I'm probably partial to newer amps, but the Mesa XL cab is amazing. My buddy has one with his Peavey Invective 120 and it's massive! However, the Ultra channel on my Hughes & Kettner is killer, so much saturation with so little noise. I love it! Plugins never sound quite as good as the real thing of course, but I do like the Fortin Cali (used on my band's recordings on praesidium.bandcamp.com) and the Toneforge Jeff Loomis. When I play with an anp, I have the Grandmeister Deluxe 40 by Hughes and Kettner with a 4x12 Randall cab with Celestion V30s.
