    • @MythicSuns
      @MythicSuns 2 года назад +111

      @@astearn6546 Ah, but that's tactical; if your friend knows you only occasionally tell the truth then they won't know for sure if you're laughing because you've got a good hand or laughing to throw them off. You're pretty much giving yourself more room to make whatever face you want without raising suspicion.

    • @jonb914
      @jonb914 2 года назад +32

      Depends entirely on context/feel but it can absolutely be used to get into people's heads. "Nah dude I'm not bluffing, I made a full house" to someone you've been bluffing all night - maybe pisses them off enough to call. Then potentially puts them on monkey tilt after they call and you show the full house.

That's why it's better to try in life, then to have a lifetime of regrets. With that said, I mean that only with things that are good, not illegal, like robbing a bank etc.

      if he had called and upon show, you can not lie about your hand so it was close to being a bad play since you can muck your cards without showing if someone says i got the boat and then you muck without showing then he shows a 3 pair. in that case he would be entitled to a reversal of the hand. in this case he just plain got bluffed because he lied about his hand prior to him calling so its a matter of seconds before it being a bluff and a cheating play and if you didnt know there are rules to about saying what your hand is to an opponent in poker at a casino. looks like an easy call to a poker pro but to a laymen these rules are confusing. i wonder how he knew it was a bluff?. did the man show the bluff did his hand get flipped? or did the loser show muck his hand and the winner did the same? knowing the rules and thinking you know the rules can be confusing and you should contest a bad play with the pit bosses or the dealer but at the end there it seems like he learned what his mistake was by being asked did you call? if he had called and then you say i got the boat thats where the bad play can be challenged and the pot reversed. but seeing your reaction im sure you already knew all the little details in poker

      Some casinos have rules that forbid people talking about their cards until after the hand is finished, so it’s not unreasonable to complain about someone discussing their cards during a hand. The fact that he said “I trusted him” though makes him sound like an idiot. He should’ve just asked if discussing your cards is allowed.
      At the very least, saying you have a full house when you don’t is some hilarious second grade etiquette, and if it’s a decent card room, doing it repeatedly could get you relegated from the gentleman’s table to the scoundrels table….

      Not being a gambler I trust your knowledge, but I'd have though outright lying might be a bit off, if he smiled and said 'oh nice' or something, but to give specific and blatantly false info is a bit off IMHO, obviously if he said 'there's a bear behind you, run!' it would be wrong, because it affects the game by total misrepresentation, rather than true sportsmanship! Personally, I can see why he's angry, but I guess, there was nothing illegal done, bloke just needs to suck it up and put it down to experience!

      @@orionraine9597 he is giving you proper poker etiquette as is done at the professional level. Bluffing is different from outright blatant lying. This is similar to what Tony G did to Phil Helmuth when he lied about not looking at his hand.
      Bluffing is leading the other person to believe a lie that you have been telling by your betting and mannerisms (aka Hollywooding) where as saying out something untrue like 'Dude just muck your hand, I got quads'' when in reality you don't is not considered bluffing, it just considered bad sleazy behaviour.
      It's not illegal but it definitely ensures that you don't get invited to professional or high stakes games again.
