Thank you for sharing this informative video! It's really helpful to learn about the degrees and areas of study that can lead to a career as a Quantitative Analyst in South Africa. I appreciate the insights you provided on interviews and aptitude tests, as they offer valuable guidance for aspiring professionals like myself. I did notice that the audio quality was a bit inconsistent throughout the video. To enhance the viewing experience, I would recommend considering the use of small clip-on microphones or lapel mics. These can help ensure clear and consistent audio, allowing viewers to fully engage with the valuable information you are sharing. Once again, thank you for the insightful content, and I look forward to future videos.🤗
Hey, truly love your content! I’m aspiring to be a quant hopefully in the near future and I wanted to know what the actual difference is in terms of the type of work done in the respective fields between a quant and an actuary? If there is a difference. From your perspective obviously
Hey Mish 🙃 I'm in Insurance currently & I work with Actuaries The difference is not so much the title but rather the type of work that you do I am in a team that supports operations so I build ETL processes for data then I prepare that data and I visualise it in a way that my stakeholders can use to make decisions. Some of the Actuarial Teams use my dashboards to get an idea of how their products are performing so that they can tweak their assumptions. I work in SAS, SQL, R, Power BI and recently I learnt Power Automate. I don't know what the core Actuarial teams work in But we're all called Quants/Data Scientists at my company - the work is just different
😭😭😭Struggling through my 4th year and hearing you say that success in Uni doesn't automatically translate into success in the work space. Refreshing 🥺🥺
the Work Place is an insanely different life stage. One needs to be able to learn quickly, be proactive and quickly translate what they've learnt into something useful for the team they're in. It's very removed from studying> practising past papers and acing the exam. Keep up the work & finish. The real challenge starts after the degree 😉
Hi, thank you for this. It's so helpful! Can you maybe please talk more in depth on interviews and aptitude tests. How much practice is needed and how long did it take before you could say you are ready for an interview?
I saw Unisa has a degree in Economics Quantitative & Quantitative Management I would assume any of those degrees plus skills in programming languages one can get into Quant workspace
Money is very important. I am not a recruiter or a Graduate so if I start talking about Graduate salaries it would be the salary that the Graduate that was in my team is earning & that is not allowed.
& I have a video on what Actuaries at all levels earn - that is from a Survey that was published. I cannot quote anything else without revealing people's salaries
I'm coming from tik tok I have subribed to the channel. I do have a Stem degree but the only Quant intern I've seen so far ileyase standard bank only, can I email you my info and maybe you can alert me when something comes up
Cool, welcome to the channel! 😂😂😂😂 It doesn't work like that. If you're not proactive in the job search then other Grads who are will get into the Programmes.
Love your balanced perspective on the quant profession. Thank You. Ngiyabulela
Thank you for the information🙌🙌 Still in my second year of my Bsc in mathematical science with statistics and this motivates me to push harder
Hey, how is the stats side?which one is more difficult?

Thanks Kenny, I'm struggling with sound and lighting so I really appreciate the feedback. I'll try and get a mic 🎙️ ASAP and see if that improves 🙃
@@quant_in_sa cool beans . looking forward to it .
This was very informative and this calmed my career anxiety
I'm glad to hear that Masego 🙃

I also responded to this on TikTok - my handle is also Quant_in_SA :D

I'll tackle interview techniques on my next 1

Ok
I’m doing a three year program at UNISA and I want to do my Honours at UCT 🙏🙏🙏🙏 it’s so difficult working full time & studying kunzima 😭😭.
it is worth it in the end!!
Hello Ayanda, do you mind if we get in contact with regards to this
Is it possible to become a quantitative analyst with a BCom degree with majors in Economics and Finance?
I think you should take more econometrics or stats modules to be favoured.
What if one of my economics science major modules is constituent of econometrics & mathematical economics? Would that suffice?
@@khanyamokwena3222 That should be enough, because you can do Honours in a degree that involves mathematical economics or econometrics.
Hi Thando, lets say I did Math stats and math up until 2nd year, and went on to get a Masters degree in Economics. Can I still become a quant?
Yes you can! Different Graduate Programmes have different requirements for their intake. You have to shop around for ones that want Economics degrees
Can CA(SA) be quants
I don't think so,,,, I want to drop out in accounting faculty and pursue Quant🥺🥺
can i become that with bcom statistics?
100%! Some of my good mates are quants with Stats degrees
I'm just curious, imp in a BEng degree but the marks aren't looking too good. Are good marks crucial for a Quant Job?
Yes, especially if you don't have any work experience
You never talk about the salary for these grad programs we know money isn't important but it is important.

@@quant_in_saMakes sense. I will check that video out 🥺🥺But I'm an Engineering student who wants to go into finance.
@@theomashiyane4235 I’m the opposite, doing a bachelors in accounting want to go to engineering. Your path is easier to switch
