Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons and events of History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about The Fall of Constantinople, a pivotal event in world history that took place in 1453. This marked the end of the Byzantine Empire, which had stood as a powerful Christian state for over a thousand years. The city, strategically located and heavily fortified, faced a relentless two-month siege by the Ottoman Empire, led by Sultan Mehmed II. Utilising advanced artillery, including massive cannons, the Ottomans finally breached the city’s walls.
Despite the heroic efforts of Emperor Constantine XI and his defenders, Constantinople was vastly outnumbered, and pleas for Western reinforcements went largely unanswered. Internal struggles and scarce resources further weakened the Byzantine defence. On the final day of the siege, the Ottomans stormed the city, bringing an end to the Byzantine era.
The fall of Constantinople reshaped the geopolitical landscape. It marked the rise of the Ottoman Empire as a dominant force and led to significant shifts in trade and culture. Additionally, many Greek scholars fled to Western Europe, sparking intellectual revival and contributing to the Renaissance.

You didn't mention who were the Ottomans. They were people from central Asia and very similar to Mughals. Similarly you didn't mention who were the Byzantine? They were mostly Greeks and Romans.
