One of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. Extremely shy in public and self effacing. In my opinion the best fiddler from Ireland drawing breath. I have seen him multiple times play for hours without a pause.
I find it so interesting that his posture and movements have perhaps a certain stiffness, or at least look so anyway, yet he creates such a smooth and relaxed sound.
As a newbie violin student who hadn't lugged her violin to Ireland in 2019 I was so fortunate to be allowed to sit in his master classes with the others. He was/is amazing and stressed that the heart/feeling is much more essential than getting the technical parts down.

Martin Hayes can play that fiddle better than anyone I’ve ever seen or heard.
