- A video on the Wiederline, the local line between Leer, Germany and Groningen, the Netherlands where no train traffic is possible any more since 2015. An update about the current situation on this route as it is in August 2020.
In the video, I'll show the railway station of Leer, Weener, the busses and trains on this route and I'll tell you more about the situation with the railway bridge.

Apart from that I like that you cover lesser known train lines mainly local ones not many tourists or other trip reporters do I really like that and also the drone views
Well the aim for this channel is international and / or long distance train travel, as long as it fits in these themes it's fine.
@@Trainviking thats great hopefully you will be able to do more international trains in 2021 although it seems like we will have to stick to europe for now and hopefully 2022 or 23 travel outside of europe
I think it is a real pity that the bridge will only be one railway track. How the guy missed the bridge, the Dutch saying Drank maakt meer kapot dan je lief is.
I use Leer as a good start for my travels. Like to the isle of Nordeney, Köln, Saarburg, Leipzig etc. You can also easily take the train to Hannover to connect to the Nightjet to München or Innsbruck.
Onbegrijpelijk dat Duitsland zich verzet tegen uitbouw naar dubbelspoor. Die lijn heeft een veel groter potentieel dan enkel Groningen - Leer - Bremen.
Met enkele, relatief goedkope infrastructuuraanpassingen, heb je een nieuwe logische route tussen Amsterdam, Noord-Nederland, Noord-Duitsland en verder naar Scandinavië.
Absoluut, daarom wilde ik hier ook een video over maken. Nou is het wel handig om dingen een beetje te nuanceren want het Nederlandse deel is voor een groot deel ook enkelspoor en deze lijn komt vlak na de brug uit op een dubbelsporige elektrische lijn. Omdat het Nederlandse deel ook niet elektrisch is en er geen hybride treinen zijn in Nederland zou dit als doorgaande verbinding naar Scandinavië wel een uitdaging zijn. Wat denk ik beter zou zijn, is de capaciteit uitbreiden bij Gronou en / of Venlo. Voor goederenvervoer is dit wel een perfecte corridor, geen idee in hoeverre goederenvervoer voorheen over deze lijn ging.
Correct het is ontzettend dom ze snijden zichzelf gigantisch in de vingers en kijken niet naar de voordelen van de wunderline in Nederland kan hij aangesloten worden op de aankomende Lelylijn naar Amsterdam en vanaf Duitsland kan er een vertakking komen Naar Denenmarken en scandinavie aan de andere kant door richting Polen enz.
Amazing. 20 years ago there was only 3 trains a day between Groningen and Leer.
That is progress. Doesnt stop it from being crazy that there is not enough priority by fixing the situation.

Thank you, I guess from Groningen train to bus station won't ne it for now. Especially because of the huge renovation of Groningen railway station. However if that's finished, I most likely will feature Groningen railway station again.
Nicely done review! Just one small thing - in English we usually say train seats, car seats, not chairs (chair is more for the furniture that can be moved around the house)

Ik heb me altijd al afgevraagd waarom de nieuwe brug niet gelijk dubbelsporig is. Na je uitleg nu helder. Echt ontzettend jammer want ik geloof dat de vraag tussen groningen en bremen en vice versa veel zal stijgen (zeker als de lelylijn er wel komt en deze ook voor extra reizigers zal zorgen) en men op een gegeven moment spijt zal hebben. Goeie video! Als Groningse treinfanaat vind ik het leuk video’s in mijn buurt te zien! Hopelijk gauw weer een nieuwe video in Groningen:)
Ik denk ook dat de vraag enorm groeit met een directe trein. Al is de huidige overstap ook prima (met of zonder bus). Mensen zien overstappen als een obstakel, niet geheel terecht, daarom laat ik in mijn video's vaak ook, zien hoe de stations er uitzien:).

Nice mix between a bus and train report it is a shame about the railway bridge I know fixing or rebuilding a bridge takes alot of time and also the money paid for them by either taxpayers/local/régional or government authorities but I do believe they should have tried to build a new bridge earlier

It's a pretty informative Video, you've made, but I've got two questions:
1) Is it senseful to buy an ov-chipkaart for one or two days?
2) how much does the traveling to Groningen cost?

For single trips it doesn't make sense to buy an ov chipkaart, it will slowly be phased out in the future. You can buy train tickets online via www.ns.nl, print them or show them in the NS app on your smartphone.

Interessant, obwohl ich nicht alles verstehen, denn du sprichst Englisch etwas schnell und verwendest auch seltenere Wörter. Ich habe verstanden, dass die Brücke über die Ems von einem Schiff zerstört wurde, das nicht genügend versichert war. Schweinerei, oder ? Eine zweigleisige Brücke halte ich auch für unnötig. Bei der Rheinbrücke Kehl (D) nach Straßburg (Strasbourg, F) war ein Neubau mit 2 Gleisen allerdings sinnvoll.

as a resident of Groningen (city & country) I find this a terrible disregard for the economic and social interests and I strongly urge the local, regional and national authorities on this: it cannot be the case that such a bridge in more than six years ago has still not been replaced, either by a tunnel or by a possible temporary bridge connection. You bastards, those politicians.

Hey, yoh can use a Dutch ov chip card for this but you can also buy a tickeg in the bus i guess.
Diesel trains that,s very old fashion and airpolution it,s third world traction !!!
Its too black and white to say this. Of course it's not the most eco-friendly way of traveling by train, however there are many different kinds of diesel trains. An electric train using coal powered electricity isn't anything better than a diesel train. And if you look at the energy that's needed for a train (in megawatts), a train is always more energy efficient than any other way of motorized transportation. Just look at numbers.
