Doug’s sense of humor really comes out in this video. Love it! Ashley is the ying to your yang and you make a perfect couple. I know I would have been very frustrated having to take off what I just did but it’s a learning process. You’ll be expert roofers by the time you’re done.

I have noticed over the years there are times you need Ashley’s calm and quiet practicality to help with Doug’s stress. And I have seen Doug doing the same for Ashley. No one is on an even keel all the time and helping your spouse get through is huge in a marriage! You are getting there one obstacle at a time and in the process are showing others solutions to problems they may also have with a similar situation. 🙏👍💕

If you hired someone to replace the roof, they would have just thrown the purlins up on the roof and not paid attention to any waviness. The roof will look much, much better since you guys did it.
We hired someone to replace the roof on our doublewide. They did not put the purlins on the roof, and we had to replace the metal roof that should have lasted 40 or 50 years after only 7 years because they stripped out a lot of the screws going into the thin layer of OSB that was originally installed at the factory. This left penetration points for water to come in, which it did. Therefore, the entire roof had to be replaced a second time.
You both are doing a great job! Thanks for doing things better than the average Joe.

When Doug said, his frustrations had him thinking he might need to hire someone to do the job, it brought a smile to my face. I'm almost certain that the best team possible, is already on the roof. Thanks for explaining in detail the reasons for not removing the old metal roof. I initially thought that might be best, but knew you had your reasons.

Every time Doug worries about their roof being off by 1/10th of a millimeter, I glance over at the mobile home just across the way, then back at their 'rough' work.
I get the need for doing it right. Their hard work has taught me a new appreciation for roofers.

Doug & Ashley, I laughed when you had to pull all the batten off because I can totally relate. When hubby and I are taking care of our bride aka the house that we are married to, LOL, nothing ever goes smoothly, EVER! Something always requires a lot of extra work so we often say, "WHY can't things FOR ONCE go smoothly, so when you get one small thing that goes right like the vent removal, it's almost a celebration. So glad you figured it out and the other side will go much quicker.....HOPEFULLY!😉☺

Major respect for Ashley and Doug. They are truly The Dream Team! So far there's literally zero challenges they haven't managed to conquer. I realize there's a great deal of research behind the scenes but I would not have a clue how to begin the research, muchless the actual tasks. They seem to balance one another so well. There's obvious respect for one another - sadly that often disappears when projects go off-the-rails. Annoyance is normal - disrespecting your partner is unacceptable.

At the 3 minute mark where you are demoing this vent reminded me of tearing off roofing in Florida and the first time I ever experienced "roof pitch". That is some nasty stuff to be dealing with in 95 degree weather on a roof. It is quite panful & even more so on a roof of a home that had burned.
FYI, never use the bit holder on screws, it is not hardened and not intended for this purpose. Use a magnetic bit. Most popular sizes are 1/4" & 5/16.
You did an outstanding job overcoming the ridge and eave pearling's that required that extra effort. Great job yall, in fact I couldn't stop smiling at how good yall are doing.

No shame in your game for that, you guys work like crazy on all you do and I am thinking that so many of our YT people are just plain getting burned out for a while. You guys do a ton, just to get ready to film and etc, let alone show the work and issues that come up with the reality of repairing a neglected home. Your work is always excellent. I love that your ethic is what it is. So many would just throw up their hands and walk on it all. Love your channel as you know. It's not just a mobile home, you are making a roof and space for a family to live and make memories in and a shelter for them. I am so excited to see what you do with it all.......I know it's going to be amazing. Hope you have a great rest of your weekend and a great week upcoming! Hang in there, you've had a lot worse than what you are doing now and you aced it every time. 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Great solutions to the unique problems of this roof:shims to level new roof strut boards, properly removing and covering old ventilation casing, plaining bottom roof strut corner and adding well selected angle cover for new roof cover to sit on. Good innovation!

Glad the kitchen vent cover came off fairly easily. I was worried you would gouge a hole in the roof when swinging the claw of the hammer to loosen the roof patching material. That metal edging looks like the perfect solution to covering the old gutter.

    You picked a good partner.
    stop kicking yourself lol
The gargantuan transformation in that (what I thought was hopeless) trailer including termite infestation, giant cockroaches, rotting floors/deck and dumpsters full of garbage; dealing with rotting falling trees, rain and floods all the while scrambling to fix up your own house/ van/ trailer/ laundry hut etcetera ....oh and and raise a special pair of kids !
    well you lazy things 😂

we did this on a trailer roof and we didnt glue the shims and they came out with the movement of the roof... so guess what we had to do... yep a complete redo... a little construction adhesive goes a long way. just wanted to say this in case it helps you. been following for years and love your work and the loving family values of keeping life simple! we just adhered it to the boards not to the metal roof because we felt with the movement inside it needed some give and take with the seasons. sometimes when doing your own work you run into things that happen that you didnt think of your absolutely right about that.

Oh my goodness I’m so glad Ashley gave you encouragement (you gave her commendations for her encouragement) . I love how you two work out a problem and it is perfection. Love love that C angled metal edge you installed over the “gutter”. How perfect. I’ve never been involved in repairing a mobile home roof, but I’ve always hated that gutter which catches so much debris. I do see the wisdom of leaving the original roof in place like you said, taking it off would have created a whole nother can of worms. Loved the video today. Even though I’m in my seventies I love a good instructional video. Thank you Doug,Ashley, Belle and Maverick! 💕💕💕

I would have gotten frustrated too, Doug. You work so hard to get it perfect. Ashley is your grounder. It is going to look great when you are through. See you next time. Can't wait!

I could never have the patience to do all that measuring and cutting at specific angles. If I were doing it, it would look like the old lady that lived in the shoe's house. 😁

I bought my husband a magnet wrist band for nails or screws when you on a roof! Check those out! Worth it when you working and need both hand for project. You just put nails on wrist band!
