Matter of perception, really. You're 100% right that we made toothpaste taste like mint because it's a strong flavor that can cover up nearly everything else. But many people correlate that mint flavor with just toothpaste and toothpaste is not food. The true crime here is parents who give mint toothpaste to children.

I'd like to know where all these people are getting Mint Chocolate flavored toothpaste. My god, I would've brushed my teeth a dozen times a day if the toothpaste I had when I was young tasted like mint chocolate chip.
I do not get the "anything slightly mint flavored = medicine/toothpaste" camp. Then again, they are also usually the same people that dislike Dr. Pepper, so they are incomprehensible to me.

I love how some of the Holomems call the taste of mint as "Toothpaste flavor" like it's a mainstream thing
A good amount of toothpaste has mint flavor in it. It's like the default flavor after the original one
I don't know a single adult toothpaste that isn't mint flavor other than the ones for niche conditions like dental sensitivity and gum care toothpaste, child toothpaste tends to be cherry, strawberry or lemon flavored.
Sure, the majority of toothpaste is mint flavoured... but not CHOCOLATE mint flavoured.
All that response tells me is that people who call chocolate-mint "toothpaste flavour" have never brushed their teeth.

Yeah, Mint Chocolate Team go! :D I even had these Mint Chocolate Cookies from Aldi's that were sort of like Girl Scout Thin Mints. :? Well... they were okay, but I didn't hate them. :p I like Aldi's stuff. :? Some of it is kind of cute and quirky to me. ^^; Like I had this weird St. Patrick's style of Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream that was kind of like Bluebell or any other type of Mint ice cream but I think it was like... it had chunky cookie bites in it, so it might have even been a bit better. :?
Sigh... I wish I could have more seasonal/holiday treats, their yummy. :p It's kind of funny how you can even get funky seasonal stuff even for non-food things though like Febreeze/Glade. ^^; I like the oddly sweet smell of pumpkin spice and apple cider ones or whatever compared to the normal ones. :p

As a kid I didn't like Mint Chocolate-- BUT as I got older, I definitely learned to appreciate it much more, whether it was in Ice Cream form or in other sweets! Absolutely is a Yay from me, and one of my favorite flavors alongside things like strawberry and cherry.
I still don't understand the toothpaste thing some people say though... Some toothpaste has mint in it, yeah, but it's still a different taste than mint choco.
