That's not entirely correct on the crystal. Yes, this version of the Sumo has Hardlex, but the new version is Sapphire. However, the new Sumo's price is just ridiculous, as it's about twice the price. I agree that companies need to make money, and the new Sumo has an better movement and Sapphire crystal, but I feel it's just way more than what the upgrades should costs. Besides, I think people would be happier, if they just put a sapphire on the existing models, without the movement upgrade, and just pay $100 more for it.
WLVFX totally agree with you there on the Sumo. I own the sbdc033 and my favorite watch in my collection. Like you said throw in a sapphire crystal and leave the rest alone. I really don’t like the new Sumo too many changes to the watch , like they were trying to tame a wild beast and make it domestic lol 😂.

Thanks for the video Bruce but having owned (and worn) the blue Triton for some time now, I would like to add a few plus points that I really like about it: 1. 22mm lug width - if you don't care much for the original bracelet, then there is a whole plethora of alternative strap options out there to choose from. 2. The brushed/matte grain of the handset actually contrast very nicely with the polished markers/indices. 3. The lume is excellent, also I have noticed that the hands appear a shade brighter than the indices when viewing the dial in the dark, which adds to the readability. 4. The date window is at the 4 o'clock position, so we have a full and balanced dial. 5. The slightly recessed power reserve indicator is pure class and rare as hen's teeth on a dive watch, it seems. 6. SAPPHIRE crystal!. 7. The bezel/chapter ring/dial/indices and handset all align perfectly on the watch. 8. Value for money makes it a great buy for anyone that wants a true 200m Diver's watch that should last for years to come. Cheers!.
Last July, I bought my Triton with delivery from Hong Kong for $ 270 completely new and with an international guarantee. The most affordable sumo at that time were twice as expensive. I am more than happy. And if I wanted to spend more, I would buy Kamasu in a couple to the Triton.
Both are good watches, the Sumo is a legend but when I first saw the Triton I also fell in love with it, its superior caliber its design, its power indicator and its sapphire crystal. I have both and I love them both, I would say the calibers are very similar in terms of performance.

I got my Triton last week, and it is an impressive piece of stainless steel. Fit and finish are very good. The bracelet starts at 22mm, tapers down to 20 and has a substantial clasp with a diver's extension..It is, and looks smaller than my Sumo; so it might be a better choice for guys with smaller wrists. The Triton is a "dress diver"; looks great with a suit, or with jeans. On a scale of 10, the Triton is a 10. The Sumo is an 11.

I have no issues wearing my Orient Triton at all because of the included sapphire crystal.

You should have just reviewed the sumo because clearly in your opinion the sumo is better. The lack of crown guards on the sumo makes the Seiko look akward and cheap. If you combine the "X" with the Seiko brand name above the two occupy approximately the same area than the Orient logo. The crystal on the triton is better quality as well. I really think the two watches are so similar they are hard to compare.

I agree Tynan. Just a couple of years ago the Sumo was my aspirational watch. Two Sumos and a whole bunch of Seikos later, I now spend my time looking at Superoceans, Seamasters, Hydroconquests and Black Bays. Not only did I slip down the slope, I fell deep into the pit. I still own a Sumo though, and it's my all-time favorite Seiko diver.
This is a great comparison. I agree with you, the Sumo is the better watch but at the price the Turtle is a better comparison to the Triton. Thank you for another great video Bruce :)
Funny you mention Orients dial font and logo. Their logo has always been a turn-off for me. I don’t like the design and it clutters the dial to me. Great job on the production quality of your videos lately, keep up the great content. Thank you.
Hi Bruce 😊 I have, the Sumo Blue Coral and the Triton Blue Version and I agree with you, both are Great watches but to me Sumo is better and more beautiful, is more expensive too, but the feeling when I use both watches is different, it's hard to explain, but I feel the Sumo other watch, with other presence. A Big Hug 👍🏻
The Orient Triton/Neptune is a entry-level diver, where the Seiko Sumo is a midrange diver. A closer two to compair-contrast may have been a Seiko "Turtle" and the Orent, at that price point. The Sumo is about $200 more than the Orient. They are both great timepieces, respectively. The Orient must be a heck of a watch if your putting it in the ring with the Sumo.
I thought the Neptune had a power reserve indicator and the Triton does not? I don't think they changed the name, it's just two different model variants.
The hands on the Triton are too short imo, especially that minute hand not even reaching the minute markers. I’ve read somewhere that they borrowed the handset from the Mako USA. They didn’t even bother to design new handset appropriate for the size of the dial. You can clearly see the Sumo has larger hands. Also the right side on the dial of the Orient is way too cluttered. Wish they kept the date at 9, or the PR at 8.
I'd go with neither lol. I personally don't slightly Submariner-ish divers. I'd go with the Samurai (even with the meh mov't) if you want a Seiko or the Mako USA if you want to go Orient.
I've coveted both but handled neither in person. Coveted the Sumo much longer and all indicators suggest it's the nicer of the two watches (lack of a sapphire crystal be damned. It's not that big of a deal). It manages to look more refined yet more tool-ish at the same time. Both watches may eventually find their way into my collection, but probably a blue Sumo first.
To each his/her own - I prefer the Orient. Great video as always.
Much better value at the time.
For the cost...I have to give it to Orient....every time.
While I agree the Sumo is slightly nicer, the Orient is surely a better buy in my mind!

Sumo explained at 4:15, can’t speak for the triton
They both have applied markers although this wasn't mentioned in the video.
Good review Bruce, as usual. I prefer the Sumo. I own the Seiko Prospex SUMO SBDC033 Air Diver (BLUMO). The fit and finish is remarkable.
Hmmm so they changed from the son (Triton) to the father (Neptune - Roman Pantheon for Greek - Poseidon) any significance ya think?🤔
The same watch they change the name! Neptune sounds terrible!
Wish I cooks to back to the days of the sumo being my grail, use to be so innocent.
A slippery slope indeed
I agree Tynan. Just a couple of years ago the Sumo was my aspirational watch. Two Sumos and a whole bunch of Seikos later, I now spend my time looking at Superoceans, Seamasters, Hydroconquests and Black Bays. Not only did I slip down the slope, I fell deep into the pit. I still own a Sumo though, and it's my all-time favorite Seiko diver.
Yeaaah i have the triton. But i also love sumo especially the blumo
I have the Triton and I´m going for the new MM :)
Best channel for Seiko, No T rex dinosaurs please
Jajajaja
This is a great comparison. I agree with you, the Sumo is the better watch but at the price the Turtle is a better comparison to the Triton. Thank you for another great video Bruce :)
Thank you bro!
Por lejos me gusta más el triton aunque me gustaría aun más con el bisel y el armis del seiko
So I’m hoping to get a new sumo night series. How do you recommend that I go about getting my hands on one before they sale out?
Contact a store and pre-order. I would use japan-onlinestore.com or maybe topwatch in the phillipines
For me Orient is the winner
How close is the color of the Triton to the Sumo? Because that Sumo is striking in the video.
Triton much better value. Where are Seiko prices going?
Up and up
The second hand on your marine master looks orange. I know it's steel but in this video it looks orange.
The second hand on the new MM300 (and the 300) is a golden color.(I HATE it)
It's a gilt color that matches the 300m text
Orient is better
The Orient Triton/Neptune is a entry-level diver, where the Seiko Sumo is a midrange diver. A closer two to compair-contrast may have been a Seiko "Turtle" and the Orent, at that price point. The Sumo is about $200 more than the Orient. They are both great timepieces, respectively. The Orient must be a heck of a watch if your putting it in the ring with the Sumo.
The Triton is above the Sumo in every regard...
Seiko sucks they cant even get the bezel line up right with their watches.
I thought the Neptune had a power reserve indicator and the Triton does not? I don't think they changed the name, it's just two different model variants.
References?????
That old sumo is meh the new one is far nicer
Sumo for ever 😍
Seiko❤️
Seiko : no sapphire no party 😇
The hands on the Triton are too short imo, especially that minute hand not even reaching the minute markers. I’ve read somewhere that they borrowed the handset from the Mako USA. They didn’t even bother to design new handset appropriate for the size of the dial. You can clearly see the Sumo has larger hands. Also the right side on the dial of the Orient is way too cluttered. Wish they kept the date at 9, or the PR at 8.
Triton/Neptune
I'd go with neither lol. I personally don't slightly Submariner-ish divers. I'd go with the Samurai (even with the meh mov't) if you want a Seiko or the Mako USA if you want to go Orient.
Another is the glycine combat sub for 300-350.
To beat the Triton for build quality and value for money, I'd have to look at a micro-brand. Seiko becoming too expensive for me now sadly. atb snack.
Done at 1:01..! Hahaha 😉👍
Lol
Seiko for ever
Only the orient saturation diver is worth buying from entire orient offerings.
Triton has the same movement though at a lower price point and with Sapphire crystal, it can't be overlooked.
Seiko cost 3000 dollars more
Sumo of course
First
And fourth 😃
Third
