Just watched it… it broke me in the best way😭😭😭
Her album tracks go much deeper into her feelings and life than her singles, the singles are usually picked by the label to chart well. She wrote this album 90% on her own and produced it too mostly with max martin. It’s definitely her most vulnerable and personal project. It’s also very different sound wise to her other albums, she doesn’t tend to make albums that sound alike twice and likes to experiment with genres.
And yeah, the movie’s title is kinda ironic. It’s supposed to mean ignorance is bliss but the meaning of the movie is opposite of that. It’s basically about how even if you wish to forget someone because of the pain that would mean that the good memories would disappear too. It’s about cherishing it all despite the pain and being able to move on. And your interpretation is also very good about the doomed repeated cycle, the scrapped ending of the movie reveals that the couple in the movie continued to erase each other constantly and get back together in a doomed cycle. So there’s many ways you can look at it.

i feel like "we can't be friends" is implicitly created for the critics. for those people who painted her to be the bad guy. they will never be their friends but she is still waiting for the day that they will like her again. no matter how bad they drag her, she will wait for their love.
I love this interpretation although the music video depicts a breakup story inspired by eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, I just love music that can be interpreted in many ways!!
