Even beyond that, the physicality of the level design is great. The fact that they didn’t rely on floating platforms and instead made the levels feel like authentically real places is something I’ve really appreciated about this game in retrospect.
I absolutely detested the boss in Slime Time (17:14) until I figured out that the strategy is basically to do what the runner here does. Great game, amazing memories, thanks for this upload!
Got the platinum for this game cos it looked fun. Took me about 5 hours. Thought id look up a speedrun. Realised it coulda been done in the time it takes me to blink apparently. Holy shit man
One of the best licence based games I ever played and a childhood fav. Never 100 percented it because I suck as a gamer. I loved seeing someone speedrun it this well.
A couple weeks ago I was chilling with my three siblings. We played the hell out of this game on the N64 together so we got used to watching other people play. Long story short, nothing to watch, someone suggested watching playthroughs of old games and this was one. My sister has never watched a speedrun before so it was hillarious seeing her so peeved off that some one like you could pull of some of the crazy shit you did here. Happy to say we watched you from start to finish so you made a good sibling memory. Props to you man and keep speedrunning!
I played the pc version back in the day with my sisters when it was showcased on all the stores. Needless to say you just unlocked some beautiful memories with this! Still to this day this game is just a masterpiece! The soundtracks, the mapping, the gameplay. Thanks sir! Congratulations on your Speedrun!
I just beat this game last night and doing the part where you have to climb the fire escapes took me like 25 mins to complete because I kept missing the wires Watching you climb up it no problem WITHOUT a grappling hook kinda just pissed me off lol good shit man
The amount of memory and precision it takes to pull this off is utterly insane. How are your hands not completely cramped from constantly navigating for so long? You make it look so easy. Wow, just incredible to watch!
Damn I didnt know that there are this many shortcuts to complete the levels. It's amazing to see your childhood game which is 25yo get mastered like that. It gives you this feeling that despite you beat the game, you still didn't know shit about it
Great run :D Cant tell how many times I beat this game as a kid, so seeing some skips in this blew my mind (like skipping locking character in place during dialogs) amazing ^^
Also just noticed, the game clearly expects you to have the Grappling Hook in Allies and Gully's when you're high up, the fact it's not boxed up at 14:40 is kinda interesting Also, what were you pressing to fire the laser so quickly in Slime Time, I don't see any presses on your controller during the fight (aside from movement)
Bro had to backtrack to Andy’s Neighborhood but managed to complete both Alleys and Gullies and Al’s Toy Barn without the required gadgets in one try 😂😭😭
Dude loses .002 seconds on the stairs. “That was ass.” Oooh he’d fucking beat the shit out of me if he saw how long it took me to get up the stairs on my first play through 2 days ago.
So many times throughout the run I watched and laughed at how simple to skips seemed to you, that single jump to kick off Alleys and Gullies vertical segment, rocket booting to the end of Path B in Toy Barn, and god knows what you did to Slinky's challenge on Tarmac Trouble but it was great! GGs Edit: Wait wait wait... Did skipping the menu after Blacksmith cause the text to glitch out at the start, allowing you to skip the course??
Yo, nice! That puzzle used to be such a headache too, top class skip, I'd imagine it's quite fiddly to get the timing right if you aren't practiced in speedrunning (like I'm not) Still cool to know it's a thing you can do tho, cheers for the link ❤️
Hey Solarson! Can you explain to me why my savefile of this game reads "TOY STORY 2:TOK01:00 1 BLOCK USED" What the hell does ":TOK01:00" mean?? And what does "1 BLOCK USED" mean?? For the record i didnt do anything except beat that race. And im playing the ps1 port on ps4.
@@Number1Tailsfan Yeah I already figured it out back then. Pizza Planet Tokens, of which there are 50 (5 per level), so a complete save would say TOK50. The last two digits are simply the number of the savefile. Whenever you make a save or overwrite a save, it's numbered with the lowest number not currently in use.
Try downloading the PC version and seeing if that works, if it doesn't then you can always play on N64 Emu which should run perfectly on all devices. *Link:* docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KtduYDKLRJLKsiHkslPNmHeG-xNHhV72kkLeiAwyWCE
I wouldn't be able to tell you. I can't really give an estimate since there's a lot of practice and testing that's time spent not necessarily doing runs.
How those the triple jump work in the alley and Al's toy barn work? The one you yoused to get to clown top boss fight and one of the ducks and chickens? I wanted to try it, but I wanted to make sure it's right.
They are not quite triple jumps. They are double jumps followed by a Buffer Jump which allows you to double jump Mid-Air again as if you touched the ground due to landing on a weird collision that we call "Shadow Boxes". It's tricky to explain this in RUclips comments so join the Discord if you need any help: discord.gg/Tdc66WEy4H
Many of the changes in N64 ports of games like this are because cartridges had less space than disks. They had to figure out which things to cut or change to make it fit
@@Solarson See it now. Why did you skip over it initially? It's possible to beat rc without the rocket boots, it's just about 10x harder than in level 1 :)
The level design of Toy Story 2 is top tier. Such an underrated design of exploration and mystery.
Even beyond that, the physicality of the level design is great. The fact that they didn’t rely on floating platforms and instead made the levels feel like authentically real places is something I’ve really appreciated about this game in retrospect.
The music in this game is also awesome
Traveler's Tales always made top tier levels even back in the Sega Genesis days
"I Hate this Controller" Proceeds to 100% WR
Actually made me die laughing starting out the WR video that way, so perfect haha
most world records are made by PC gamers i always notice that.
Toy Story 2 - 100% & No Damage (50 Token) Speedrun is?
2:27 Damageless?
8:28 Damageless?
41:54 Damageless?
43:35 Damageless?
46:11 Final Damageless?
So many times throughout this run you were like, "dead run" and "prety much dead." Then proceeds to set a new WR! Love it
I can't tell you how many hundreds of hours me and my sister sunk into this game. Seeing it routed so beautifully is amazing
Same. This game kicked my butt as a kid (never made it out of Alleys and Gullies), so it's extra special to see it shredded.
@@proudtexan8521 we made it out of alley's and gullies, but it took us a LONG time. That level was hard
@@leftysheppey No kidding! Its kind of insane how hard a lot of the '90s Disney games were (cough lion king cough) considering their target audience.

I'm happy people have gathered some interest with the addition of the PSN trophies. 😀
Wait...there's trophies??
I take it they're not on the PS Vita version, as I played it this week gone and saw nothing...
@@LazarouDave yeah the os5 version has them. I've got the plat lol
Bro, I forgot to mention how clean your run is. Every movement is optimize to a tee.
Was just playing this game on my modded PsVita. Absolutely loved it back then and now. GG Man.
The soundtrack to the airport has no right to be this good 😮
Love to see a childhood game get the attention it deserves
You know how everyone knows where they were when 9/11 happened? Yeah.

This is lore accurate buzz lightyear gameplay

DAMN Al's Penthouse has such great music playing in the background, easily the greatest
Toy Story 2 on pc was my first ever game. Twenty years later and I'm still nowhere near your level of expertise. Cool dude, cool.

I use keyboard (spacebar) for Slime Time because I find it easier to mash than controller.
Idk how many times ive watched this video before going to sleep

TOK means token. The left part represents how many tokens you have. I don’t know about the right part, possibly how many hours you spent.
