Your videos are always warm, comforting and informative, my favorite are like this one and the history of roses, or different types, no one does these things like you!!! Much love
Jason, you are one of only a few gardening/growing channels I subscribe to and your videos are always so on point. Thank you for the energy and care you put into explaining everything in your videos. Great job as usual 👏🏻
Hi Jason. Really enjoyed the visit to the rose farm the other day. I want to thank you for this video. I’ve been starting seeds indoors for 3 years and thought I had it. Different plants (seeds) seem less forgiving. This format helped me realize where I needed to adjust things. Thank you so so much
Great video! You filled in the blanks for my hardening off stage. I appreciate the tip on using the gentle fan and the specific temperature requirements. I moved my 4 tiered rack of plants in front of my open window. The temperature is perfect. The breeze is gentle. It is rainy and overcast today so they are still enjoying the light from my grow lights but are getting the temperature drop and the gentle breeze. Love your communication style too. No fanfare, noise, or car salesman type hype. Calm and clear. Have an amazing day. God Bless you.
I did this one a while back - the contest is over, but the info is still decent: ruclips.net/video/rUqnOlRCl4Y/видео.html And here's another light review with a different brand: ruclips.net/video/7VpTOsfGBj0/видео.html
Thank you for this! This is the BEST video I have seen thus far on starting seeds and knowing EXACTLY what to do at each stage. I LOVE that you broke the process into three simple stages AND the chart you created is GENUIS! It's so easy to understand and very duplicatable! I hope you don't mind, I totally copied the chart and have it hanging in my office for reference. Such a great video, thank you! :)
I am so grateful I found your channel last week and have been learning so much from watching your previous videos. You are a wealth of knowledge. From Ontario and have started pepper and wild black cap seeds I foraged last fall. The black caps just poked through this morning. The next batch of seeds I have I'm going apply your teachings and experiment. Thank you again, Jason.
A real pleasure Jasón. I have just started an indoor seedlings experience and your precious advice couldn’t reach me at better time. As you know I am an amateur experimental soul. Love nature, love plants and all that has life - can’t help seeing behind you those hills, mountains and what might be snow - sorry for inserting this observation. It must be very beautiful there where you live. I will definitely follow your recommendations a long with my little knowledge in growing plants from seeds indoors. As always, thank you. 😍
I appreciate all your good information and your kind encouragement. I was going to give up on starting seeds because my seedlings only thrive until a certain point, but now I will keep on trying.
Jason-I hope you don't mind I shared this video with a Facebook group, Grow Flowers! I hope you don't mind-should have asked first. But I am so thankful for all your information, I wish I had heard it when I was first starting to grow seeds/plants/cuttings. Thank you for taking the time to teach! Love all your videos!
Great video for the three stages. Last year I purchased an indoor artificial light grow system (6,400 K) to start my seeds, but did not start them off in dark, high humidity. That explains my hit & miss success in getting some of them started. Thanks again.
I started targetes from seeds last year in June. There were times I thought I didn't make it, but from some point on they've been just fine. They bloomed until November. I also tried Zinas in the autumn outside - they didn't get to 4 leaves. Now I am trying osteospermum ecklonis. I put 10 seeds on a wet napkin, which I put in a sealed bag next to a radiator. In 10 days 2 have germinated. I moved everything to the ground a few days ago. Following your advice I separated the germinated ones and moved them to a cold sunny room. I covered the pot with seeds with a plastic. I wish it was easier :)
Oh my goodness gracious, this video should be required watching for EVERY new gardener. After a few years of buying plants for my garden I realized that I should be using seeds to help with the cost. Lots of trouble with the first batches, so I have been looking for help. And then I found your channel and I immediately hit the subscribe button based on clear, concise, and complete information. That is not something that other YT'ers offer. Thank you so much Jason, you are quite organized and I am so thankful that I found your channel. Now... off to binge watch your videos. Thanks so much from Northwest Arkansas, USA (zone 6b). Hugs.
I'm new to gardening and your videos have helped me to understand a lot more about my plants and how to start my seedlings! Love how structured the videos are and how well you explain all the steps. Thank you so much! :)
Fantastic video, really helped me get my garden going this year. I'm in stage 2 with most of my plants (the basil took a little longer than expected to germinate), and these tips have been very helpful and most of my plants look very healthy! Growing from seed is much harder than buying plants from the local garden store, but really rewarding and fun!
Hi Jason. Thank you for posting another informational video. I must say that the first shot of you as the video started with the clouds and hills in the background is fabulous! Have a wonderful growing season ahead.
Thank you Jason for all the wonderful videos you made! I never thought I could have had even half of a green thumb, but you have encouraged me so much to give it a try! My little small pots of garden during this pandemic is giving me so much joy I never expected. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into these very informative and educational videos. Please keep up with the great work!!
Excellent information! Thank you for the time and thought you put into these. Your explanations and chart are exactly what I needed. I could never figure out quite what I was doing wrong and now I have hope for this year's seedlings!
Thank you so much for an informative video. Simple and thorough I feel like I can tell the next person without getting confused. And the mountain behind is gorgeous!!
As a teacher of horticulture in Ireland I am just loving your videos and how clearly and to the point they are. Is the chart available or can you let me know where you sourced it pls?

Hi Jason and everyone @ Fraser Valley Rose Farm Happy and Healthy New Year and 2021 Thank you so much for the tips and advice on how to grow seedlings I always tend to give them too much water and then the die so thank you for sharing the beautiful video❤️👍😀🌹
What beautiful landscape you have behind you. I am of course not diminishing the quality and density of information in your video. As I am a starter who wasted alot of efforts in failed tests and who wasted tons of hours infront of youtube to learn, I wish I merely watched your video first.
Yay Jason! Always the clearest and wisest. Here in zone 5 I've heard that I should start dahlia seeds and pansies in January --- but then I think - what then? 8 weeks puts me in mid March - a frigid period here in upper NY.... so I think I'll take it a little easier and begin those in February, aiming for mid April to pot up in the lean-to cold greenhouse we just built rather than straight in the ground. If you have any thoughts on that I'd love to hear. Warmest regards Jennie
Fantastic video and finally, a video in Canadian climates! I've watched way too many videos on how to start plant seeds. Yours is by far, the most helpful. Great knowledge, love that you take us through the growth stages and what to expect. To the point, quick (nothing long drawn out here as in sooooo many other videos), and exactly all the info I need in starting seeds. I'm a little late this year (have a bunch of seeds potted but late) but saving this video for next year. I'm new to gardening so I'm taking a chance with seeds, though late, to see what happens with them. Bought a bunch of plants to go in the ground so seeding is an experiment for me this year. Well done! Going to look for more of your videos!
I just germinated and planted 20 moringa trees... about 10 days ago I soaked them for 24 hours, put them in a ziplock bag 3 days with no paper or water (as soon as the root was 2cm I planted them 1 cm deep) they took another 2 to 3 days to break the surface - kept them moist. Now they are already 10cm to 15cm tall !
@@FraserValleyRoseFarm Hi Jason I'm growing desert roses from seeds indoors as winter approaches I need to use lights and not sure how far from the seedling do I put my lights ? I purchased led tube lights 3000 L & 6.5000 Kelvin Thank you so much for this video it's a big help 👍
Love it, wonderful, thank you Jason! My only question really is “how do you define ‘moist’ for the seeds?” I think most of my attempts at propagation have failed due to the rot of over-wetness.
Hi Mike - "moist" is a hard word to explain in a way that will mean the same thing to everyone. If you were starting your seeds on a paper towel, as an example, "moist" would probably mean applying your water with a sprayer rather than the tap. With growing medium, it means starting from a dry, light potting soil and mixing water a bit at a time until it is darker and damp to the touch - but never adding enough that you could squeeze water from it when you ball the soil in your hand.
Thanks. I discuss it somewhat in this video: ruclips.net/video/9ltD3OgIp4A/видео.html There are a few different kinds of pretreatment, each specific to a plant or group of plants. Stratification (cold treatment) is the usual. Others include nicking or scraping seeds, a bath in boiling water, or even exposing to smoke! Happily, most veggies and annuals require no treatment at all.
Hi I'm in the UK. I have recently found you on RUclips and I'm so glad I did. I have been binge watching your videos and love the way you present them. I especially love the rose care videos, you give such clear advice. I have always propagated my plants with or without success, but since listening to you, I now know that I repotted my roses far too soon. This year I want to use grow lights to start my bedding plants on a rack system. I've watched many videos and I understand the concept but my mind is blown by all the different ones. I would like to grow on a rack using led strip lighting, can you give me any advice on products please. I have looked to see if you have a video on led lighting but as yet haven't found one. I want to use a rack with 4 shelves therefore needing 4 strip lights which connect or daisy chain and have on a timer. I need to keep the costs down if possible without scrimping on the product. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
I've done a couple of lighting reviews including this one on the SpiderFarmer SF1000 ruclips.net/video/7VpTOsfGBj0/видео.html but even just an LED fluorescent replacement that fits the same fixture would be fine - cool white or daylight spectrum.
Great video and thanks for sharing this great information. Sure learned a lot. I would like to see the next video you talked about Growing On Plants in pots but could not find it in your videos. Any advice where to find it. Thanks again.
It's a similar idea: warm, moist and somewhat shaded to begin (to reduce moisture stress on the cuttings), then when the plant begins to develop roots, you can reduce humidity, increase light, and wean onto water and fertilizer as needed. The timeline varies a lot by plant and stage of cutting.
Another excellent video. My lavender seedlings are in a 'sterile' peat-perlite mix. Any specific advice on when to fertilize lavender seedlings? I will be using a solid organic fert (4-4-4) to top dress.
Sounds good. After this first seedling stage, I usually transplant to a 9cm pot with a low rate of slow release fertilizer, supplementing with liquid feed as needed. A solid organic formula is a good fit, because it won't burn at a reasonable rate of application. I'd suggest you continue to apply throughout the season (or move over to something with a lightly lower N value) because lavender stays in active growth much later than other perennials.
This video was extremely helpful, as the chart. Many thanks for this. Question: I live in Jacksonville, FL so humidity, temperatures and hardening off is a bit more confusing. Any references I could read up on to help my specific needs for my seedlings?
Thanks. Definitely a little different when you're not up against cool temps and low humidity. You still just want to move them along in stages to their eventual growing conditions, protecting them from any extremes along the way.
Jesus! Look at that view behind him! That is absolutely beautiful!
What a fence !

when you squeeze the soil in your hand a ball should remain. if you touch it it should fall apart.

I'd suggest you continue to apply throughout the season (or move over to something with a lightly lower N value) because lavender stays in active growth much later than other perennials.
Great video!
