That's funny. I took one personal finance class my senior year, and it was by far the easiest math class I've ever taken. Basically applied algebra. But it showed how to calculate interest, budget, and taught students to be financially literate. I didn't learn how to do taxes, but I did learn how to access AZCIS, which is one of my favorite budgeting tools. We learned macroeconomics in economics 😂

I'm 20 years old and you SOOO right!!!! When I went off to college at 17, I felt so bad about myself because I was going to a community college and I wasn't going to a 4-year institution but, now I feel so much better knowing that I'm in my third year of school and owning no money. Another thing, I did when I was 17 is asking my mom to take me to the bank and open a credit card with her. Now that I'm older I thank myself for that, I also plan to open a Roth IRA soon as a gift to myself for my 21 birthday.

Self Control is skill that can be easily learned if one is willing to learn that skill. There are many tools/apps out there to track spending that are free to use that can help you learn how to manage money. Also, if you get a secured card and put money down it's a great safe way to learn how to use credit. If you screw up on a bill the credit card company will use your deposited money to pay the debt off. Good tool to build and learn how to use credit. Finally, if your really set a card for a specific purpose such as using the card for only gas or a subscription and set up automatic payments.

I’m 19 now- from Australia. After graduating high school I worked 100 hours a week and saved 90% I had about 35k saved! It was a great feeling, but I had a reason, I have now moved to NYC and studying at my dream acting school- but after moving here and not working for like 2 months and Setting up my life (as well as exchange rate and bank fees) I had $84 in my bank accomt hahaha (nervous laugh)
But I’ve been watching these vids- started up my photography business over here and I’m back on track

@@eliteking1471 So from 4:30am - 12noon I worked making sushi, then from 12:30pm to 4:30pm I worked in a cafe and then I worked from 5-9:30 at a takeawayshop as a manager. This was most days, on Saturday/Sunday my hours would vary. I just did the taxes for it, it was 35k saved in 8 months, I made about 50k between jan- august when I left for school.
After looking back. I can highly advised against this tho. The toll it took on my mental health was much more than what it was worth. Now that COVID had come through and i've had time to slow down. I realise that deferring a year and saving at a steadier rate while working better hours would've been just as fulfilling without the constant feeling of 'I'm not making enough money" and "I wanna crash into a tree"
But yeah. Very weird time of my life that lead to some of the best experiences I've had so far!

Ah, wish I watched these types of videos when I was in highschool, but graduated 3 years ago and now 22 years old. I've been watching other RUclipsrs about financials and how to become successful in life in like a year ago and now watching this video and I've already done some of the steps here. The only thing I haven't done what you've stated is to invest my money into ROTH IRA, into index funds, however, I did invest in 2 things and they were both cameras in hopes of making a YT channel one day :). I've actually gone to college, but currently took a break from it and started working a full time job, paying off the $10K student debt, got $30K saved up, hoping to run a business one day as well as a RUclips channel. And I don't spend much money on stuff that I don't really need, and I rarely hang out with friends. Thank you for this video Stephen Graham!

Managed to pay off my debt by 2019 and currently have a house and 250k total in investments (combo of profit share, 401k and a brokerage account). I'm not very knowledgeable in investing, so I just have my investing currently in index funds (mainly voo, but have been putting a lot into schd the past few months). I dunno if that's the optimal strategy, but psychologically it is very set it and forget it, and prevents me from obsessing over individual stock performance like you alluded to in your video.

And both are repeating what Ludwig Von Mises wrote from Germany during the Weinmar Republic's hyperinflation. It's called Austrian Economics and you can study it free at Mises.org
....or you can watch the first 4 episodes of "Hidden Secrets of Money" by Mike Maloney who is simply a layman who took an interest in our monetary system and has some well-made youtube videos. Mike Maloney is pro Crypto. Especially the idea of Bitcoin being the new digital gold. But Peter Schiff (along with reading Murray Rothbard) will argue Bitcoin is nothing but modern "Tulip Bulb Speculation". So many successful people who disagree with each other. So you'll have to make up your own mind

Ben J I would suggest first applying to simple office jobs that are not fast food or retail if you havent already (like in a library, post office, as a secretary, assistant, etc). Those usually dont have tons of requirements and hire younger people even with very little experience. If those dont work out, fine then get a retail/fast food job, but do that as a last resort as those are often annoying, dont give that many new skills, and pay less
