Sorry for the triple comment but I wanted to mention Luffy. He doesn't listen to backstories, not because he doesn't care, but because it doesn't matter. To Luffy, the only thing that matters is who you are right now. Nami is his friend and she asked for help and that's all the information he needs.
See he already understands Namis motivations before arlong park. He dosent know her back story fully but she did tell him enough in orange town. The whole pirates killed someone close to me and I'm getting money to buy a certain village. He's smart enough to put 2 and 2 together. Plus the things that happen at the end of the fight. That's all he needed to know. But your right normally he dosent give two fs about who someone was.

11:20 This is the moment when the "Straw Hats" become a crew. Up until that moment, they were just a bunch of individuals with different dreams travelling together. But in this one moment, they all put their dreams aside and unite to fight. All to save a friend in need.
I see it more as him knowing that hearing her backstory wouldn't change anything. He's going to save her, he's just waiting for her to ask her captain for help. What would hearing it do, make him want to help her more? It'd just confirm what he already understands: She wants to help this village and she can't do it alone. But until she asks for help, she'll never accept it. And since he's not leaving without his Navigator, he's going to wait until she does ask for it.
Nami's voice acting is God tier this episode. Its easily one of the best performances by a VA of all time in my opinion🔥
Yeah that pain and range of cries and screams was good tier
What's great is that every single one of the Straw Hats gets an emotional moment like this that the VA absolutely kills. This crew is voiced by some talented people!

A lot of people never seem to give credit to Jonny and Yosaku when they went to fight Arlong, they literally didn't even interact with Luffy or anyone else but still had faith that the Strawhats would show up. They just heard Nami's backstory and immediately went to try and fight Arlong XD Fucking love those 2.
Luffy doesn’t have common sense but his emotional intelligence is second to none. He’s not afraid to show that he’s dumb in a lot of areas but isn’t one to brag about stuff he’s good at either so he comes off as dumb. Instead, his intellect shines through his actions. Luffy can see who is a real one and who isn’t, whether it is choosing a crew member or choosing the right opponent to fight - he don’t miss.
He really don’t miss at all Lmao

I think it's totally fair to binge. In fact i think it's better. This show is so good sometimes that you just can't hold back. Even if you still keep the same upload schedule feel free to watch them in bursts of like even 20 episodes. I know i do when i watch it lol.

I too am a HUGE naruto fan. Started with dragon ball with my cousin at 5, and watched naruto with my other cousins at 12 or so. Naruto was the first full anime I caught up to and finished. An when the One Piece Netflix show was announced I made a joke to my fiance we should watch the anime of one piece because we had watched several shows together and finished them all, some were animes (she grew up on dragon ball from her dad as well). So one day I sat us down and I started the show without telling her, just hit play and said "this is it". Were around 560 in right now, and fuck was it worth it. The very first episode made me like the show because it reminded me so much of dragonball as a kid, but these episodes were when I said "alright I'm hooked, I'm guna catch up before this ends". The walk to arlong park is the equivalent to naruto showing up to fight pain, and this is only 37 episodes in. Fucking wow
Honestly yeah this arc really just shows how far developed they already are as a team and there still no where near full potential vs naruto we watched from the ground up but even ep1 of OP Luffy already knocking Mfs out like whaattt lmao I love the writing 🔥🏴☠️

Yeah nami asking luffy to help her and the walk to arlong park might be the most cited turning point when people talk about what made them stick with one piece. Its still one of the best scenes but there are just so many, oda simply knows how to build to pivotal moments. Glad you're enjoying the ride.

Once you've encountered some fierce new enemies and are shown what's going on at a global scale, you can look back to this time in the East Blue and it will seem almost tiny in comparison, the time before the world knew who Straw Hat Luffy is.

Every time someone asks me if One Piece is good, I tell them that this episode is the thesis of the whole series. It's a big ask to say something doesn't get going for 37 episodes, and if they don't like the previous ones then that's fair. And there are earlier moments, that are on a similar theme to this one. But if they like the show well enough to get to this point, this *legend* of a moment will absolutely cement this show as one of the best anime of all time. It's so powerful and well done.

yo another person starting one piece. hope you like it cause i started the manga for it june of 2023 and finished it about late october and now its one of my favorite series of all time and just got to episode 275(for those who know yall know whats comin up) and it feels as if im watching it right after school(technically i am but that feeling when your younger) and enjoying it every step of the way. hope you continue to enjoy it till the very end especially since next arc is an absolute 8-9/10 arc.

Episode 37 is still one of the greatest episodes in the entire series. However, it’s not the only. There’s so many others that stand alongside it as some of the best parts of the entire series. Oda does not stop cooking. The latest manga chapters are proof of that.

What I witnessed with watching and then reading weekly One Piece, is the growth of a great cook to a Michelin star level of a chef, as Oda is preparing dinner every week for all of us at the highest level.

There’s so much to go over, as Episode 36 is one of my favorite episodes in the entire show. So I’ll just make a list.
-Nami’s VA absolutely kills it, in both the sub and the dub.
-Luffy giving Nami his hat like “This can defy so much emotional trauma!” Just further showing how much he trusts her, despite everything.
-Johnny and Yosaku being absolute bros for immediately going to fight the Arlong Pirates, and when they couldn’t beat them, they became the ultimate hype men for the Straw Hats. Their speech to the villagers is forever ingrained in my mind.
-THE WALK. This is the first of many, and all of them are badass.
-Luffy busting down the door and asking “Which one of you is Arlong?” is both badass AND hilarious, because is just a cool thing to say, and because Luffy legitimately has no idea what Arlong looks like.

as a manga reader ive got some crazy news most would assume the series long runtime would mean its definitley fallen off or that it peaked and hasnt been good ever since but the current manga arc is legitamitley one of if not the best arc in the series the arcs continuosly get better and you better remember things even from early on because they always come back later on

oh man, if you thought the Park walk was hype, you are in for a wild ride. The best advice i can give you; the small details matter, even if a scene seems slow, there is usually a reason (outside of TOEI animation time stretching, which will be aggravating at times)

Arlong never broke the agreement if she wouldn’t have blabbed to him that she had the money and just shown up with it arlong would have let her buy the village as agreed he never said he would free her or actively not hinder her getting the money but even if he did let her buy the village i doubt he would let the villagers use the land/water outside of the town essentially laying siege to it without actually attacking or still making them pay tribute

So no spoilers but there's a string of arcs I call the Gauntlet of Pain. I'll comment in the distant future when you inevitably get there just to mark the start of it. Though I've never been able to get past the starter episodes of Naruto , I think something something accept pain, know pain, feel pain?
