The food is so interesting and unique in Nepal, I’ve never seen any dishes like those on the internet before. Pretty cool Luke
Thanks a ton Angie!
Thank you Luke for visiting our village and promoting it. We would love to have you one more time
Mouth watering and can't wait to experience Nepal at the end of September 🇮🇪🇳🇵
@Skelvive BH
you can experience different festivals at the end of September 2023.
Bro, I don't think the reason is they cannot afford it. The old people choose to remain eco-friendly and more into sustainable development. Those old stone grinders are more sustainable rather than using the modern-day grinders which are made out of plastic and run on electricity. Also, those plates made out of leaves (which are widely used in South-Asian countries) are easily degradable. 0% harm to the environment. About the Newari platter, you also made me curious about why it is served cold😅. Maybe it's because back then they only used to cook two times a day. As there was no gas and electricity, they used firewood as we could see them using still now. And it's a very tedious job to burn the firewood unlike today's instant stove or whatever we are using. So maybe that's how they continued to serve us cold But I guess now we can heat it🙂
Only the stuff with the gravy is served hot, and plastic plates are way cheaper than the leaves except they're not bio degradable
Yes . Wishing that plastic etc was never invented.
@@care4animals114 without plastic , super stores will go empty
@@ankushzap not if they use their imagination and other resources eg hemp products and so many other natural ways.
Actually thats a newari snack set its serve cold except the potato bamboo shoot soup..
Great vlog, love your honesty😊 it's ok to not like certain dishes. You gave it a try
Amazing. Those are some extreme foods. Liking and not liking is personal preferences but liked that you appreciated everything because it's tradition and culture.. Keep exploring Luke.
It is so delicious food. Thank you for exploring our Nepalese food and traditional cultural. (Luke Martin❤️)
Absolutely loved this content 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow . Heard amazing stuffs about Nepali. Thinking to visit soon
I'll explain why we make two different end shapes on the Yomaris. As you know, there are two fillings. So each filling yomari has its own unique end shape. Both kinds of yomaris are put together inside the same steamer, so it is easier to distinguish which is which when they have two distinct forms.
Luke thanks for sharing this video at least I know something about Nepal now, especially about their food and culture.
I liked how real you were in this video keep up the great work 👍 👏
Cheers from Canada
Thanks 👍
thanks for the cool food video
Glad you enjoyed it
Well, not all dishes served hot but those you have are tastier when served cold. Yet it is the tongue you have that says other ways….obviously different culture different taste…different ways. Hope you enjoy your stay and have a wonderful time. Thanks again for the support.
wowh thanks for showing the authentic content to all the world .

Luke, that was one of your best videos, nine out of ten in my books. You were totally honest on your views of Nepal. I especially like your encouragement to those who would like to travel there and experience their culture.
Thanks Ken!
Wow amazing bro
Kudos for attempting Sapumhicha! I was scared myself of that thing all my childhood, I think i had burnt my mouth once so never dared to try it again.
Love from Nepal, you’re doing great enjoy ❤
I've experienced all of these before but it's just that your videos are so entertaining.
Fair judgment haha. I grew up with these food, so i absolutely love it ! Even my friends who are not Newars have hard time getting used to these. Most of these are acquired taste!
Fair enough!
So good to see you in Nepal.
I love your videos Mr.Martin keep up the great content because you certainly bring us to smile.
I like your honest review❤
Thank you for visit nepal
watching from nepal.
Really enjoyed your video but I must say as a Nepalese, life in Nepal is not hard/harsh. Yes, the corruption is there, infrastructures isn’t up to the mark, and our economy does rely on tourism but life in Nepal is laid back. One member can sustain the family of 4,5 and most of us have roof on our head, food on our plate. We do not spend our life paying mortgage or taxes working 9-5 like a robot. People have free time to enjoy life and most of us doesn’t count happiness on the basis of materialistic things.
Agree with this!
I agree! As a Nepali Australian, I am going back to Nepal with one way ticket on 6 Dec with Nrn visa to Nepal. I love Australia but there is an emptiness I have been feeling for the last few years. I wanna live at this point in my life where I will know who my neighbour is 😅, I can eat authentic foods, wake up with people talking to each other n of course my family.
Love your honesty
Welcome to Nepal..Martin 🤗 thank u for promoting khokna.. place

Beautiful show
Nice video and liked it. Wanted to comment on few thing so here we go.
A lot of people in the video could easily afford a electric grinder but they chose to do it traditionally because they feel comfortable with it as they have been doing for over 50-60+ years of their lives. As for lungs and sahpu mhicha, these are super traditional food and even a Newar teenager will find it alien and difficult to eat it. And yes, it’s not always appetising to see how food are prepared or how the food looks before they are cooked. All the food you were served are cold because those are snacks (khaja) rather than main course, and many mains and soups too are served cold such as paun kwa. They all are cooked well but left to rest until they return to room temperature before serving. It’s the way they are served, like sushi or tartare are served cold.
Very nice informative videos. Keep going.
Newari food is love💝💝❤️🔥🌹🌹

I also wouldn't go for 4 weeks old freezer burned meats diabetes burgers in the west but i love that the locals enjoy it there :) I'll survive it I'm sure! 😂
@@whitneylj90 well said. Western food = cancer
dude life is not that tough like you said my man just becouse they are living in a diffrent ways than yours doesn't mean its tough many nepalese are way happier even with the limited things they have than the west who have everything and still sad
Also they definitely had the Leisure of cooking in gas. They cooked in mud stove just for you Luke because you wanted authenticity.

Beaten rice is eaten extensively in India and is called Poha when moistened with water when washed and sauteed with vegetables . It is called 'chivda' when dry. Dry one can be made into a snack when fried in oil and mixed with spices, peanuts, green chilies and roasted grams. It is eaten Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Orissa, West Bengal, Eastern UP, Bihar and many other places. It is eaten mixed with yogurt or fresh curds, with jaggary, with milk and sugar. I am surprised Luke never saw or even heard about it while travelling in India !

you can mix the soup in that bowl in baji (beaten rice), if you think beaten rice is too dry. We normally do that in our feast, especially with meat soup.
we call it maso ko jhol, or dyaku la
Looks att the bright side. You will be the next Antony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmerman....lol
Greetings from T.O 🇨🇦
21:03 is called Nyakhuna. It is a jelly made up of alot of masala and small fish like anchovies. Nya from the word means fish in Newari

Luke, beaten rice is eaten in India. Usually they are thouroughly washed in fresh water and after tadka, onions fried, with peas and sweetcorn or any vegetable of your choice is added and cooked, roasted peanuts, salt and sugar, washed beaten rice is added and thouroughly mixed. Grated coconut is added, lime/lemon juice added to your taste. Switch off flame. This is eaten as tiffin.
The only time raw beaten rice is eaten is when powdered jaggery, grated coconut, ground cardomom, and mashed ripe bananas are all mixed together.
