    I just want to add, whoever you got to do Leslie's voice--that was EXACTLY the voice in my head when I wrote it. Pass along my thanks. All the voices were great, really, but its a rare treat to hear something that sounds like it was just lifted out of my own brain.

      You wrote a masterpiece. What was your inspiration?

    • @uliantemedia2660
      @uliantemedia2660 2 года назад +41

      @@pinkalien73 I'm not exactly sure. My stories grow out of little seeds. I think perhaps I started thinking about possessed objects. Possessed books are overdone, but a possessed instrument had potential. Then when I hit on the idea of vacuum tubes holding a piece of "the void" in them, and thus an old amplifier being the key, it started to come together. From there the story just grows organically, each character finding its place and inspiring a foil, each plot twist pointing a direction.

Really does sell what the guitar was meant to be, what it was meant to act as. Literally had chills. Absolutely beautiful work, man. I loved this story.... up until the final reveal. The first and second performances were far more terrifying than....
    Spoilers:
    Surprise, Tentacles!
    Imagine instead the guitar just spread its mind affecting influence. Hatred and depression spread with the music, not in a "people immediately start stabbing eachother," but just a subtle increase in hatred and uptick in suicides worldwide. Have the main character explain that he is sure that the guitar is causing it, but he can't seem to stop. He initially thought it was him being addicted to the fame of performing as the king in yellow, but now he knows that Hastur has made him its instrument. That he's not playing the guitar; rather the guitar is playing him. He knows, intellectually, that he should stop; that he should smash the guitar and amp. But he also realizes that he could never do that, because Hastur has him.
    Lovecraftian horror is always better when it leaves open the possibility that the narrator is just crazy. Once the horror is a concrete, real thing, it loses the psychological aspect.

      Eh, having a reveal with massive buildup isn't always a bad thing. It may have not been the best here, but to say it's always better is not stating a fact, unless personal opinion.

    • @CatacombD
      @CatacombD 2 года назад +6

      @@Athena_T We're talking about preferences in storytelling. Of course it's all opinion. There is no objective quality for critiquing storytelling, unless you're commenting on misspellings or bad grammar.
      Does it change my response to say, "In my opinion, Lovecraftian horror is always better when it leaves open the possibility that the narrator is just cray." No, because I'm talking about my own taste in literature. It's all going to be my opinion, automatically.
      Also, following my rules doesn't mean that you can't have a big reveal; the big reveal just has to be framed in a way that could be the narrator's insanity. In "The shadow over innsmouth," for example, the narrator personally sees a horde of monstrous half-human abominations, but it's written in a way where you can dismiss that as him having a mental break after visiting innsmouth.

    This story is a masterpiece it makes me relate and care for the characters more then some of the best rated books, I mean wow it just really good. On side note haster is such a cool consept and its ties to cosmic horror and description was so unique. Also just the dread and unnerving of its description and his dreams plentiful also the maddening and terrorizing affect it had on it’s listeners was scary in its own right. The final show was such a sudden and and completely horrifying end to such a story was well deserved and fitting to this. I always enjoy your narration of stories that are of the existential dread / cosmic horror genre and would definitely love to hear more. I know your channel has quite a few but they are definitely easy to binge listen to, would absolutely love to hear some of the best H.P. Lovecraft tales like Dagon or the Temple with the background ambiance / music you add to your videos. Anything with a Silent Hill or Black Mountain Side vibe is great as well, that deep psychological horror that focuses on isolation in a place inhabited by ancient gods and the interactions of the people being influenced by them while wondering if it is real or if they are going insane. IDK it's like freaking candy lol but thanks for all the videos, scratches a very hard to itch spot just right.

    This was really good. I didn't expect Hastur as a guitar when I read the title. The use of music and sound was perfect for a story so based around the use of music as a means of destroying the world. I do wish we had gotten more interaction between Hastur and our protagonist, but I suppose we got everything we needed.

      this story is funny to me because hastur is nowhere near the most powerfull force in lovecraft mythos, hell, he isn't even an outer god, and while leagues beyond anything we can imagine, he's just a little alien guy compared to supreme omnipotent beings like yog-sothoth and even the outer gods are nothing compared to azathoth

    I'm guessing the reason Hastur broke free during the concert and not earlier at the pawn shop was because the volume was set too high? It's not mentioned in the story what the amplifier was set to later, but that'd make sense.
    Anyway, great narration. Loved the guitar you had going with it.

    I just spent some long months unsatisfied with my usual sources of scary stories, until I found this one video! My first thought once I finished listening was: “Who the f wrote that?!”. Out of pure amazement (glad to realize the author’s name is right on the screen 😆). But not only that, its overall production is A+. I deeply respect the good acting (Leslie’s voice actress made it easier to visualize the character’s big fearful eyes not only as if she was real, but right in front of me, for example). The sounds chosen for those specifically dark and powerful guitar performances did make my gut twist, as if I was actually witnessing something terrible that shouldn’t be in any mortal’s hands.
    Just super cool stuff!
    Now I am pretty much looking forward to exploring this whole channel!
