In deep respect for Edgar Froeses tangerine dream ,but only with Christoph they made the music from Tangerine Dream we love so .His space and drone sounds and fine melodies with marvelous movings .he plays fantastic drums and drumsounds .And yes his is the real sequencer king. Christopher is musical wizzard and genius .My musical hero. Please Christopher ,after all these years ,come back and make good music again .We fans miss You !!!!
In truth, TD was Edgar's band and it seems he was the "concepts man". But if anyone had ever doubted the ENORMOUS influence of Christoph Franke in the TD sound, his solo pieces such as this should put the record straight. A true master and genius in his own right. I only wish he would make more albums.
That would make you and 90% of the Tangerine dream fanbase, me included, wanting more albums from Chris. But hopefully like Peter Baumann one day he will surprise us.
It's no wonder the 3 original members of TD made such enormously impactful music, when each one of them stand alone as highly novel musicians all indivdually capable of the same standards they achieved together.
I heard this when it came out in 1994 on the Klemania CD. It's what I, and I guess many Franke fans were waiting for. Very focused and superb music. After that, he moved away from his TD background, so a last hurrah from him in that context.
By the way ihave mostly al his solo albums and his Film soundtrack albums with The Berlin Symphoinc Film Orchestra and al the albums from tangerine dream .Franke is one of the great composers in modern Film music ,and one the greatest electronic musiciansin the world .
A marvelous and careful manipulation of materials inflamed by temperate spirit ... There are very few moments when the intensity of what is presented here is imposed at this point !
Pacific Coast Highway, sounding themes in the background? I remember when I had that album on tape , and thought Franke had a future in Hollywood. He always had a movie soundscape feel like he's "morphing" from scene to scene. This is a perfect demo to throw at the LA producers. But obviously TD''s music is more listenable as pure music. That's why I never kept up following CF, but look who's smiling all the way to fame and fortune, and being the best in the game..
Long long time ago I watched B5 and forever memorised the name of the composer because I loved everything about this show, including the opening themes. Around 6-7 years ago I developed liking for ambient about which I had known nothing except for the word and the fact that I wanted to listen to something slow, electronic and hopefully with no drums (no easy listening elevator stuff). Thus my search brought me to Klaus Schulze and TD. I was very much surprised it was the Franke I first had heard as the B5 composer.
This composition was created in the same era as the Babylon 5 soundtracks, which use thick orchestral arrangements with some synthesizer padding. This suite has interesting ideas but loses itself a bit on the dated keyboard timbres. Many preset voices and obvious stock samples. It leaves the impression of being a polished sketch, not a final product. Compare with what Schmölling was making at that time with his trademark sounds. TD was at this time going for a poppy techno sound that many older fans rejected, but we hear the same trend right here in some spots.
@@Enigma758 Right before Jerome came in, the group was going for a mix of Baroque-Classical inspired tunes with plenty of grinding digital harpsichords over fast rock grooves. There were many good compositions but the arrangements were a shadow of the past. It was the Haslinger period and nmany fans dislike it a lot. Strangely enough, Haslinger solo work doesn't sound a bit like TD.
Christopher Franke also did the music for the Babylon 5 tv series and 3 of the movies... I hear a lot of the familiar melodies from the various episode tracks in this one.

Great influence and contribution of Christopher Franke to TD sound. This track is the essence of electronic music.

He did b5 (Babylon 5 music)

Un chef d'oeuvre !

"poppy techno" influence was most likely due to Jerome. Having said that, I like much of Jerome's work.

then Edgar passed away, i start more interesting in Christopher works
This sounds kind of wrong and way too light--is this a reworked track?

De qué año es esta pieza???
1993
sorry guys, yes, relaxing (boring) but like thousands of bedroom compositors we can find on internet. signed : an TD fan for more of 40 yeas
I'd rather listen to Klemania than Rockoon and Turn Of The Tides from the same era. After Franke left, TD were mostly done, in my opinion.
