      Aww thanks Bruce! It goes both ways. I'm slightly envious of how you get to get out and experience more real life instead of standing a bench. That said, watching how you can basically see what's going on in a pipe just by the feel is pretty damn impressive. If I ever get over to visit my cousin in AUS(she married a nice aussie fella), I will have to see if I can get to Perth. I know she's far (Melbourne) but if I am in the country, I will figure it out!

    Can't believe the build up of dust in this machine, but can see why. The testing at the end, the picture was upsidedown so I guess it was ceiling mounted and once it's set up correctly it's never touched again.....until something goes wrong.
    Nice n easy, strip and clean out a final test and its done.....it certainly beats hours of fault finding and head scratching. Nice one Frank. 👍😁

      I like these repairs a lot. Means the owner has nothing to be immediately concerned about, and it attests to the build quality. The fellow who sent it to me, bought it used a few months ago, doubt it was ever cleaned.

    Never had the projector itself but instantly recognised the lamp. It uses a UHP 280-300w E21.8 lamp if I remember correctly. Job's a good 'un meaning great job.

    Hey Frank,
    Thanks for your help with my Benq W2000 projector.
    I uploaded 3 videos today with updates etc...
    Colour wheel looks sound 🤞
    New lamp assembly has yellow green glass.
    Looking for a OSRAM bulb as per original.
    When I get a new bulb we give an update.

      I just saw it! Perfect angles. It was wise to return that for sure. It is a straight knock off. If you have not already sourced another, I suggest this seller.
      I know him and he's a good bloke. www.ebay.co.uk/str/panoramatic Make sure your replacement has a proper Osram bare lamp and the coating as you know. the wire coating is nice but I have seen OEM(other models) that are similar but skip the covering. It is preferred but not required.
      Please let me know how it turns out. I bet your video's will help the next person with this issue.

    The amount of dust in this thing.......... Quick question Frank..... Is it necessary to replace the thermal paste/pad on the DMD heatsink after a certain amount of time/lamp replacements just for precaution or not? Anyway, excellent cleanup there my friend!

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Brother!! My personal opinion is 'don't fix it if it ain't broken' or 'less is more'. Sometimes taking something apart to that level can open a can of worms. I would only do that if I was already going to be removing the DMD. If not, I would likely leave it as is. It depends on the situation as well. If the DMD is happy, I'd leave it alone.

      @@FixitFrank Thanks man! I am at the same boat with you. I hear all the time "repaste your CPU every 4 months" while my 2011 iMac 27'' has never been repasted and temps are the same, 11 years after I bought it (granted I dust the beast every 1500 hours) . Your opinion values more of course!

    Hi Frank, my friend in shining armor. Got my hands on a JVC NX7 finally. Been trying my hand at why it doesn't start, like at all. No indicator lights, no start up whirr. Nothing. I realise it's gonna be something major probably, I'm thinking powerboard issue. Having a hard time getting a hand on spare parts though to it. Is that something JVC doesn't do openly and if not, any shot anywhere else you usually look? You helped me out before and I'm falling in love with projector repairs one step at a time

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад +1

      Dang, an NX7 is sweet. Very nice score! I would start at the mains supply. No power is better than 'some power' in my opinion. Check the mains fuse, then any low value resistors. Also scan the power supply for anything labeled Fxxx(x being a number). There are sometimes more than one fuse. Check to see if there is a thermal breaker. Sometimes it is over the lamp-well. It will have a small button you can push in to reset.
      Essentially I would start at the mains, then start tracing the DC power until it stops. I bet you find an open fuse or other protection device. I don't think the NX7 has a mains interrupt with the lamp door. I would check that door switch to see if its tied into the mains or if its just low voltage reporting to the mainboard.

      @@FixitFrank Hi frank! Back at it again. I'm almost as busy as you are nowadays haha. I was an idiot before for two reasons. It's a much older JVC, an X700R. (I get confused with how they translate american and European names of their models).
      Secondly my power cable was straight up bad. New one in and bobs your uncle, ELECTRICITY. Now what I'm seeing is red, blinkning orange, red.
      That is Standby/on = Red. Lamp = orange flashing (about 0.5sec intervals). Warning = Red. From an older Internet manual it points to a lamp issue so followed that lead and I got myself a new lamp. Same result ironically. Now I'm no Frank so I though perhaps you could have a thought on the matter. Perhaps a lead. I really am a big fan of how JVC makes creatures of art. Perhaps it'll have to be one expensive paperweight decoration hmm

    I've got 2 of these projectors and I've got problems with both. 1 of them stopped showing color and the other one keeps blowing lamps only after 30 mins to an hour of use. Could really use some help figuring them out as they are very good projectors

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад +1

      Hi Jason, The no color is probably a shattered color wheel. the exploding bulbs is almost certainly a clogged up blower fan like this one. When a bulb explodes its because its too hot. Same with a color wheel shattering. If you clean out the dust, I bet you are good to go to replace the color wheel on the one and not have exploding bulbs in the other.

    Great video. I got my unit all cleaned out but I am stuck at the re-assembly of the 1st side plate, 33;37 of your video. Is there a trick to getting this to "pop on". The video kind of skips over it.
    UPDATE: Well, I finally figured out to take the back off and install the side 1st. However, once re-assembled nothing lit up. Frustrating. The unit was working ok, sortof, it was cutting out and shutting down. I assume cause of heat buildup which is why I wanted to clean it.
    Anyways, Would you look at it if I shipped it to you?

    Hi sir, greetings.
    I have Epson s31 projector. Standby voltage on motherboard is 12volts. And on releasing standby the voltage on same pin rises to 17volts. And upon disassembling the projector smps mentions 17 volts on the same pin . How come it be possible for the same pin to maintain two different voltage before and after standby release?. Thanks

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад

      I ran into that with a 2150. The issue seems to be due to a bad regulator on the mainboard. Check for an SOIC8 package regulator on the mainboard that is on the same circuit as the 17v. It should be 17v all the time. The 12v could be indicating a bad secondary regulator.

      Hi, good morning. What I learnt from service engineer is that there is no auxiliary binding on sm transformer for pfc voltage. Rather the output voltage that goes to motherboard itself is used for pfc . And once pfc circuit works voltage rises .
      And if I can get more from you on the topic will be welcome.
      Thanks.
