I think your sweater looks amazing on you, but if you are unsure about it you could always change the hem ribbing into a split hem. That way you don’t loose the ribbing from the body of the sweater and also means the hem ribbing isn’t so tight fitting.
This is the exact kind of thing that I love about knitting podcasts- seeing other people's creative solutions (and the answer is always in the comments!).
Natalie, your Salty Day Sweather looks so so gorgeous on you!! I think you're so used to cropped tops that wearing an actual sweather is just unusual for you. The length is perfect. Greetings from Belgium
I think your sweater is beautiful and looks great on you, but you have to love the way it looks, so whatever makes you happy, do that. You are so talented, great job!
I think the sweater looks great on you. I think the length is perfect and will probably stretch a little as you wear it. I like longer sleeves and use mine to cover fingers when cold. Lol
The sweater is lovely but I agree that the sleeves are too long. The first thing I noticed when you had it on was that the waist is pulling. It looked nice when you pulled it up to your waist instead of down your hips. Good luck with whatever you choose. It’s so pretty!
I love everything about the salty days sweater!! 😍 I think it is super cute on you. I even like how long the sleeves are. I’m so impressed and inspired by your videos, but I’m also super intimidated by knitting.
As a fellow pear, I add about 20 stitches around the bottom evenly before starting my ribbing (depends on gauge) and always have side splits. I don’t like things too short. - About 14 inches from the underarm, but I also don’t like them to grab at the hip. I would just redo your ribbing and split the sides.
Why not try a french tuck for your sweater. that will bring it up from your hips and you wont have to shorten it. I think it look amazing on you as is.
I've made the salty day sweater. I have the same "problem" with sweaters that you have. There is a big difference between my bust and my hips. That's why I decided not to do the ribbing in the tiny needles she suggested. So I just did a regular 1 size needle down for the ribbing and it gives me more ease at the bottom and it doesn't have the mushroom effect. Maybe this would help for you as well.
I think your Salty Days looks incredible on you! Maybe it feels a little different for you since you’re used to more cropped garments. But isn’t this part of the beauty of knitting, that you can adjust as you go and even change things up further down the road if it still feels off. 🙏🏼
I think the sweater length looks great on you and I wouldn’t change it. The sleeves are long but you could always just fold up the sleeve cuff to make it shorter. Love your vlogmas videos , Kent and Toaster too!
I find with non super wash sleeves tend to creep back up!! Wear it for a bit before deciding to take back sleeves. It’s happened to me with a few sweaters!
Natalie, your Salty Days sweater turned out amazing!!! I can't wait to start mine now! I will be referring to your videos again for advice along the way!
Your sweater is beautiful, and looks great on on you! Before you do anything drastic to shorten it, I would try it on with leggings or a bottom that doesn't have pockets. The mushroom effect probably wouldn't be as noticeable if the bottom of the sweater was hanging freely, instead of "catching" on the jeans. It would also be so cute as cozy oversized sweater over leggings! I also have to say thank you for the wonderfully written Winter Magic sock pattern! I would totally be the one who forgets to change to smaller needles, so those friendly pink bubbles are super helpful! I'm also putting my Perfect Fit sock lessons to very good use :-)
I think your sweater looks perfect❤ by not having the same positive ease at the body it looks less baggy and more classy/dressy 😊 perfect for christmas dressup❤ but it's your sweater so you should be the one that loves it😊
your sweater is gorgeous. I understand sizing. I am what they call curvy. If it fits my bust it is way to small for my hips. Now I am going to have to make some fudge. Thanks a lot. Haha
As for your sweater sleeves and hem… personally I love longer sleeves as an alternative to gloves when it’s cold outside! I’m always tugging my sleeves down. And I like the drape you get when you push it back up your wrist a bit. As for the hem: what about a split hem? That would look SUPER CUTE in my opinion!!
I just wanted to say thank you for Vlogmass. I watched several OK more than several over the past few years and I now see some knitters that I follow on RUclips do Vlogmas for the first time. Nobody does it better than you and I literally watched people trying (unsuccessful.). You guys are the best.
Thecsweater looks fine but maybe if you take it out just do the bottom ribbing because that's the part that looks alittle tight maybe go to a size needke or add stitches to it because the top ribbing looks like it fits fine on your hips. Or if you take both out maybe divide the length of both sections in half so you still have both patterns in the sweater
Oh man is that chilli? It looks so good... I wanted to comment on the food shots from the first episode - that video needed a warning, the food looked so good! Thank goodness I'm not watching on an empty stomach this time! 😁 The sweater looks great!
I think Provincial Grey is a color I’ve seen for paint swatches or I’ve heard a DIY furniture restorer/flipper say that color was the paint color they picked for something.
Thanks for sharing your time and your making with us each day. As a Canadian, I feel like I should be gifting Kent’s Mom a kettle to have for your visits.😊
Thanks for showing the fit in such detail! I wish more photos on ravelry showed fit rather than just a sweater hanging up. We all have different body types and the beauty of being a knitter is the ability to customize to our liking. I would suggest walking around the house for a few minutes then looking in the mirror because when you first put it on I think the length looked great. Ie does the 'mushroom' happen naturally or as a result of fiddling? How does it move with your movement?
Hi Natalie! You look great in your sweater, but totally get you need to feel great about it on you. That’s what’s so cool about making our own garments: they can be completely tailored. Love! That pattern is going in my favorites. I wonder if it would lend itself to adding some increases at the hips on the sides….I quite like an a-line shape myself.
I love the length of your sweater! I mean, I really love it. I think it gives you an hourglass figure. Take a look at the video again. I do agree that the sleeve should be a little shorter but what a pain!
Satly days is so pretty! I love the sleeve length! What if you folded the cuff before you reknit? I suggest you wear it and enjoy a few times before reworking. For the body length do a cute half tuck into your jeans waistband
Love the sweater. Could you keep the length and tuck it in? That’s what my daughter does with her sweaters. Love the clips of Disney Springs! My favorite place to shop!
I omitted all of the 2x1 rib on the bottom of my salty days and went straight into the hem and it’s perfect! I have the same bust/hip situation that you do.
Consider waiting before you shorten the Salty Days sleeves because my sleeves always shrink a bit with wear. I think they stretch width-wise at the sleeves and that shortens the arms a bit, especially with non superwash yarn. Just a thought!
I have a similar body type and struggle with ( does this look ok honey syndrome). I really like the way that sweater looks. I agree the sleeves need to be shorter if you don’t like to pull the cuffs over your fingers. Your modeling really makes me want to ale the sweater. It’s gorgeous.
I think the body of your sweater looks perfect on you. I would personally feel like the sleeves were too long and I would shorten them a bit. Cute sweater though!
I think if you're not happy in a garment, as much work as it was to make it, it's worth it to fix it. You carry yourself different when you feel confident. It's beautiful though, but hey we are not all built the same.
Hmmmmm…….. well first off the sweater is absolutely gorgeous!🤩🤩 but as far as the length on the body. I don’t understand how shortening it will help with the ease!? Unless you don’t want to make sweaters that come down to your hip in the future? Or you can go back and maybe add stitches for more ease if you like that length, because I am gathering that you would like the length, if there was more ease there? just some thoughts. The chili looked delicious! Y’all are too adorable!💛
I'm really enjoying your vogmas this year, thanks for sharing your day to day with us! Whats brand of wool tshirts do you have, and do you like them? I have been wanting to get some myself but im not sure which ones to get. TIA
Your Salty Days sweater is beautiful! I agree that you might want to shorten the sleeves a bit. I think the body looks great as is but I do see what you mean and think it'd also look great if you eventually change it--so helpful, I know haha Also, I can't remember if you've mentioned this before, but where do you typically buy your wool t-shirts (if you don't mind sharing)? 😊
I like the length of the sweater but I think you should shorten the sleeves. It’s so cute but I just think they would get in your way throughout the day.
The sweater turned out beautifully! I personally adore the fit on you. However I prefer longer sweaters with extra long sleeves. I think it is extremely flattering on you. Maybe you've just gotten used to wearing more cropped sweaters lately? Not sure?
Thank you for being you Natalie. I made the Salty Days for my daughter and I had exactly the issues with the sleeves growing beyond what is practical and the body being too long too. I didn’t want to undo my Italian bind off (lazy)so I did sweater SURGERY instead. I snipped a stitch in the 3x1 section and took 3” off the sleeves and 2” on the body. I learned to graft Knit row to Purl rows too!! Now it’s perfect and also has that boxy oversized look. Whichever way you do it, reknit or graft, I think you’ll be glad you did. But you can so just wear it for a while and decide later. Lotsa notes in my Ravelry project page.
Personally I love the length on you! It makes a super cute oversize sweater. And I also love extra long sleeves personally, but can totally see why you'd want to shorten them. If I were you I'd leave the sweater as is and wear it the way you had it originally, but take 1/2 the length you added to the sleeves out. Good luck! That's an absolutely GORGEOUS sweater.
I love your videos but vlogmas it' awful, there is a robot voice that translate you to Spanish 😭😭😭 it is something about your settings or it is just me?
I think your sweater looks amazing on you, but if you are unsure about it you could always change the hem ribbing into a split hem. That way you don’t loose the ribbing from the body of the sweater and also means the hem ribbing isn’t so tight fitting.
Natalie - love this idea if you decide to make a change.
I was thinking the same thing! And if it were me, I’d steek the side splits in!
This is such a smart idea!
My thoughts too!
Kent's mom always decorate so beautiful!
Your Salty Days sweater came out REALLY beautiful!!! 😀Happy Vlogmas!
The sweater looks great. Toaster is just such a sweetheart.
I think your sweater is beautiful and looks great on you, but you have to love the way it looks, so whatever makes you happy, do that. You are so talented, great job!
Wow, I love your salty days sweater, Natalie! Absolutely beautiful 😍!!!!! Well done!
The Salty Day sweater turned out beautiful, I love the color you chose. It looks stunning on you!
I think the sweater looks great on you. I think the length is perfect and will probably stretch a little as you wear it. I like longer sleeves and use mine to cover fingers when cold. Lol
The sweater is so cute!!! You've convinced me that I need to knit one!
Oh my! 😍😍😍 I love your Salty Days! Absolutely gorgeous!
The sweater is lovely but I agree that the sleeves are too long. The first thing I noticed when you had it on was that the waist is pulling. It looked nice when you pulled it up to your waist instead of down your hips. Good luck with whatever you choose. It’s so pretty!

I feel the same. Yikes!!
So frustrating that we can’t make a toile like we can in sewing to sort out fit issues before we make a garment. The sweater is gorgeous!
I think the sweater is beautiful and fits you very well!!

100%. Also might try it with a skirt. Kika wears her with a dress/ skirt a lot. Might just be those particular jeans that are throwing you off!

I think the sweater looks great on you. From an outside perspective, I think it minimizes the hips when you wear it over
I had Skyline Chili tonight too! Your sweater turned out great and I think the fit is nice.
Add some side increases as you go into the ribbing on the Salty Days. Or, do a split hem.
Your sweater is beautiful! Toaster is so tolerant with his little kerchief 😂. Nice guess(es) on the color today, Kent!
Natalie, your Salty Days sweater turned out amazing!!! I can't wait to start mine now! I will be referring to your videos again for advice along the way!

I think the sweater will look absolutely fine if you take out a large portion of the bottom and arms and re -rib 👍👍👍
I think your sweater looks perfect❤ by not having the same positive ease at the body it looks less baggy and more classy/dressy 😊 perfect for christmas dressup❤ but it's your sweater so you should be the one that loves it😊

I Love that sweater on you ❤ looks sooo goood !!!!
I agree about the length of the sleeves and the body length of your finished sweater. It’s beautiful, but I think you should shorten both. ❤
We love our aero press, the perfect cup of coffee how we want it each time.
Thecsweater looks fine but maybe if you take it out just do the bottom ribbing because that's the part that looks alittle tight maybe go to a size needke or add stitches to it because the top ribbing looks like it fits fine on your hips. Your sweater is beautiful! Have you considered doing a split hem? I do that on the ribbing of all my sweaters- gives it more drape. Just a thought!
It looks great. I would shorten the sleeves or put a thumb hole in them
Oh man is that chilli? It looks so good... I wanted to comment on the food shots from the first episode - that video needed a warning, the food looked so good! Thank goodness I'm not watching on an empty stomach this time! 😁
The sweater looks great!
I am dying over that Yorkshire mal blanket!! I think it looks amazing in those neons!
I think Provincial Grey is a color I’ve seen for paint swatches or I’ve heard a DIY furniture restorer/flipper say that color was the paint color they picked for something.

I'm thinking the Beauty & the Beast color is maybe related to the dandelions in that scene where she is signing the reprise on the hillside?
I love the length of your sweater! I mean, I really love it. I think it gives you an hourglass figure. Take a look at the video again. I do agree that the sleeve should be a little shorter but what a pain!

I think the sweater looks great!
You should show some of toaster playing with the other pups when you get back to your mom's.
Your sweater looks great on you!
I would manage the shape via folding the ribbing rather than reworking. Although the split hem idea is good too.
Your sweater looks great, I really like the long length on you, it makes you look taller and leaner. Lol jmo!
Hello from Swansea, Illinois. ❤❤❤❤
Love the sweater.
I would French tuck the sweater and leave the sleeves- it looks cozy, comfy and cute!
Consider waiting before you shorten the Salty Days sleeves because my sleeves always shrink a bit with wear. I think they stretch width-wise at the sleeves and that shortens the arms a bit, especially with non superwash yarn. Just a thought!
I've caught up and love your Vlogmas as always! :) Beautiful sweater!
I made a Salty Days sweater and I absolutely love it! I think yours fits nicely.
I have a similar body type and struggle with ( does this look ok honey syndrome). I really like the way that sweater looks. I agree the sleeves need to be shorter if you don’t like to pull the cuffs over your fingers. Your modeling really makes me want to ale the sweater. It’s gorgeous.
I love the sweater as it is. Fold the cuffs up once and call it perfect!
I think the body of your sweater looks perfect on you. I would personally feel like the sleeves were too long and I would shorten them a bit. Cute sweater though!
Awww look at Toaster wearing his little hat 🎅
The sweater is so pretty! It looks great on you!
Thumbholes in the sleeves of the Salty Days?
Your sweater is beautiful. I love the longer sleeves.
What a beautiful sweater.
I think if you're not happy in a garment, as much work as it was to make it, it's worth it to fix it. You carry yourself different when you feel confident. It's beautiful though, but hey we are not all built the same.
The sweater looks great. Maybe take some out of the sleeve length but I think the body looks great & I wouldn’t touch that part.

You look great in it good job
I love your Salty Days sweater❤. I wouldn’t change anything! And I really want to make one now.
Also, where do you purchase your wool t-shirts?
I love your rant over do you like it or not lol
My opinion would be to shorten the sweater by omitting the ribbing above the lace. But honestly it's what you want because it looks good as is.
I'm really enjoying your vogmas this year, thanks for sharing your day to day with us! Whats brand of wool tshirts do you have, and do you like them? I have been wanting to get some myself but im not sure which ones to get. TIA
I think the sweater is perfect as is.
I have the same body type as you so I know the struggle. But I think the sweater looks great on you as is!
Your sweater is gorgeous!

When you work, what is it that you’re doing?
I like the length of the sweater but I think you should shorten the sleeves. It’s so cute but I just think they would get in your way throughout the day.
Toaster! ❤
4 way, 2 cheese coneys and a coke. Thank you! ttfn
My vote on Salty Days is shorten the sleeves and leave the body length as is.
The sweater turned out beautifully! I personally adore the fit on you. However I prefer longer sweaters with extra long sleeves. I think it is extremely flattering on you. Maybe you've just gotten used to wearing more cropped sweaters lately? Not sure?
I would make a thumb hole in the sleeve! Otherwise the sweater looks great as is!
Your sweater is beautiful! It looks good on you 😍
I think it fits great... love longer arms and longer body
It’s looks great but the split hem comment might work perfectly
