FYI loadshedding happens as and when the power supply system is going through overdrive or something like that. It takes for a duration of 2 hours per session on a particular grid and South African electricity system is huge with thousands and thousands of grids so a certain number of grids are chosen to be switch off for 2 hours. We are used to it and have made provisions to counter its effect with power generators solar systems. Don't be fooled by haters that have never been to our country. We don't experience overall blackouts. The only part that hurts the most is big businesses but even there, there are ways to mitigate the effect. You should have given your mum a chance to say hi.
Eskom is the electricity provider. Its a monopoly covers the whole country. Then loadshedding as other have explained is the periods when they cut the supply off for a couple of hours a day
