    For people who bought this as an external audio solution for a lav mic for their youtube videos: I'd recommend the MUSIC setting on LOW gain. I have done extensive level testing with this UX570 + a Power DeWise wired lav mic, at the standard shirt-collar distance. I have found that this setting is optimal for balancing useable mic levels, no clipping, and avoiding extensive compressor/limiter hiss. It's the cleanest audio you can get out of this recorder. The built-in preamp is decent enough that even though Sony does not recommend such low levels, I find them perfectly suitable to adding gain of +6db to +9db in post without hearing a ton of hiss. The VOICE setting is *unusable* with this particular lav mic at all internal gain settings. It clips at below normal voice volume at even the lowest gain. MUSIC on AUTO brings the gain up to good levels, usable right out of the recorder without clipping. But there is noticeable compressor/limiter hiss on AUTO; it doesn't sound natural to my ears. MUSIC @ LOW is the best setting with this extremely common lav-mic and this particular UX570 recorder. Hope this helps youtubers trying to up their audio game.

      I have this recorder and also found that MUSIC and LOW is the best setting so far. I’ve used it with the RODE SmartLav+, very usable files. Would love gain control though.

    RE: The “SD Card Format” msg. In my experience with various A/V electronics, the brand of the SD card can indeed trigger this type of error msg. I also own the UX570, only use Ultra SanDisk branded cards with it, and have never experienced that issue.

    A very good review!!!! As a bass player, my main interest is recording band rehearsals and concerts. Is this unit good enough for that purpose? I have an old ZOOM H4 recorder which was perfect but It stopped working and isn't easy to use.

    Can it record a phone interview that one person is call to you phone which is connected from the phone headphones output to the Olympus mic jack and you record yourself through the Sony external mics into a single audio file while you hearing the incoming call through your headphones? That way we record any interview on the road with a decent sound.

    • @techreviewguy7771
      @techreviewguy7771  2 года назад +1

      I don't think time stamping would be possible. Also not sure about "splitting", although you could put in "marks" at specific points in the recording.

      @DAS-Videos 2 года назад

      @@techreviewguy7771 I have had my recorder for a while now, you're right it can't time stamp, split, or mark the recording it makes in VOR mode. I used it in VOR mode near my boiler in the night to see how many times my boiler turned on. It's a versatile device. I like it even though it can't indicate the time when a sound activates it.

    Great review! I hope you don't mind some questions.
    How's the build quality? I had the prior version and a week of careful use has put a number of scratches on the display and glossy body.
    Also when playing mp3 music does the playback stop if you're scrolling through the files selection?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @techreviewguy7771
      @techreviewguy7771  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! I find the build quality pretty decent. I have had it almost a year, and I use it a few times a week, and there are still no scratches on it. Your question about the playback stopping when you scroll is interesting. There is a "music" folder and a "recording" folder. I never put anything in the music folder. But I do know that I can scroll through my list of recordings while a track is playing and playback will not stop. I find this little machine very reliable and useful!

      @@techreviewguy7771 I have run a transcription service for 40 years and several clients absolutely hate digital for some reason. They are the older dictators, the ones who grew up on tape machines. Thus I keep buying Sony BM-575's and good Dictaphones when I find them on EBay. It does get frustrating. As above, the inability to rewind and correct an error is a big negative to them. Thanks. Look forward to your video.

      I don't believe so. You probably could figure out a way to attach it to your camera, but it wouldn't be shotgun. As I mentioned, there are various "scenes" that you can choose depending on what situation you are recording in, but extreme unidirectional (shotgun) is not one of them.
