First time viewer. This is exactly the sort of educational video I've been looking for as a beginner to salt water fishing. Thank you, thank you. Now I need to go through your library to see what else there is.
This and The Rip video are probably the 2 videos we dedicated to beginner fishing. The rest are more of us having a good time. Will definitely be doing more like this in the future.
Awesome video guys. The best how to catch gummy videos going around no nonses straight how to do where to look etc bloody legends, keep up the great work really love how you guys are so passionate
There's a few good Victorian channels like iFishtv and Youfish that do a pretty good job, If we're somewhere around them I'm pretty happy. Thanks Greg for you're on going support.
Another cool FJ production 😎👍 I’m relieved to see that I’m at least on the right track 😁 I’m yet to put the big ship in the water but I’m KILLING it with the obsessive looking at charts on my iPad 😂 Cheers guys. A lot of very helpful info presented clearly and cleverly 👌😎
I hope it all made sense. Location, bait and patience are the three main keys here. Although I will say that we've sat there all day with nothing on a small tide so that will play a key as well.
Finding Joe Perfect sense, bud 👍 I’ve fished all my life but only from surf beaches, never a boat 😉 so I kinda know what to do. What I like about these kinds of video is being able to gauge how much importance each factor is given. And it’s good to know that having a study of the area BEFORE ya get there is something you blokes are pretty keen on 👍👍 I was surprised that you didn’t touch on sounding a location for fish? I’ve seen other video where they tend to move around until they’re seeing fish on the sounder and then hit that spot. Whereas I think I’d probably do a little of that but would be more likely to have a crack at a good looking spot even if it wasn’t showing fish on the sounder at the time (like you guys seem to do).
hey guys im a keen fisherman and just finished rebuilding my own boat and was wondering if you can do a video on how you rig a rod for gummys. keen to see how to tie the knots for a bigger fish. cheers lads keep up the videos
Great informative video, just got a good boat and itching to give it a go. Just have to learn how to use my sounders, any advice would be appreciated! I have a Furuno FCV 585. Cheers Steve
@@mattgazz2817 We do both. Really no right or wrong. You could sit on the edge so you have a few rods on the top and some on the bottom. Its all about patience and tide change. Plenty of reefs out there waiting to be explored.
The vids just keep getting better. Career in movie production?? Maybe a vid on sounder charting ie Navionics and how to plan a trip at home then transfer it to the sounder?
Just stumbled across your channel and ripping through the vids, Great effort! I notice in this one you're running the same sounder as me ( 1020xs ). What transducer are you using ( I've got a GT23M-TM ) and any tips on set up at certain depths etc? Some sounder shots at some stage would be great ( unless I haven't come across them yet.. ) Keep up the good work!! Cheers.
Yeah I don't show a lot of sonar or any tutorial type stuff on the channel of lately, been more focused on us being idiots but will try and focus on more set ups for people like yourself who would like to know a little more. You can message the capt on insta if you require more info on the sounder. @th3capt
@@findingjoe understandable, the humour is great. Maybe a quick pan over to the sounder when the fish are around and even a sounder tutorial will make some good content. Don’t forget to hide those GPS locations where the fish are 👌
@@bozo43 Yeah next episode I'll get the capt to go over the sounder and what he's looking for. Don't mind sharing gps marks with the Finding Joe Crew. Pay it forward I say.
Hi Fellas, Nice vid. Just wondering about your definition of slack water. I always understood slack water to be at the peak of hightide or the lowest point of lowtide, not the halfway point between high and low. Up the top end of Westernport near Eagle Rock i'd fish a couple of hours either side of slackwater, before you need a couple of bricks to get a bait down.
Slack water at The Rip refers to the times that the water level in Bass Strait is the same height as Port Phillip Bay. Which also coincides with high and low tides at Williamstown. High and low tide at the heads is still it's fastest running times and shouldn't be crossed at that time.
You guys seem to smash the gummy’s. question when you go collect your bait will you sacrifice a little of the tide to keep getting your fresh baits have always wondered about this I feel I need to be in my spot as soon as the tide starts. Cheers in advance
I guess technically you do. We normally choose a tide to fish and either spend an hour just getting bait ready for the tide you want to fish. Offshore we normally fish all day anyway, in the bays you wanna be setup 2 hours either side of the tide.
Hi do you know i was born in queenscliff in 1951. My grate grandfather my grandfather my father and my uncles cousins were professional fisherm. They never had any of the high tech stuff. They had cootta boats they used nothing but hand lines they used simple bait cootta, salmon, squid scuttle fish. They used totally different set ups to yours, they used lead lines. For lures they made their own mostly 1/2 inch dowel painted orange. Made their own crayfish pots. On Christmas eve 1975 after I came out of the army my father and I caught 548 kilos of snapper all on hand lines in the south channel. They caught more fish than you have ever dreamed of all different types. They knew all the best fishing spots and they handed them down in generation after generation. I can take you to probably 12 different fishing spots near queenscliff port Lonsdale and the rip or outside the rip. My relatives were Shapters my mother was a Shapter she married my father he was a Hutton hence my name. Queenscliff was a very different place me growing up to what it is today but I still know everything my grandfather and father taught me. Just some info for you the flood tide is the incoming tide and the eb tide is the out going tide. It can be a great place to fish but also can be extremely dangerous something that professional fishermen knew too well. But amateurs either don't know or ignore or to ignorant to realise. My relatives saved probably near one hundred amateurs lives out there. Good fishing stay safe. Bruce Hutton 🦈🤔
wtf Wrasse are a shitty bait for gummy. There's so many of them cause nothing wants to eat em. You want bloody baits like mackerel, snook, salmon. Classic case of big boat, expensive gear & no idea .....
This is one of the best info no BS blogs going !!!
That was the idea. Give them locations and techniques we use to catch gummies.

Awesome. Just found you guys. amazing info. at last someone not scared to help others with gps plots and contour reading and thoughts. Thanks so much
No problems, stay tuned for helpful tips.
Fingers crossed we can get out there soon
Think we need to set aside a few days when this lockdown ends.
Bloody love this. Has to be the best how to catch gummy video going

Great information
All we need now is time/access to the ocean.
Hopefully this coming week.

hey legends,
love the vid. what was the website of the naviotics map?
Just google Navionics and it will come up. Go to chart viewer when you're there.

I'm actually not sure on that model of sounder.
Great vid guys. Well done.
Do you anchor on top of the reef or the bottom? Do you fish the top or bottom of the reef? Heard 2 different opinions...

great info on targeting gummy sharks local offshore. 10/10
Thanks buddy.
Do you guys anchor on the reef or beside the reef on the sand
Both, just depends on how big the reef is to whether we anchor on top or not.
