Demi Lovato new album is outstanding, one of my favourites for this year. She has a great voice and vocal range, but I would like to say she is one of the best for her musical genre.
Demi is a very powerful singer. I do notice unnecessary tension throughout her entire range but she absolutely has shown freedom above C5. She also has a nice C#3! Insane! I do miss her 2009-2013 tone, but her approach is completely different now. She seems to care more about ease now than core. My dream Demi would be old tone with today's ease. Edit: One thing I do disagree with is the dynamic section. Demi has not really showcased any strong dynamic control.
I think that there are better clips that will make more justice to Demi's talent, she's one of the best voices in music today & deserves more recognition but this is some accurate, just the fans or people that have listened her live will know what i am talking about
Demi is a Queen. People used to think she had no free notes above C5, which is wrong. I think her F#5 in Anyone at the Grammys was free. It sounded clear to me. Her lows are really good and that free E3 surprised me. Her belts are incredible powerful despite some issues she has with tension. Her head voice solid, it could use more development, but she has many good G#5s and A5s in head voice. Overall she's a very naturally talented and amazing vocalist!
Demi has a New album out now and she has reimagined her old songs so I think you should listen to the new album and watch some of her shows from this year and maybe re visit this video
I think you should take into consideration another factor in your scoring system - Frequency of sustained notes. Someone who sustains for 5 seconds regularly must be considered better in sustaining than someone who sustains for 10 seconds on one magical day.
@Camden If you can too, could you change in Dimash's E4 for this ruclips.net/video/ucEQb2PfnoM/видео.html (4:37) much better 😉 And this C2 ruclips.net/video/thbgh0qIscI/видео.html (1:18) that I forgot😁 And this G6 ruclips.net/user/shortshYQQ2CZrqbI?feature=share
Definitely not the best vocalist on earth, but surely a remarkable vocalist and one of the best of their generation! I was also surprised that you used the female pronouns! Great video!! Looking forward to the next CVSSs!!!
If any of you don’t know what CVSS means, please read! CVSS stands for Camden’s Vocalist Scoring System. It’s is basically a point value system I made up years ago and have adjusted a few times since, but a way to determine a numerical value to how “good” a vocalist is. Obviously that can’t really be measured, but this is just my take on the idea. Take it with a grain of salt, though I do try and prove every claim I make. I hope you enjoy, and please keep all discussion civil! Follow my Instagram! @camden.epperson
I did, because they’re very outdated and inaccurate, but I plan on remaking them all very soon! This video was made in about four days so I have no doubt ones I’ve already done will be much much faster to upload :)
I like the honroable mentions...Lana Del Rey?? Has 10 less point than Demi Lovato? It worked!! I definaly want to hear some Lana Del Rey now? Any suggestions on G5 moments? No? I'll ask Taylor.
Overall good analysis, but I must notice, you're often confusing nasality with nasal twang, they often sound similar, but in reality it's not the same thing. Nasal twang is a WIDELY used technique in pop-music, singers like Demi/Ariana/Tori/even Mariah at some point of her career was heavily relying on it in order to belt with ease, which is completely ok and even welcomed, cause usage of twang allows you to be more versatile with your voice and lack of twang leads to voice problems and inconsistency. Oral twang is more used outside of pop-music cause it sounds very different and it sound isn't what we're used to hear within this kind of genre True nasality is not what you're hearing here. Nasality is an unnecessary habit, but it's not dangerous or something, it's just not desirable in majority of cases, a singer with true nasality usually sounds "flat", like the voice lacks volume, if you know what I mean Also, her vibrato is just a bit off, not as bad as people tend to think, in most cases it's just too wide, hence an abrupt change from clear belt to somewhat muffled belt, cause of the width of the note itself, it can be fixed, though, nothing too difficult And I kinda disagree with your statements about "mastery". Thing is, many people just throw this word around like it's nothing, but ask yourself, just cause some singer ONCE showcased something, does it mean they truly MASTERED it? It's same old issue with Mariah's G5, for example, she ONLY has 4 of them live (and 1 of those 4 is dubbed, other 2 are flat and only 1 is perfectly centred), but people immediately decided, for some reason, that it's within her free range, just cause she was lucky not to crack up there. Does it sounds like a true mastery for you? Like true total freedom? I think you have your answer if you're being honest here Same applies to all kinds of vocal effects/techniques etc etc etc, you can't just hear Demi using vocal break ONCE and say something like "vocal break mastery", it's simply illogical
umm demi literally does vocal breaks, growls, squalls quite often.. he just chose to show one example for each but if you watch all their performances youll observe that
Hypernasality vs Hyponasality. Neither are considered desirable as they both have a muting effect...we know thats in a western classical setting. I 'm aware that it is taught in classical schools now, but its is heavily criticized. Now for contemporary singing I think its not much of a deal technique wise. But people don't usually like nasality in certain genres.
Best in well known singers in America should be in your title. 'Cause she'll be eaten up by my neighbors alone. I'm from the Philippines, and you know, she sounds basic here and I'm not even shading her.
No she doesn’t sound “basic there”. There’s more to bring a professional than pure vocal talent. It’s about having people care about your art which no one does for your irrelevant flop ass neighbors. Stfu
Update:
As I’m watching this back, I realize Demi should have earned a 5 in vocal effects, not a 6. Bad math!
Her score is 96.40!

She has no WEAK register and she pretty much hold her own. Looking forward to bey cvss 😍
Me too!
Demi's vocals 2022 are unmatched punk rock fits their vocals so good
She doesent get enough credit for her talent. That’s so sad.

DEMI no question !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She killed in 2023. She improved even more hitting higher notes shes just very vocally impressive.
Well she actually has A LOT of great agility moments!!! I feel like people are sleeping on it! (6:44 and 6:52 were my favorites!!!)
I think you should take into consideration another factor in your scoring system - Frequency of sustained notes. Someone who sustains for 5 seconds regularly must be considered better in sustaining than someone who sustains for 10 seconds on one magical day.
I love those videos!
Could you make a 10 minute CVSS for SoHyang?
That'd be amazing :)
Will do!
YESSSS!!
Demi’s growl is sooo underrated!! And yes to the Squall
She might not being the greatest vocalist but love her voice tone 🥰😍
@Camden Great Singer, tier A or A+ in the world singers. Very good tone and power. Excited from Dimash and Mariah videos, next please 🙏😍🥺
@Camden if you can, could you add this snippet in the agility part of Dimash. He slayed here ruclips.net/video/ucEQb2PfnoM/видео.html (4:52-5:37)

@@vivifiedvocals4470 Oh, didn't know that!!
@@vivifiedvocals4470 stop spreading misinformation, they added she/her alongside they/them, and STILL prefer they/them
I hope you will Next Do The CVSS is Beyonce or Whitney Houston💖.

@@CamdenE Yasss Looking Forward💖

I thought Dimash will be next to Lana? But this is a great comeback gift tho loved it!
He will come soon, but honestly I just want to push out the ones I can make quickly first so there’s more of a basis to compare

@AnyaSilvers Thanks
Did you take down Barbra, David, Ari, and Mariah? Did you do a Whitney in the past?
I did, because they’re very outdated and inaccurate, but I plan on remaking them all very soon! This video was made in about four days so I have no doubt ones I’ve already done will be much much faster to upload :)
@@CamdenE wait for the Vanessa one, I would love to check her new vocals

What kind of approach she uses?? Balanced??
Usually pretty heavy
@@CamdenE can u do Ariana next?
@@ceci7488 she will be soon!
Demi does a heavy chest approach hence her full tone & lack of ease in the high 5th octave from F5-Bb5
@@grandeflamesbutera3949 If I put that heavy enough, I’m sure I can’t reach even start of upper belt haha
