got stuck half way and eventually wouldn’t pop up at all. The EVF display info was there but the black screen wasn’t. Solved it by putting a piece of black tape over the ovf screen. I sold it as is as I didn’t want to go though the hassle of getting it fixed by Fuji again. I’m currently using Sony A6600 now for faster cat eye autofocus (something Fuji can’t match). But I miss the X100 series. Maybe in future I’ll switch back to Fuji when the newer X100 camera comes out (or maybe if Ricoh GR comes out with a tillable screen).

The V seems to have a lot less issues than the older models, so might be worth experimenting with?

    I had a Panasonic GF1 for the longest time and I was stuck with the 20mm f1.7. Coming from a zoom lens it was extremely limiting and add in the fact that I couldn't go higher than ISO 800 it was annoyingly limiting. But I had probably learned more in those years than I would've with a better camera and multiple focal lengths. I really think every beginner should start with a single prime and master that. What's nice about the x100 line is I think it's a camera that you can "grow old" with.

    Yep. 35mm on a crop sensor made me realise I suck, and I was relying on telephoto Sony g master lenses to bang out decent shots.
    I ended up picking up the 50mm teleconverter lens and I do really enjoy using this for portraits, far better subject isolation for certain shots and gives you that nice professional look when needed, still keeps the camera nice and light and not too bulky. Super sharp too. I put it off for a year but now glad I got it, I wouldn’t bother with the wild angle though. All in all still a much lighter weight kit with the Tele converter than bringing out my full frame and lenses for street/documentary photography.
    But yes 35mm shows me I have a lot of work to be done my end, but slowly I hope I get better 😳.

      You've hit the nail on the head. A G-master at any extreme focal length is going to make anyone look pro!
      Ahahaha we have differing opinions on the converter lenses, which is something that I love about photography. For the way I think, I am adamently against it, but for you, it seems like its the perfect accessory to shoot the way you want to shoot.
      Keep at it with the 35mm, it takes a while, but you will find yourself having more and more breakthroughs in your images and it'll become your go-to ;), I have faith!

I’m going to keep trying and hopefully overtime I fall in love with the 35mm focal length, it tells a great story with the right photographer behind the lens.

    Ok, I am in the market for a X100V and decided to do a search on 500px and flickr for photos mace with this camera/lens. One common thing I noticed was soft images. I checked out many photos from nature, landscape, street, travel and unless the photographers were shaking, the images in comparison to other cameras were noticeably soft for my liking. I gather this is because of the lack of IBIS. I know the rule is to have your shutter well in a suitable range, but when shooting indoors this really creates an issue. Anyone care to comment on the softness in images?

      @@JamesParsons1 ok great i had a similar problem with my x100v.
      1. Pair the phone with the camera via the registration (bluetooth) "connection setting".
      2. Disconnect all other wifi connections, this is the tricky part cause if you wifi network is set to connect automatically this creates an issue. I think 4g and 5g networks are stronger than the camera's wifi so they keep pushing the camera's wifi away. So set the wifi to not connect on auto.
      3. Now go to wireless communication option on the camera and turn it on.
      4. The fujifilm camera network should now show up on the available wifi networks on the phone, join the fuji network.
      5. Now finally open the fujifilm camera app on the phone and select import photos. U can import the 3 MP or the full res files.
      Step 1 is a one time process. I transfer the full res jpegs.
      If you can live with connecting the wifi every time manually then leave the auto connect option switched off else switch it on after you finish using the fuji app.

I can select a new point my touching it, but it won‘t do the autofocus anymore where it selects the object itself, it always uses the pre-selected point. Even if I turn off the touchscreen function, the point will still be stuck on there. Am I just missing a specific setting or is this like a firmware bug or something? Appreciate your help!

    • @JamesParsons1
      @JamesParsons1  Год назад

      Hey! That's an interesting questions and not sure I know the answer. But here are some thoughts for you:
      - Maybe setting it to touch screen has mad the focus point smaller than what you previously used? Try using the joy stick to move that point around the frame and selecting your focus that way. That's the technique I use as it allows me to focus exactly where I want it.
      - Alternatively, you might just want to let the camera do its thing, in which case you might want to adjust the size of the focus area the camera uses. Here's my set up. Go to menu--> Set up --> Button/ dial setting--> Function (fn) Setting -->fn2-->page 2--> Focus Area. That FN2 button on the front of your camera is now mapped to adjust the focus area of your camera, use the scroll wheel to adjust the size. Then use your joy stick to control where that point goes
      Hope this helps

      Are you shooting in Auto? Shutter speed might be reeeaaally slow and the shaking of your hands might be causing the blur? Alternatively, you can use a Tripod which will give you sharp images every time no matter the shutter speed

      @@JamesParsons1 yeah I shot in aperture priority, need to try the tripod, I have one, but don't think it will work out for night street photo in terms of shots mobility

      @@toneyf hi. For night Street shots, set ur shutter speed min to around 1/125 or fast if subjects are moving and select ur max auto iso to 12800. This should rule out camera shake. Dont be afraid to use hish iso, bit of grain/noise is fine.

    • @toneyf
      @toneyf 2 года назад +2

      thanks! I dedicated one of my iso-auto settings this way, with base iso 1600 and max 12800, just frustrate sometimes when minimal SS goes lower than I set, but I know that's intended by fuji, so have to play with EV and aperture now

    • @JamesParsons1

      High ISO isn't the end of the world when it comes to fuji files, I feel like they already have so much character the ISO adds to it, where as with the likes of Sony/ Canon it just destroys the feel of the image with that electrical interference.

      I believe you can, I've personally never used it and always tune off touch screens. My nose always touches the screen on every camera and it infuriates me ahaha

      @@JamesParsons1 Have an X100F, on waiting list for an X100V. I tried out the X-E4 for a while and that had the ability to confine the touch screen to the right hand side of the screen which should solve the problem of the nose activating the screen. I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same on the V 🙂

    I previously purchased the X100T and upgraded a while back to the X100F. I use the X100F for travel, street photography, and family birthdays so I do not have to carry my large Nikon DSLRs with primes and f/2.8 zooms. I absolutely love the restriction of a single lens for most photos. However, when I go to a concert, the iPhone just does not have the control like the X100F. Unless we pay a fortune for tickets we are not exactly in front of the stage. So using the Telephoto converter gets me closer when I simply cannot get closer. I will say that other than a few instances, I do not use the Telephoto converter.
    The retro look has caused many celebrities and CEO’s of companies stop and ask if that is a 35mm film camera. Then we go on to have a nice conversation.

    ALso ISO AUTO always picks highest iso for me and lowers SS too much

    • @JamesParsons1
      @JamesParsons1  2 года назад

      If your camera is doing this, chances are that you are in a dark environment and you've already reached your lowest shutter speed in auto, and to get the correct exposure your camera is having to increase the ISO.
      Both increasing ISO and Lowering shutter speed has the same effect on the exposure of your image.
      Three things I can think of:
      - Put you camera into aperture priority and use a smaller F-stop (like 2 or 3.6) and see whether your ISO/ shutter returns to a more 'normal' range
      - Use the exposure compensation dial and turn it to -1 or -2. This will mean your camera will try to under expose your image. This may not be super helpful if you are already shooting in low light.
      - You are able to set a range for your Shutter speed and ISO. If you don't want your ISO to get too high or your shutter speed too low, you can set this. However, if its too dark, you will have underexposed images.
      Let me know if any of these work, or if you have any more questions :)

      Hey - I agree the music is too loud, and was definitely an error for my earlier videos. When scripting and editing the videos, I have listened to myself say the script a 100 times and so when I am listening back in the mix, I know exactly what I am saying. BUT, that isn't the experience of first time viewers who are listening to me for the first time. And so, when monitoring on my headphones and speaker system, I used to push the music which muddied the clarity of my voice. Hopefully my more recent videos don't suffer from the same issue! Have a great day
