I have NEVER thought of working color work with this method I always frustrate myself with it because my floats are uneven. I'm excited to try this now.
It's really just a method I Frankensteined together to solve the issues I had one step at a time. It took me FOREVER to get the hang of it. I probably should have just taken a class, but there wasn't much around me at the time!
Your float catching was like ballet! Thanks for posting this helpful vid. I'm a two handed strander, but if I ever go continental this will be a great help. When you said you knit them inside out I literally thought you were purling and I was like "I gotta see this!"
I never thought about knitting colourwork. BUT watching you doing it makes me think that this might be easier than I think. Maybe I will give it a try some time... Thank you! The socks are beatiful!
You make the cutest socks! I've crocheted all my life and I've been knitting basic shawls this year because I really want to knit... but I'm so slow!!!! You inspire me
That's genius. Knitting the sock inside out. I tried colourwork once in a sock and it was so tight and I had gone up a needle size and was so discouraged. Thanks for this tip!
I'm not even a knitter and I *still* watch the videos because there's always a gem of knowledge given! "don't judge before you've tried, finished and blocked the piece". Yep. This can be said for spinning and weaving too! Thanks, Trish!
A lot of great info! The continental method seems so much faster and everything looks so organized as well. As you said a lot of practicing will end in success so soon I need to do that practicing with smaller projects.
What a welcome surprise! I've wanted to try color work for awhile. I know this is gonna help me not to mention give me a kick in the arse to just do it!! Love you too Trish 😘🐑💗
How fun! I'm an English knitter but hate dropping my needles to throw my yarn, so about 5 years ago I taught myself to flick by doing 2-handed colorwork. My challenge to myself was to never let go of a needle. It's still my favorite way to do colorwork. 🙂
Such good info!!!! I am doing my first colorwork sweater - so much fun - and I am also a pattern follower in knitting and this sweater I am going off the pattern and insert a bit of pattern at the bottom - and it worked!!!
It has been a long time since I did colorwork but I think it is time to try it again. I knit English so I will have to work out my own system but I love seeing how you do it.
That is a beautiful sock! Ok no! You’re not rambling…. ( not to me). You speak the way my brain thinks so I follow your method of speaking easily. Thank you for showing us this technique.
I'm going to have to try a colorwork sock now. I would never have thought to do it inside out! I did a cabled sock once and it came out beautiful, but was so tight I couldn't get it past my heel. Some experimenting will happen! Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow never would’ve thought about doing it inside out, thanks for all the tips! I remember when I first tried colour work on a crochet toy, the floats were way too tight it was so distorted haha
I just did my first pair of colorwork socks, and boo...they were too tight. I finished another pair and had got the tip about knitting inside out...totally works! I knit continental with both strands on the left, but tips for holding the yarn is helpful. Thanks for the video, I'll check out some of the links you provided :). Happy Friday!
Annnndddd I bought sock yarn today to begin again on my sock journey! Perfect timing Trish. This I will mark for later when I get the basics down past do I like dpn's or do I like magic loop. Ty!
OmGoodness! I knit continental as well and always struggle with the yarns being too close together on my finger. I never thought about over and under! I'm so excited! Thanks!
I was practicing two handed color work today. I am a thrower. I’ll have to try both yarns in my left hand and see how it works. Thanks for showing us how you do it. 😁💕
That is SO fast! I knit continental but hold the yarns a bit different, but I essentially do the same thing. 😊 I’ve worked out a similar way to do double knitting (except obviously, there’s a lot more purling). When you said you did socks inside out, I thought you meant purling!! You rock Trish! See you on the live on Sunday!
WOW! Love your color work sock, it’s so awesome looking. I’ve never been a colorwork knitter, love looking at it, never enjoyed the process and I am a process knitter, but with your technique, I’m willing to give it another go!!
Super fun sock, love the colors! I'd be so stressed out doing that many socks on a time line for competition (I don't knit, but if I did.) I would love to know how to colorwork, and cables.
I'm a picker. I remember knitting on the opposite side, but i don't remember why. I'll have to give it another try. After years of practice, I no longer have issues with float tension. I have rings that I bought to keep the strands apart. My favorite is a peacock.
I’m going to have to file this one back so I can rewatch it when I’m ready to try colourwork… luckily as a crocheter I’ve found that since I started knitting a few months ago continental is my go to method 👍🏻
Thank you Trish, this is so helpful and takes a lot of the mystery out of colorwork! Maybe I'll move some of those kind of projects from my "maybe someday" list to my "this year" list!!😉😊
I'm still trying to figure out what's best for me but I can't seem to do both at the same time in my left hand for continental. I can do both in my right or one in each hand but my stitches aren't consistent enough if I do one in each hand so I don't do it as often unless I have a lot of purling to do. Love your float catching method. I'll be giving that a try. I've noticed it can be hard to keep a proper tension going too if the yarn isn't spun uniformly and has thin spots in it. I get lazy sometimes and switch up how I hold my yarn throughout a body of work and it shows lol.
I have always done color work inside out. I thought it was just me being contrarywise. I find it is easier to keep the right length for the floats. Thanks for letting me know someone else for it.
Hey Trish in your live on Sunday you talked about the fish lip kiss heel. I have looked all over for a pattern. Even ravelry. Paid for a pattern but no instructions on knitting that heel. Can you PLEASE help. I want to try this method to see if it fits better.. the color work is so pretty and very helpful. Thanks 😀
Thank you for showing this. 😊 I’ve tried tensioning the 2 colors around my finger but one always ended up going slack. 🤨 Maybe the key is how you twist the 2nd yarn around your finger? 🧐I’ll give this a try and see what happens… 🙂
Wow! Lol I get so frustrated trying to make a sock. I alway frog 🐸 it. I never made pair socks. I’ve got tons of sock yarn. This was over my head. Lol 😝
Do you follow the pattern differently when you knit inside out? For example, do you follow from left to right vs right to left? I've never heard of knitting inside out but I do a lot of colorwork. I find this intriguing.
My mom knits English, she wanted me to learn continental so she hired a German knitting tutor for me when I was @ 11 yo. I have difficulty wrapping around my pinky for tension. Color work gets scrambled because of how I lay the yarn between ring finger in pinky. I am going to try to hold tension like you do in this vid or buy a finger thingy.
Good tips, I’ll have to give this a go on my next attempt! Especially the method of holding the yarn, that looks like a time saver. Also, is that a sheepy ceramic yarn bowl? If so I have one too! Though mine is full of rolags right now…
I am super impressed with the English to continental shift. I have been trying to learn and switch and I thought it wouldn't be too hard because I crochet, so I should be used to holding the yarn continental style, right? No. Jeez I just can't get the hang of it.
I have NEVER thought of working color work with this method I always frustrate myself with it because my floats are uneven. I'm excited to try this now.

Thank you Trish! I can’t wait to try this technique. I had to wait all day before I could actually watch the video. It was THE longest day today.
Thank you for the little lesson, it was fun to watch Your puppy always makes me smile, he is just the cutest.
I never thought about knitting colourwork. BUT watching you doing it makes me think that this might be easier than I think. Maybe I will give it a try some time... Thank you! The socks are beatiful!
I’m not usually attracted to colorwork, but your socks are so pretty! They look like stained glass!
You make the cutest socks! I've crocheted all my life and I've been knitting basic shawls this year because I really want to knit... but I'm so slow!!!! You inspire me
Thank you for explaining all of this. I've been scared to try colorworks, but this video answered a bunch of my questions about how to do colorworks.
That sock is jaw-dropping! Thanks for the good advice. I have done very little color work. I better get busy and learn to do it well. Blessings
Thanks for the video! I’ll certainly give that inside out technique a try!
That's genius. Knitting the sock inside out. I tried colourwork once in a sock and it was so tight and I had gone up a needle size and was so discouraged. Thanks for this tip!
always interesting seeing videos on knitting even tho I'm a crocheter. loving the colours

This very helpful tips and tricks in 2 color knitting. I will need to try the inside out, Thank you for your time showing it.
Somedays I really struggle with my colorwork to get the tension even. Great demonstration of colorwork!
That sock is way too pretty to wear 😍🥰
A lot of great info! The continental method seems so much faster and everything looks so organized as well. As you said a lot of practicing will end in success so soon I need to do that practicing with smaller projects.

That sock is gorgeous! Thanks for the tips!

Love the over/under trick! I hadn't seen that before. I can't wait to try it! :-)
Your ramblings are great. Great vid.
Thank you for showing how you do color work. It helps me so much to see what you have described. How fun to get a little extra Trish! Happy Friday!
That sock is amazing!
Annnndddd I bought sock yarn today to begin again on my sock journey! Perfect timing Trish. This I will mark for later when I get the basics down past do I like dpn's or do I like magic loop. Ty!
Thank you. I always learn something from you.
OmGoodness! I knit continental as well and always struggle with the yarns being too close together on my finger. I never thought about over and under! I'm so excited! Thanks!
OMG the socks look so beautiful...
Very cool how you do this!! I had not seen that method before! Thanks!
I love knitting continental. It makes more sense to me since I started with crochet. You make it look so easy. I will have to try it out.
Thanks for this video. This looks like it would really solve my tension problems.
I knit like you do and hold both yarns on my left finger but I am going to try it your way winding my yarn on my finger. Great tip!
You make that look so easy! I've always been intimidated by colorwork! Thanks so much. I'm excited to start some colorwork socks now
I was practicing two handed color work today. I am a thrower. I’ll have to try both yarns in my left hand and see how it works. Thanks for showing us how you do it. 😁💕
Thank you for this technique, you make things so easy. Will have ago.

You rock Trish! See you on the live on Sunday!
Good luck in sock madness! I haven’t decided if I’m going to jump in this year. Registrations end on Feb 28th.
WOW! Love your color work sock, it’s so awesome looking. I’ve never been a colorwork knitter, love looking at it, never enjoyed the process and I am a process knitter, but with your technique, I’m willing to give it another go!!
Your colorwork is beautiful!
I just registered for sock madness! First timer 🤞🏻
Great tips, thank you for showing us this!
I’ve heard of doing color work inside out, just haven’t done color work for a while. But, that is what I’m going to try next time.
that is so interesting....have book marked this video to learn this
I keep wanting to try colorwork. One day!
Super fun sock, love the colors! I'd be so stressed out doing that many socks on a time line for competition (I don't knit, but if I did.) I would love to know how to colorwork, and cables.

I forgot to say I got the rings on wish.

This was a very helpful demo.Thankyou
I wish I knitted. I crochet and have recently gotten into Nailbinding. My husband likes to knit, I should have him start making me socks :-)

I’m definitely going to try this. 😀
this looks so cool

I'm so sorry, Lori. I haven't done one in at least 8 years. I generally use a heel flap, or an afterthought heel that I use extra rows to make deeper.
So very helpful. Thank you
This is so impressive. I can't do color work.
Thank you for showing this. 😊 I’ve tried tensioning the 2 colors around my finger but one always ended up going slack. 🤨 Maybe the key is how you twist the 2nd yarn around your finger? 🧐I’ll give this a try and see what happens… 🙂

I'm really knitting it exactly the same as I would right side out. This just makes the floats a tiny bit longer.

Yes, the yarn bowl was a Christmas gift from our son and DIL. I love it!

NO FREAKING RULES!!!! 🤪🤣
I also knit color work this way.
I have a friend who always knits inside out. We call it “freak knitting” 🤣
Colourwork puckering drives me loopy 🙄
Thank you for this. Beautiful work
