You should use a volume pedal or swell pedal in front of the octaver. That would get you really cool pad sounds. Be sure to add a reverse reverb and stand still staring at your feet for the best shoegaze tones.
Within the first 30sec you can hear the digital synth sound of the higher octave. It doesnt sound natural at all. Not necessarily a bad thing but come on it totally has that digital quality.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Congrats on 75k subs, Dan! I really think that your content is great and that you deserve a lot more! And that chord progression is just so good with the pedal :D
When you said about wasting your life playing bass I laughed hard! I’ve played bass exclusively in bands for like 20 years and only this year I decided my next project I would play guitar and vox to push myself a bit more. Never had pedals, always played clean bass and now I’m on a journey that involves co-ordinating hands, feet and mouth and it feels like I suck at all three and I’m starting out ALL OVER AGAIN! XD
Your story sounds very similar to my story! It sucks to suck again doesn’t it? As a seasoned musician you already know what you want your guitar to sound like, and how your fingers should move, and they just don’t! It’s so frustrating! But sooooo fun when you finally nail it.
Hell yeah! I thought I was fairly competent with a guitar - I’d always had one or two and played regularly BUT always sitting down and tinkering. Standing up, singing, turning pedals on and off and playing is TOUGH even when I’ve gigged solidly for years. My new band rehearsed the other night and I made us play the same two songs for the whole 3 hours til I nailed them!! I also only starting modding instruments just recently too which is why I love your channel especially the smart way you do stuff on a budget with every day materials and tools. I crowned and levelled frets using your method and now the instrument plays like dream so keep up the awesome content. Gear reviews are great too. I like my gear as simple as poss with as much bang for your buck so researching the right pedals for you can be a headache!
I can relate, but in reverse. I played guitar in a band and switched to bass (which i was more proficient in anyway) in order to fill a spot opened by our bassist who left. It was so nice to just stand back, play, and not have to worry about anything other than backing vocals.
So cool to learn you’re a part of your church’s worship team! I didn’t know that, but it makes me even more supportive of your channel and content. I also play on a worship team (lead, acoustic, and bass - whichever they need me on that week), before you mentioned worship music I was sitting here thinking how useful an octave pedal could be for some of the leads I play. May have to pick this pedal up and donate it to the church’s pedalboard!
Octaves are just the best, aren't they? There's something very soothing about them. I could listen to that sweet tone all day. Thanks for another great review, Dan. You and Guitar Max make RUclips worth watching.
It's a flawless pedal effect man! Maybe those ultra big brands should re consider their long term future if they still think they will be able to survive this new wave of cheap and worthy gear irreversibly invading their budget market. I am now considering which big branded gear I will get rid of to make space for this cheap and valuable gear
Dude! That’s incredible. When I finish building my “Lichtenbacker” bass, I’m thinking of building myself an electric guitar. And that pedal... holy smokes! What an incredible sound! Haunting and so melodious!!!
I paid $160 for my first octave pedal, an early Roland before they named their pedal division Boss, actually it was before they HAD a pedal division Lol. It amazes me that a pedal that sounds as good as this Ammoon can be had for only $60. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Everyone who is a musician and goes to church absolutely should be on the worship band. Total AMEN to that! BTW: I totally recognized that riff from Glorious Day!
Hey Dan...sorry you’ve been ill and I’m grateful that you’re on the mend. You have so much on your plate that being sick really gets in the way. I’d love to add that Octave Pedal to my church purposed pedalboard. I totally get how that is a tonal asset in a P&W Band setting. Our rendition of Mayfield’s “People Get Ready” is the first that comes to mind. I’m also thinking about it’s creative utility for several Lincoln Brewster tunes, e.g., Let the Praises Ring”. Of course there’s the Octave interval glissando double-stop at the song’s intro; I’d love to dial that pedal in for the etude-based guitar solo in the song. Our P&W band goes some country and blue grass style music and I’m thinking how awesome the pedal would sound with my Electric Mandolin.
Yo I had to subscribe loved your content and Loved your ideas and your work truly speaks for itself..but then you said you go to church👍 AND that you play on your praise and worship team...dude Im totally getting on board with this..Im a Gospel Blues man myself 3 Cds out working on a new one now..may name is Joe Lewis and Im in the Joe Lewis Band.I often need repairs done but was always afraid to do my own work....bro your channel is the tutorial that I needed...Ive always wanted to build an amp using EL34 and 12AX7 tubes...the DIY amp build you did was really cool. It wasnt EL34 but still helped me get the confidence to give it a go....God bless bro keep up the awesome work and thank you for Serving the Lord on your praise and Worship team👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm glad I found your channel a couple months ago. Always a good watch! I also loved the comment you made about being a musician and getting involved in your church's worship ministry. Good words! Keep up the great work brother!
The 1st octave pedal I've heard where the upper octave doesn't sound so ringmoddy or synthy! It still does, but nowhere near as much as some other pedals! I have yet to hear 1 that replicates an upper octave perfectly yet, like I can do in my DAW if I want a 12 string guitar sound!
I have an old plastic danelectro chili dog (1 and 2 octaves down) that has outlived 5 girlfriends , 3 vehicles, and countless bands.... I think I paid $25 for it back in the day. It is a GREAT pedal and has never let me down, and I hugged HEAVILY for about 25 years. Great review as always!
@@GunsandGuitars noooooo..... you are doing a giveaway with that pedal! Lol. I honestly think the only two pedals that I would trade it for is an original tube screamer or an original Rat. I can't believe that I have missed you saying anything about your Faith.... it is pretty awesome to here Christians openly admitting it in today's political climate, I am a lay preacher and if was not for God I would've been dead years ago. Thank you for the great content.
Congrats on 75k subscribers, hopefully 100k won’t be too far away. For the fairly low price the Octa pedal is it does the job and the riff you play really had the sound of an organ which I can see being pretty creative and tracks notes well, I’m sure it’s pretty well made and has sturdy controls and silent switch as I bought the pock loop last year for around the same price and I’m impressed with the overall build quality and loops well, can save 11 loops, x2 speed, 1/2 speed, reverse or just play loop once, which for around £45 new delivered to the UK is a bargain with so many features and good quality. Thanks for your decent Octa demo and I’ve subscribed to your channel and would be more than happy to win the Octa or any other giveaways, keep up the good work, all the best Steve.
Great demo! I'm a pedal minimalist myself. I've pondered splitting my signal to mimic bass tones while I'm jamming alone. This looks like the perfect solution and cheap.
Thank you for an honest review. I play synths and samplers. This pedal would take my Monologue to a new level. Might be fun to send the drum tracks through this thing.
I always knew your channel was going to grow fast! That guitar looks awesome, and the pedal gives it a whole new vibe, great vid as always! Cheers from argentina
I so want this pedal. Because of you I have 2 guitar kits coming soon, and used your fretwire code to get 10 bucks off lol. I don't follow or subscribe to a lot of people, but I am all about this channel.
Hey Dan! Dan here. Guns & Guitars... What more is there to say. I just subed. I really dig your Luthier vids. But all of your videos are top notch. Keep up the great work!

I want to do this video for sure. I’m working on the list of what to try out
@@GunsandGuitars definitely curious on your cheap bass pedalboard

Just a heads up. On Amazon Canada, the pedal goes for $94CAN ~ $72US
