I'm responding to a DougPolkPoker comment after just getting a DougPolkPoker notification to watch a DougPolk ad before a DougPolkPokerVideo. Feel like I'm having an affair, this isn't right Doug.
I really think Table Talk would work great if it was just done once per month (instead of weekly). There's just not enough interesting/debate worthy stuff going on in the world of poker on a weekly basis to justify doing it every week. But, within a month, there's much more of a chance for _"shit to go down"_ :-D Plus, I also think it would've been great to have viewers submit questions or debate topics to help liven up the show and make it a little more organic. Btw, I'd love to see you do a video/segment on the strategy of running all ins once vs running them twice. I always wondered why some players don't like to run it more than once. Thanks as always for these really cool videos!
Hey Doug. Just wanted to drop a comment to tell you that your channel is quickly going from being my favorite poker channel on youtube to being one of my favorite channels period and that I really appreciate how much time you're putting into making all these videos. I especially love the trolly comedy videos like the one about vanessa selbst but also enjoy the hand analysis.
_11:52__ when it comes to pre-flop play, tight is right._ ______ I'm glad player of your caliber said that because I thought I was going crazy. Q4 suited under the gun is college dorm room poker from 1970
You have to say a slow, moaning fold in a live game sometime to see how everyone reacts. Kinda like when you said "czhhheck" on the super high stakes roller 2015, making Newey flinch...
Cool points - thanks for sharing games and info. Especially cool point about sometimes going for a 3B w/AQ PF since Elezra can be loose. Lol about how "Something like 4 outta the 5 players shouldn't even be in the hand" haha. In Gus's spot I think the main cards I wouldn't want to see on the turn are the straight-completing cards such as 9, 8, 7, and 2 vs the respective counterpart holdings of 87, 97, 98, 65. Therefore, on the turn maybe only really worried about flopped sets (harder to be facing when you flop 2 pr) and QT of which there are only 9 combos (3x3) and only 2 of those combos would be the more likely holding of QTs.
@Doug Polk Poker I think this is by far one of my favorite hand analysis as multi-way pots like these are very common at live games I play. Thanks for doing this one
Great episode as always! Sad to see that table talk won't be continuing, but it's understandable with all the projects both you and Joey are involved in.
Do you have a video or resource that explains the jargon and such.. so far i'm finding this is one of the better channels to learn the game but jumping in and trying to keep up with the lingo is rough sometimes
I think your analyst is incorrect. Everything is situational when it comes to poker. I hate it when someone comes to me and asks "I had AK on the button and raised pre. Had 4 callers. The flop came K62 rainbow, 1st to act bet the pot and everyone folded to me, what do I?". This is such a simplistic view of the hand and almost impossible to answer. I follow up with questions like: Preflop, what kind of players where in the pot? What are the stack sizes? What is the leadout bet to stack ratio? Anyone on tilt? Is the player stuck? Are they up for the session and seen to protect the initial buyins? The person who led the betting on the flop, do they C-Bet constantly? Tight/Loose - aggressive/weak? etc. etc. The point is that people like to get in a certain way that poker should be played and get blinded to the fact that there is multiple ways to play a hand. HSP generally has loose players that love action. NLHE is not about just preflop play but being able to play all 4 streets. While the commentary offers good advice for beginning/average players but you will never be able to level your play if you are stuck with "tight is right" mentality. "Tight is Right" is going to create a player who simply thinks "I have hand, I bet/raise. I have nothing, I fold." While you won't lose much money, you will also never make that much.
Thank you for doing show notes at the end of your pieces. I HATE when Internet producers (RUclips, podcast, etc) spend forever on show. Notes your intros are quick and clean and that helps keep me watching. Also, great content.
Aw I loved table talk man! I think on youtube hits doesn't always correlate to good content, and some of the best stuff out there isn't always the most viewed, but I guess it's that balance between content and building your channel through more 'popular' vids.
I see the logic with your call for a three bet with A, Q on the button; it makes sense. However, by just calling, the pot size can be more manageable. Tom likes to build massive pots, so he could make a play at it on the river. By keeping the pot size manageable, a player can simply walk away without losing too much if the betting starts to get chaotic down the road. Or, he could make a bold call risking way less.
I think table talk is best thing seen on youtube when it comes to poker related topics ever! Blowssssssssss that you cant do it over some other stupid old clips no one cares about! Thanks for reminder of what poker was !
If the guy on the button put in a decent 3 bet with his AQ, he wouldn't have lost all his chips to 63 os. Negraneu always says that passive poker never pays.
I concur. Tight is right; this is a good strategy for tournament play. However, I think cash game strategy is way different because more players are likely to see the flop.
Hey Doug, me again. At 4:25 you say "because both players are in the blinds, they're both going to check". You've said something similar in previous videos; would you mind explaining that logic a bit? Thanks for the content, very much enjoying it.
I agree and disagree about opening with Q rag under the gun. Personally, I don't do it. However, Tom Dwan has a different poker philosophy than everyone. Period! His aggressive style of play gets optimum pot value, which is the reason why he is arguably one of the top cash game players in the world. But that's the genius of Tom Dwan.
It’s tv poker. They are also there to build an image and entertain people. Playing nitty won’t achieve any of that. I believe they probably all play quite differently off camera.
Yo Doug you should review some Live At The Bike hands, I feel like those are more representative of how people actually play at casinos and there are a lot more interesting hands I feel like.
Bring back Polker News for 2017! I really enjoyed that show. Table talks was just a scattier version. I can see a comedic sketch where you say in one video "this Kassouf is just a one hit wonder..." - The cut to him winning EPT high roller.
I had decided that I am not in the mood to type ANY comments today. However, I just discovered Doug Polk Poker, as this is the first of his videos I have ever seen. After watching, I have changed my mind and I now have something that absolutely needs to be said: Doug Polk is fucking awesome.
Hey, Doug! Don't know if i shoulds write it here or not but anyways... Could you do Poker Hands on last EPT in Prague where Meijer had KQo vs AQo BvB. It was 3 handed in the ending of 125/250k level (might be wrong about the lvl though) Thanks for the content stable content.
I think him saying "I'm not folding" gave Gus a clue as to the strength of his hand aswell . certainly wouldn't be saying that with a set as he would be looking for him to raise. saying not folding if you raise is actually asking him not to raise.
Ill never forget walking into the bathroom around the corner from the old Caesers Palace poker room and that Hoivold bud wasn't paying attention and almost ran me over.
I disagree. Since no one has challenged the initial raise by Tom and more players have joined the action, Daniel is priced in. He also has a 3-gap suited connector too. And if you know anything about Daniel Nagranu, 10, 7 is one of his favorite hands to play.
Hey man, thanks for all of your feedback! But keep in mind I have made millions of dollars in poker so likely know what is going on here. Anyway I do appreciate it and thanks!
Don't be a sell out Doug. Your true poker fans love table talk. Don't just strait up cancel it cuz it doesn't generate as many likes and shit as the tom dawn content.
Got to ask... if you were dealt your favourite hand and getting damned good pot odds would you play it? Hall of Famer Kid Poker's favourite hand is 10 7
Here is the daily reminder, that hand doesnt have preflop and flop so you cannot do a reasonable analysis. Its also a like 100 big blind pot with a straight flush vs quads
man... how are ratings bad on table talk? it was gold... gold jerry, gold! I think that is a mistake, the show had potential and was just getting started
I disagree. Elezra has a 3-gap, suited connector, and he's been playing long enough with Tom to know he has decent drawing potential. True, Elezra is out of position, but these pros are all quite privy toward Tom's aggressive betting style. Since Tom has been known to bluff players off of a set, why wait for pocket aces to play against him? If you're in the mood to gamble, and you have a hand with potential, why not flat call to see the flop?
kkarx They decided to play it twice. They do it a lot with big pots. If each of them had won one round they would have split the pot 50/50. Sometimes they also run it 3, 4 or 5 times.
You probably shouldn't be commenting on the plays of someone who is a million times better poker player than yourself. Im pretty sure Gus Hansen had really good reads on theese guys or other ways to outplay them postflop and that is why he decided to make the call preflop and postflop he playd it perfectly and scooped a big pot. There is a reason why Gus Hansen is one of the most successful poker players ever and your not.
the poker god who is down 21m in online poker? you can be as good as you want, if you play with 63o you will loose a lot of money in those situations in the long run.
I don't like Hoivold's raise, especially in a hand with Gus and Tom?! I like just calling. However, I would've folded given that I never challenged Tom's initial raise, allowing so many players to see the flop. I would've made the 50k raise pre-flop, taking down the pot before the flop.
So let me get this straight.... I'm watching a video of a basically no name in the poker world, analyzing and critiquing the play on a table full of millionaire poker professionals, who are very successful in cash and tournament poker. That's my first problem with this video. That would be like me critiquing a brain surgeon during a live operation, after I saw a two hour documentary on the Discovery Channel. My second issue with this video, that you're analyzing and critiquing this hand in a vacuum. There's a lot of history between these players Longer term, and during the course of this game, which could be hours or days long. I read somewhere that playing cash poker for a living is like a lifelong poker tournament. Anyway, my point is that a lot of players, good players don't play straight forward poker, and are constantly changing gears, fast, slow, portraying false table images etc. etc. Constantly making adjustments and trying to outplay everybody else. Very much like a chess match
Michael, if you closely followed high stakes online poker in recent years, you'd know that Doug "WCGRider" Polk is highly qualified to commentate on the theoretical aspects of optimal play. His error rate has to be exceptionally low to have achieved a positive win-rate over a statistically significant sample against top online pros. Online poker is a much more theoretically driven game as any sub-optimal frequencies are quickly noticed due to statistical tracking software. Other top online grinders include Isaac Haxton, Daniel Cates, and Daniel Colman. The old school pros like Gus Hansen, Negreanu, and Eli Elezra have certainly achieved exceptional success playing live cash games and tournaments, but they'd get absolutely destroyed at online NLHE 6-max cash games without some serious adjustments. Gus is down over $20 million online. Don't get me wrong. Gus is one of my favorite players, and I'm always excited to hear news of him playing. Game theorists and computer engineers have come much closer to solving theoretically correct NLHE strategy even for ring-games. The preflop ranges commonly demonstrated in the older televised games are objectively errors (negative EV) according to artificial neural networks programmed to play mathematically optimal NLHE. Doug would never have survived and risen in modern online cash games if he didn't have a solid understanding of "game theory optimal" strategy. Even $1-$2 online 6-max is absolutely brutal compared to $1-$2 live ring games. Poker is a game of pure logic, and I'm never going to judge another player's talent solely based upon their fame or lack of reputation. It's not necessary to agree with Doug's analysis (I don't always), but listen and attempt to comprehend the logic behind his perspective. Does it seem reasonable?
You want our preflop range to be tight so your dream machine can crush the numbers easily, dont hear Doug guys, open with Q4 suited, call with 63 etc so the pros dream machines will not know what to do!
Doug, or anyone - he uses the term "value" a lot. I'm newish and only know value betting as in when you've put you're opponent on a weaker hand on the turn or the river, you value bet to get them to put in as much as they can without folding. When Doug says value bet on the button with AQ here though what does he mean? Is he just saying value value of AQ as it stands is a high card with a pretty good kicker is good but not that high, so get as much money in right now as you can? Because sometimes when I'm playing (online, for fake money) I'll "value" bet on pocket 8's for example, or 8 high pair on the flop, kindof a high amount just to get people to fuck off, and if they fold then hey, thats cool, maybe I only won the blinds, but that is about the value/worth of a pair of 8's anyways. Not gonna sit there and try to cook it look I would with pocket Aces. Doug? Anyone?
I disagree again. Gus Hanson is also priced in, and he's protecting the BB. Also, Gus Hanson is a loose canon who plays any two cards. So telling him to fold 6, 3 off isn't going to happen in this universe or any other universe where he's at a poker table.
He should name this show Polker hands instead, you know with his name being Polk. Would be quite catchy, surprised he hasn't realised that yet. If you change this shows name to Polker Hands I want some recognition for this idea! lol
lol ok, I just got a DougPolk ad on a DougPolkPoker video. The madness has to stop
I'm responding to a DougPolkPoker comment after just getting a DougPolkPoker notification to watch a DougPolk ad before a DougPolkPokerVideo. Feel like I'm having an affair, this isn't right Doug.
Dude you are in ALL of my ads, kinda scared of you ahaha
Nice! Now Gus is only down $19,800,000
paid for part of that month's juice.
He only won about 105k
he's down much , rly ?
That's a good turnaround though
Why? He is seriously down 20milions?

Personally I much preferred Polker News to Table Talk.

Agree 100% on all points. The calibre that Polk is putting is testament to how much he puts into these vids.
Thank you DP!
That was a spaz raise with Aq
_11:52__ when it comes to pre-flop play, tight is right._

I'm glad player of your caliber said that because I thought I was going crazy.

live poker hasn't advanced since 1970 tbf

You have to say a slow, moaning fold in a live game sometime to see how everyone reacts.

The preflop calls look even looser when you realize that Antonio folded Ad8d.

Daniel's "favorite hand" is T7 which explains his overcall in the small blind with T7s but doesn't justify it...
Great episode as always! Sad to see that table talk won't be continuing, but it's understandable with all the projects both you and Joey are involved in.
now what is Papi gonna do with all those giant playing cards?
"dwan likes suited long distance cards" fucking lol
Noooo table talk was so good
Table Talk should be a monthly thing, just not enough to talk about every week.
More reasonable approach, but for the time being im going to put it on the backburner
Hey Doug. Really like the videos. Checking out your website now. Quite a bit of vocabulary that I don't know. Learning a lot.
Do you have a video or resource that explains the jargon and such.. so far i'm finding this is one of the better channels to learn the game but jumping in and trying to keep up with the lingo is rough sometimes

Thanks for the content, very much enjoying it.
Probably cause it’s 5-way going to the flop and they just want to see if anyone makes a move/try to get a read.

Yo Doug you should review some Live At The Bike hands, I feel like those are more representative of how people actually play at casinos and there are a lot more interesting hands I feel like.
should have 3 bet AQ pre-flop if you're gonna play it like that post-flop anyway in a multiway flop with a shorter stack than everybody
Disappointed to hear you're cancelling "Table Talk". Would love to see it continue in the future, perhaps not weekly - but monthly instead.
Bring back Polker News for 2017! I really enjoyed that show. Table talks was just a scattier version.
I can see a comedic sketch where you say in one video "this Kassouf is just a one hit wonder..." - The cut to him winning EPT high roller.
why is it that doug polk ad can bypass my adblock? his ad is the only one thats popping before clips. someone answer please
get a new ad block. i use ad guard
Hey Doug, what do you think about Gus' decision to 3 bet Hoivold's raise on the turn? Is that better or worse than calling in any way?
That's fucking bullshit I looked forward to table talk every week!
It was 3 handed in the ending of 125/250k level (might be wrong about the lvl though)
Thanks for the content stable content.
What's your thoughts on Antonio's fold with A8s?
Seems slightly tight, it just seems beyond nitty because of the rest of the table.

that comment at the end was a miss. the guy with the loosest shit won the big pot and the guy with the tightest preflop play lost the most.
he was being sarcastic mr smart guy with picture of an old person to try to seem smart
dont think so
You are correct, that wasn't pure sarcasm. It was irony.
LOLLL "so, something like 4 of the 5 people shouldn't even be in this hand...let's take a flop."
But if tight is right pre flop, how am I meant to scoop massive pots with 6,3 off?
I think him saying "I'm not folding" gave Gus a clue as to the strength of his hand aswell . certainly wouldn't be saying that with a set as he would be looking for him to raise. saying not folding if you raise is actually asking him not to raise.
gabe's commentating is hilarious
sick hand. thanks!
Hoivold saying "I'm not folding" is the crutial part, but yet Doug did not touch on that. Is that too advanced for us?
can someone tell me what season of high stakes poker this is please
6
Duly noted. Just remember this name. You'll see it in the future or maybe on the felt. "Legionz"
Because of your good work, your YT channel has rise up like a dick of a 15 year old…good job…keep it up…cheers.
Uh, Thanks, I think
;)
Don't be a sell out Doug. Your true poker fans love table talk. Don't just strait up cancel it cuz it doesn't generate as many likes and shit as the tom dawn content.
I am canceling it because it takes 8 hours to correctly produce and I do not have the time to do that.
+xxxViceroyxxx Doug I'm not sure if viceroy likes your table talk show or not. Probably should cancel it
i likr goin all in ...preflop usually get paid eventually
Yo Doug, I figured you would like this The "THREE-NUT-BUTTER & JAM SANDWICH"
Table talk was awesome you guys, why not keep it but do it once a month, that should be long enough to get some really good content on each show
Got to ask... if you were dealt your favourite hand and getting damned good pot odds would you play it? Hall of Famer Kid Poker's favourite hand is 10 7
maybe instead of a news show you guys could do like, some kind of strategy talk. you could call it "the polker dudes"
Yeah, its surprising there isn't something out there like that
Danial's favorite hand is 10-7 so that's why he called. I don't have a favorite hand. It's the best one at anytime for me.
10-7 suited is Daniels favorite hand, so that is probably why he is playing it.
He should pick a better hand to be his favorite, like AA
sad to hear those news :(
Loved the show!
Oh damn on the table talk.
great hands to show in your videos..................... i just fast-forward the commentary.... and i can stand it.
Why do they run it twice? Just a courtesy thing or what?
No more Table Talk!? WTFF, that shit was great! Is Polker News at least still a thing?
hello. I am here for the value. and your daily casino royale hands reminder
Here is the daily reminder, that hand doesnt have preflop and flop so you cannot do a reasonable analysis.
Its also a like 100 big blind pot with a straight flush vs quads
Doug Polk Poker SPOILERS
Fine, Doug, FINE. Keep up the good work man. Enjoying all the content
You killed table talk? NOOOOOOO Don't fold
man... how are ratings bad on table talk? it was gold... gold jerry, gold!
I think that is a mistake, the show had potential and was just getting started
Single commentary from the hosts is good enough for me..having a wanna be poker player commenting and putting his 2 cents in really isnt necessary..
Doug maybe do table talk once a month?
Hmm, why did they turn two cards on the river?
kkarx They decided to play it twice. They do it a lot with big pots. If each of them had won one round they would have split the pot 50/50. Sometimes they also run it 3, 4 or 5 times.
8.25bb raise UTG with Q4s, Gus "completes" 7.25bbs with 63o, good stuff right there
MouZeWarrioR ** they are very deep. They each have like hundreds of bb
That's not an excuse. Especially in deep pots, you want hands that draw to the nuts, neither hand does
You probably shouldn't be commenting on the plays of someone who is a million times better poker player than yourself. Im pretty sure Gus Hansen had really good reads on theese guys or other ways to outplay them postflop and that is why he decided to make the call preflop and postflop he playd it perfectly and scooped a big pot. There is a reason why Gus Hansen is one of the most successful poker players ever and your not.
i hope you were being sarcastic....
Matt Jees surprised you can type with gusts in your mouth bahahaha
the poker god who is down 21m in online poker?
you can be as good as you want, if you play with 63o you will loose a lot of money in those situations in the long run.
Lmao @ Hansen being a million times better than WCGRider.
@DougPolk
Hey man, it looks like you're succeeding at attracting the casual audience :D
Crazy Hand
table talk was awesome :(
doug have you made the big time with poker wins
I don't like Hoivold's raise, especially in a hand with Gus and Tom?! I like just calling. However, I would've folded given that I never challenged Tom's initial raise, allowing so many players to see the flop. I would've made the 50k raise pre-flop, taking down the pot before the flop.
Queen of spades and 10 of cloves are not more out because the q and 10 was to dwan and negreanu befor.
So let me get this straight....

Nice.
I'm with Michael... The minimum requirement is at least 3 bracelets to post a youtube video about poker. The first 2 could've just been luck... :D
Too bad I really liked table talk
So telling him to fold 6, 3 off isn't going to happen in this universe or any other universe where he's at a poker table.
it looked like you hated making table talk or at least weren't super friendly with the other guy
just, please, don't stop
You'd make a great play by play poker announcer, Doug.
He should name this show Polker hands instead, you know with his name being Polk. Would be quite catchy, surprised he hasn't realised that yet. If you change this shows name to Polker Hands I want some recognition for this idea! lol
i swear there are bots doing this by this point
Why would Gus run the river twice? Normal poker ends with one run, which Gus had the odds to win, as his hand was already made.
Because it is good poker etiquette. Then the opponent would grant him the same thing when the roles are reversed in the future.
Noooooorrr, table talk!!
but Juanda had twips
doug you think maybe they all played so much together that they respect each others game and all just called pre flop i am a newb at poker
why no intro music
Testing Viewer Retention with and without it. It looks like people on average watch about 7% more of the video when I don't have it up there.
thats why you are playing micros while Gus can afford to loose 20 millly, Dawg! ;)
Gus' body language on the flop lmao come on now no one saw that at the table
Don't cancel the other show....just make one every 3-4 months....
