The music video feels like it was made by an old folks' home and its staff members. I love it.

A forgotten piece of genius work. Everything here is sampled from previous recordings and melded together seamlessly. None of the actors are actually vocalizing their parts.

I think most of the string arrangement is from Lawrence of Arabia if I'm not mistaken

That was completely nuts! Loved it. Just read it came out in 2000.

I'm old enough to remember the title and some of the samples come from USA comedians Wayne and Shuster's audio sketch - Frontier Psychiatrist (1959).
This recording I found in 2014. As you say, it s a real work of art.
The Avalanches are Australian. The band's genre is called "plunderphonics".

Wayn4 and Schuster are Canadian comedians. Though they appeared on Ed Sullivan a heck of a lot.

@@camerondempster4147 My bad. I was only a kid when I heard them on the radio around then in NZ.

Plunderphonics is a good name for the genre. I sometimes called it an "auditory collage" because of its use of various samples to make something new.

@@taradresbach4684 "auditory collage" is a good description. I have heard a great one with old WWII doco samples about the fighter planes, but I can't find it now.

This is my new favorite song. It makes me happy. It doesn't remind me of my past or look to the future. I'm just in the present. The kissy face the drummer does is everything!

A work of genius and total insanity. The rest of the album this track is on - "Since I left you" - is tremendous. Has given me much listening pleasure since i picked it up waaaayy back in 2001.

As the Dutch rap group Def Real already stated: sampling is an art form, and surely not stealing.

There's a great video that shows where all the samples are from and how they were put together to create this. Just do a YT search for "Deconstructing Avalanches Frontier Psychiatrist".

A pet hate I have with RUclipsr reaction videos is when they focus on reacting to a music video insteading of listening to and reacting to the actual song.
No such crime commited here. Listening to this song with such a suberbly shot video is as you say "a complete piece of art".

If you're into dance music i suggest listening to the full album, frontier phycologist is actually quite out of character for the duo. The actual story behind the song is also pretty funny

I love watching people discover new musical joy and Avalanches deliver 100%. PLEASE watch other vids from them. You will not be disappointed in the slightest. “Frankie Sinatra”, “Since I left You” and others.
